Is there a hint to getting the paper off of the tearable sticky tape, once it's applied? I try separating the paper of the tape from the sticky layer using tweezers, but often get the top layer of the paper tape instead. Aggravation! I'm thinking of going back to the red sticky tape and cutting instead. Thanks.
Don't have that tape (just the red double-sided tape) but with sticky stuff with paper or plastic backing, I use my Tim Holtz craft pick tool and it works great. The tip of that tool just seems to find the under edge of the plastic or paper! Sometimes you do get under edge of the sticky rather than the paper liner, but usually I can figure out where to place the tool so I just lift the paper.

That's what I do, too. I use my paper piercing tool to lift up the edge. I use that tool a lot for other stuff, not just poking holes, lol. I also use it to pick up self-stick gems from the backing sheet. They usually stick on the tip and I can then place them where I need to.
And my personal take is that it's easier to find the edge when you cut the tape rather than tear it. But that's probably my sense of order kicking in. I don't like ragged edges.

Wow, what brand of tear-able tape are you using? I hope not SU, because I just ordered a roll to try.
I've not had the problem you describe and I've been using this type of tape for years. Scor tape, Henko, and some brand out of Japan are some of the ones I have used. Sometimes I have to use a pic to get it started, but 99% of the time all it takes is a fingernail.
I just got a quick-stick tool and I use the other end of that to get the back of the tape off. I love it! But what others have said about making sure the tape is really stuck down is important to!

I had to laugh at this, because I would have added 'not just poking holes in me!' I love my poking tool or paper piercing tool, but I will inevitably poke myself at some point in the process when I use it
nanaverm - I don't use tape on a roll as much as I used to but a tip I used a lot when I did was to lift part of the edge before I placed the card/ embellishment in it's final location. Not sure if that makes sense?
For example I am matting and layering, I would put the tape with the paper still on it on the back of my layer, using my piercing tool I would lift the paper to start to come off the tape, I would fold the paper at a right angle so that it stuck out to the side, and then flip it over, make sure the layer was where I wanted it on the card, I could make any adjustments as the tape hadn't fully been stuck down, and once I was happy I would pull the tape out and then press down so that all the tape stuck down
