Default question about use of QuickStik

I am trying to use the QuickStik to set in place very small pearls. I am having problems getting the QuickStik to let go of pearl once it is in place. I have used this gadget to place larger gems and pearls but never ones this tiny. I am starting to think, I must have never used this nifty tool correctly. These pearls are the tiniest ones I have ever seem and work perfect on my card front, I am placing them in the center of images and I have 20 to do, for the front of my card.

Can anyone give me suggestions on how you get gems or pearls off the sticky end of this tool - especially very small pearls or like embellishments?
I have to glue each one down - so I was picking up the pearl with the stik, then placing a small amount of glue - then placing it in the centers- but I can't seem to get the pearl to release from the quickstik. So now I am doing it the long way by hand.

Any suggestions...
Please....

Thanks
Sheena

Sheena - try pulling out the pointy end of the Quickstick and using that (or the other end that's flat like a screwdriver) to hold the pearl down while you pull the Quickstick away.

And if you didn't realize that the pointy end pulled completely out and can be used as a separate tool, join the club. I can't tell you how many times I looked at it and thought "there's another end to this thing in there. . ." before I figured out that mine was just stuck in there good and tight and needed a little extra oomph to pull it out.

If you absolutely can't get yours loose, just use a piercing tool or an orange stick or a toothpick to hold the pearl down while you pull the sticky away.

OMG! I had NO idea that thing pulled out of there! I saw this thread and was ready to suggest using your piercing tool to hold the pearl down and release it from the Quickstik! I can't believe I didn't know that there was a whole other part to this tool! LOL *slapping forehead*

I LOVE my quickstick but have noticed with the last one I purchased that it will sometimes leave a little residue behind on my pearls or rhinestones and that doesn't make me happy!

Wow thanks for that tip on pulling out the pointed tip on the Quickstick. I really liked that tool, but love it even more now. That tiny point is wonderful for so many things. Have any of you ever changed the old stickum out of the tool and added new? Did you use the stick tac that you put pictures on the wall with???

Thanks, more hints and helps, please~~

I use my tweezers to hold the teensy things in place while I lift up on my Quickstik. Works like a charm!

i just use an orange stick or toothpick and moisten the end, like putting on nail gems.... maybe that would work for you?

Oh my goodness, I can't believe how many of you didn't know that there was a second part to that tool. I have had mine for a while and love, love, love them. I couldn't get along without it. I got mine from QVC before Lisa B left there. I think I got 4 of them as a set. I keep one on my work table and one in my tote that I take to crops and to stamping parties. I wish I had this tool several years ago when I was doing so much punchart that used really small punch pieces.
For those that don't have the tool, here is a tip I used when I was assembling all that punch art. I used a toothpick and the Tomboy glue in the green bottle. If you put a little of the glue on one tip of the toothpick and let it dry it will be tacky. It will pick up light weight pieces and use the tip of your tweezers or another toothpick to help hold things in place. Another tip with the toothpick is to stick the end with out the glue on it into a piece of floral oasis. I have a piece stuck in an old ashtray with red liner tape so that it won't come out and I have toothpicks, needles, hatpins, etc stuck in it so they are ready to use at a moments notice and always handy..........
Just a tip from an old scrapbooker turned stamper. LOL

I LOVE my QuickStik. i am one though that did not realize it for a bit when I first bought mine. One day it sort of "fell out" ! At first I thought Great I broke it but then was very excited to see it was meant to come out!!

I use mine for anything that is small and for stickers.

Default QuickStik

I have tried using this tool and for the life of me I can not "twist" anything. I can't make the sticky tack move at all. I feel like I have wasted my money on a tool that should be great.:(

I have never been able to get that pesky tool to work for me and I tried lots of times........,so frustrating, so I invested in a Crystal Katana and the Crystal Katana works perfectly for me and is so easy to use regardless of what I am picking up. I tried a few other solutions after the quickstik and they're ok, but the Crystal Katana is my favorite.
I had the opposite problem that you did with the quikstick....the sticky tack kept oozing out and I bought at least 2 quickstiks thinking maybe one was defective but both oozed.

Texsa-give it to the grandkids/kids They will get it to turn. Once done, it should be ok. The first time is the hard one.

I try to keep the least amt possible of the sticky out. Sometimes I smooth it with my finger if it is leaving residue.

You could use the orange stick-tap the quickstick for minimal transfer of sticky.

If you want a cheap alternative, try a bit of beeswax on a toothpick. Roll the wax between your fingers to soften it a bit, then stick it on the end of the toothpick. I got a little container of beeswax "dots" at a stamp/scrap expo years ago, but I've only used a couple of them - they last forever!

An even cheaper alternative is a clear resist wax crayon that you get in Easter egg decorating kits. It has just enough tackiness to pick up small items like sequins, and when you place the item on the glue, the item sticks perfectly. You can use a white crayon if you don't have a clear one, but the darker colors sometimes leave a little speck on the item. I had one of those Quick Stix, and I threw it away because the sticky stuff oozed out every time I twisted it even slightly. And that pointed end was lethal!

I didn't know you could pull out the other end! Learn more from this site just like I didn't know that Tombow had wide applicator on the bottom of the bottle until I read it on this site.

Another alternative is a golf tee with a little bit of Aleene's "Tack It Over and Over" on the sharp end of it....let it set up for a few minutes before using! My DH is a golfer and those golf tees come in handy for crafting too!!!

LOL, count me as another who never knew about that pointy end! I've always found that sticky stuff to ooze out, though, so mine just sits there unused.
