Default Prisma Oil Pastel Crayons or Neocolor II Watercolor Crayons

I want to purchase a set of crayons but can't decide which brand, Prisma Oil Pastel Crayons or the Caran d'Arch Neocolor II Watercolor Crayons. If you have either brand I would love to know how you like them and if you have both brands I would love to know which one is your favorite. Also, if you have a different brand that you recommend, please share the name. Thanks!

I'm no help - I have the ArtBars by Derwent I love them a LOT. I have heard great things about neocolor - If I were you and if you're near a store like Blick or Jerry's - I'd go try them out to see what you like! I've heard that blendability varies between brands.

Derwent is top notch - I love the triangular shape because they are really easy to hold when wet. I think you will like them.

Maybe check and see if Jenny at Craft Test Dummies has done a comparison or trial of either one? I know she has a video on Gelatos and that's another water-soluble crayon you might want to try. I love them! I also have Derwent Inktense blocks and they are wonderful as well, just different.

Oil pastels are a completely different breed. I use those with my grandkids for art projects where intense colors are needed. They blend together with each other, using your fingers to blend, but I can't imagine using them on cards. We use canvas or art board, sometimes Canson Mi-Tientes paper, for those.

Here's a google search page that shows finished oil pastel art.

And here's a fun time-lapse video of someone doing a bird with oil pastels.

If you are talking about Prismacolor NuPastels, they are an oil pastel...oil and wax based, in sticks, and while I haven't used that brand, they look to be used like the links I posted above.

If you are talking about Prismacolor Premier pencils, also a wax base, blendable with oils or a blending pencil, and for much finer, precision work, then that's another story. You would have to decide between oil/friction blending of wax-based color and water blending of water-based color.
