I always tell my non-stamping friends that this hobby is so relaxing--it's like coloring books and paper dolls for grown-ups. Now I can actually go back to using Crayolas! Can't wait to try this technique--maybe the laundry can wait till Monday.

After reading all the posts about coloring with crayons, I just had to go look up this famous artist, Don Marco, who creates the most amazing pictures, using ONLY Crayola crayons. Check out his beautiful work:
Absolutely breathtaking ~ It looks almost airbrushed or chalked, I would have never guess it was crayons. Beautiful talent!
And ITA on the big box - brings back the fondest memories. We could never afford it when I was growing up, but I buy it for my daughter's now and just love that they have the variety and make beautiful pictures! Their teachers only request a box of 24 and they show up with the jumbo 64! I live vicariously thru them, I suppose
Yet, another reason to have Crayola crayons around. My grown daughters think I'm crazy because I still like to color. I'm happy to see there are so many others who still love coloring books and crayons.
Is there more than one kind of Goo Gone? I bought some in a small can based on the recommendations in this thread, and I think it smells horrid! I used just a tiny bit on a paper towel, and the odor made me ill! I certainly wouldn't use it in place of odorless mineral spirits.
It also didn't work any better than alcohol to get rid of adhesive on my scissors.

What is it about crayons. I am with you. Love them. And you are all right nothing but CRAYOLA. Maybe we should do a field trip to the Crayola factory!!!!!!
Sign me up! I can remember watching Seasame Street as a kid and one of my favorite clips was when they showed how crayons are made in the crayon factory. I can still picture it.
OK, GooGone is now on my shopping list. I have two young kids so there are always plenty of crayons in my house-- last week we bought four boxes for .22 each at WalMart. Of course, those are just 24-size, not the big box.
Yes.... there are quite a few kinds of GooGone. The one I like and often recommend is GGP16; it has a citrusy smell and works well for removing gunk on scissors. The mfr. also has an "ink remover" which I tried, and that product's smell made me sick. It permeated my studio for days. I threw it out.
EvaC--love your card. So adorable, anyone would love to receive this in the mail. Thanks for trying this out and posting so that we could all be inspired to put those crayons to good use. I just might have to purchase a new box myself, because there is no better feeling than a new box of crayolas.
I have always had a big box of crayons in my house, and I am...well, let's just say "over 30" LOL I am always attracted to colors like that--I love the towel section at stores tee hee
Not to steal from your thunder, but here is another thread on this...I thought I thought of it (does that make sense) but found out Jessica Knutsen had already done it, too...this thread has an example image (not a whole card) if you're interested. I think I used baby oil, and I loved it. Forums at Splitcoaststampers

BTW, I have a box of 120 crayons...Nanee nanee booboo LOL

Be sure to check your container- eg, I had in my cupboard (for cleaning away something, I can't remember what-) GooGone GG12C. It has a big old Danger Poison label. Even though I don't plan on consuming any, I think I will not use that particular one for closeup and personal art work- particularly as I would be spending some time colouring in items, thus breathing in fumes. Just because it smells nice, doesn't mean it's not dangerous!
I don't know about the other Goo-Gone products, this is the only one I have in the house. It shows on the front, using it for removal of crayon from walls. The qualities that do this would be what makes it work as a medium to move the crayon colours and blend them, I'm sure.
Ventilation would probably be another issue to watch for.
So be sure to choose the right one!

HAHA..hafta laugh....no thunder stolen here!!! I knew I could not have been the first one to think of this....as I said in my original post...I live under arock   Oh and the teddy bear is very cute!!
I just checked the GGP16 spray bottle, and it says "non-toxic" on the back, so I guess that puts it in the safe arena. Sometimes, too much of the smell gets to me, but generally, it's kept sealed and I can tolerate the citrus smell pretty well when I do need it.
I didn't see it mentioned in this thread, but you can get goo-gone in a "pencil" at WalMart. It's in the cleaning supply aisle; in my Wal-Mart, it's on the top shelf and surrounded by other stuff. You have to really look for it.
I can't remember who originally talked about the goo-gone pencil, but it defintely was someone here at SCS.
When I was a kid, the best thing in the world was a BIG box of brand, new crayons *and* a huge pack of paper....I remember finding a huge pack of paper at a flea market once for a quarter and feeling like I'd struck gold!
:p wow Ladies after my own heart
i love to colour with crayons..i have a huge colouring book
since i was a little girl many years back i would spend the whole summer at the lake colouring for hours ....still love to do it now:mrgreen:
now i will have to try it with goo-gone
But doesn't goo gone reek like lighter fluid? Isn't that what it essentially is? Then does your project smell? How did you apply the goo gone with the crayons?
Erin
There is/was another product just like Goo Gone called Goof Off. Goof Off definitely smelled "like lighter fluid;" it must be what you're thinking of. Goo Gone smells (at least to me) like oranges. Also, to help avoid confusion, Goof Off comes in a metal can, Goo Gone in plastic.
Not an expert - just happen to have both under my kitchen sink - must have had sticky project at one time, huh? ;)
wow! coloring with crayons on cards! that's great, it's like a mix of what we loved to do as a kid, with our grown up passion for crafting! I might have to get that BIG box of crayons at mike's tonight with a coupon! that don marco guy is really talented! i never knew you could do that with crayon!
Crayons are cool, but I'm a crayon snob. My crayon of choice of Crayola. My dd is 18 and she asked for a new box of crayons this past Christmas. We had so much fun sitting on the floor coloring during the Christmas break.
In 6 weeks she heads off to college. May have to buy her a new box and a few coloring books as a care package from home. Hmmm.....

*chuckle* I'm thinking of doing the same for my daguther (now 19), for the same; she LOVES herself a new box o' Crayolas!

I have found the blending stumps at Michaels and at Hobby Lobby. They are probably available online, too.

Has anyone tried using crayons to color and then putting the paper over a hot plate to melt the crayon/wax. This post made me think of that when my son did an art project at the local library a few months ago and the picture came out looking like stained glass. Wondering if you could use this on a card somehow?? I might have to play with this when I find the time.....
I love crayons too and have never attempted to do the Goo Gone technique.
Might need to steal my sons crayons and play with them a little!
I love a big new box of crayons too ( : Ahhhhh, the smell!!
Me too! my girls are 15, and 13, and we still color like little kids in coloring books!!! ha! And I love new crayolas! it has to be crayola, no substitutes allowed! Right now it is back to school time so I stock up on little boxes of 24 crayons, .20 each! I am in heaven!

Slight hijack... You've just given me a GREAT idea for gifts for my nieces and nephew (ages 13, 15, 17, 19, 19)! Crayons and coloring books! I always give them money and a little gift. I'll still give them money, but also the other too. Just reading this thread brought back so many wonderful memories of getting a new box of crayons! They all know I'm the "fun" auntie, so they will get a kick out of this. Thanks Janet!
Great thread! (even though I kind of deviated)

went to walmart and got me that exciting box of 64ct crayolas (with the built in sharpener, woo hoo!), it was 2.88 here. I tried it out really quick on something that was embossed in black, with the goo gone pen, and the embossing smeared away! What is the best ink to use? Is it like the same as when you use prismas or copics? I think someone said memento something?
i didn't try mine with stazon, but i did try the regular classic ink pad, colored in the image with crayon then did the goo gone with a stump. i did sand the tip each time i switched to a new color. keep trying, i am really sold on this technique.
i am not sure what your asking, but yeah, the classic ink will work with crayon and goo gone, i would not use the stazon ink and then try to color in with crayon. hope that helps.
Here is a video tutorial from Gina K. on the OMS with the colored pencils. I used the same concept only I used crayons and googone
Thanks so much this is the best tutorial I have seen for this "concept". TFS
