I totally love my hot knife too. Except I didn't have the sense to keep my fingers off the metal shaft after I turned it off. It is not an instant off, let me tell you. I soaked in ice water all evening and when I sent to bed the pain came back as though it had just happened. There is a mistake I won't be making again.
Did you see replacement blades where you bought yours? I got mine on ebay. Someone earlier said they use a #11 exacto blade, but I don't see how the blade that is on there comes off. I think I person has to get a new blade that is attached to a new screw-in piece. I wonder if she has something other than Walnut Hollow.

I did that too.. burnt my poor fingers. :( It was a good learning experience though because I sure haven't done that since.
I absolutely LOVE my hot knife. I wish I would have had this when I first started unmounting my stamps. (Or remounting to EZ Mount, that is.) I love how closely I can trim the rubber with my Kai scissors and then am able to zip around the foam and rubber with the knife. No sticky scissors to deal with.

Thanks for doing the detective work, Gale. I have that bookmarked for when I need refills. I have no idea how long to expect this blade to last.
I absolutely love that knife. I put 7 stamps on foam this a.m. in about 10 minutes. Even with charred digits, I do not want to have to do without this thing ever again. Have you come up with any other uses for it in the course of stamping or for other projects?

Carmellia,
Hope your "charred digits" are healing well. ;)
Since I also had unmounted my SU stamps, I found that using one of my empty plastic SU storage boxes that the stamps came in, is perfect for storing the hot knife after it cools.
Help! I get a strong rubber smell and it doesn't cut like butter...I must be doing something wrong! It gets really hot, and the blade sortof changes color, ...am I supposed to cut like a steak??
Good Morning Ladies,
I have a question , SHARIW, said she cleans her blade after every use. Please tell me how. Do you just wipe it off while still hot? That has been the only negative for me, I cant stand the gunk left on the blade when done. I tried scrapping it after it cooled but not so much luck.
Thanks for any suggestions this is a great little tool once you get a feel for holding and manipulating it.

I don't know how it is supposed to be done, but I wipe mine off with several thicknesses of paper towel after giving it just a few minute for the temp to fall below molten lava. If someone knows a better method I would like to hear it too. When it is still very hot, the gunk doesn't want to stick to the blade.

We use 4X fine steel wool to clean our blades. We turn it off, let it cool a bit and then clean with the blade away from your fingers so you don't cut yourself. I just transcribed this from my husband - typed while he talked! You can get this at any hardware store, i.e. Home Depot, Lowes, etc. Hope this helps.
