My husband tells me I live under a rock...I tell him that I would be less stressed under a rock and laugh at him....but I think he might be right....
So I tried this GooGone with prisma color pencils...you know...substituting OMS with GooGone to get the "Magic Pencil" look.
I was at a store today and had to make myself walk away from the box of 96 crayons...my kid is in Jr. High so I dont need them...but it did remind me of all those times growing up that I tried to convince my mom I needed the BIG box of crayolas....
Anyway....I started thinking about thos crayons tonight and I remember my bottle of googone said that it removes crayon....I had the biggest AHHH HAAAA moment....
yep...you can use your crayons and the goo gone to color..the goo gone will take away color if not careful BUT you can also use it to blend the color into the paper to get rid of the "white" behind the color and if you work it you can blend colors together...just becareful not to use too much crayon as the top layer of wax will come right off.....
so then I get the water color paints out of my daughters old school supplies....take out my watercolor brush and VIOLA!!!
How cool is that...OK I know I can't be the first person to figure this out!!!
PS...I am going back for that BIG box of Crayola's tomorrow....I love all those colors and the sharp points!!!
How fun!! I've been trying to figure out what to do with that bottle of stuff!! I'll have to give it a try!!
Also, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who LOVES the smell of a brand new box of crayons...I've been known to actually open the box in the store just to get a fix of that smell...

But doesn't goo gone reek like lighter fluid? Isn't that what it essentially is? Then does your project smell? How did you apply the goo gone with the crayons?
Goo gone does not smell like lighter fluid--it's not a petroleum product. I've only used it once and I don't recall it even having a smell and if it did, it was not offensive.
goo gone usually has a slight citrus smell..i notice it when i am first doing a project and slightly until it dries..i have a card i did about 2 weeks ago and i don't smell the goo gone at all on it.
can't wait to try to crayons and goo gone!!!

GooGone is great stuff you can clean the sticky off of your scissors or glue spots off your work area. I think it is like all natural. I have never used it in paper crafting before but I will have to give it a try. You can buy it in about any retail store like Wal-mart or Target.
Crayons are cool, but I'm a crayon snob. My crayon of choice of Crayola.
My dd is 18 and she asked for a new box of crayons this past Christmas. We had so much fun sitting on the floor coloring during the Christmas break.
In 6 weeks she heads off to college. May have to buy her a new box and a few coloring books as a care package from home. Hmmm.....

At the Walmart stores around here, it is located in the paint department, with the paint and stain removal chemicals that are used for refinishing furniture or cleaning up after painting. The Goo Gone label doesn't specify the ingredients, but does specify that it is harmful or fatal if swallowed, and that it is combustible. It is a laundry pre-wash stain removal; the label lists items it will remove such as: stickers, make-up (i.e. lipstick), oil, wet paint, scuff marks, shoe polish, tree sap, asphalt, candle wax, tape, glue, grease, crayon marks, gummy mess. I use it to clean my scissors when they get adhesive buildup. For stubborn adhesive, I spray it on and let it set while doing something else, then come back later and wipe it off with a cotton ball or paper towel. I've also used it for removing price tags from books or other gift items. Works every time. I'm looking forward to trying this method of blending crayons! I've always wanted a box of 96 Crayola Crayons!
I colored in books and free hand on computer paper clear up through high school. Then I graduated, went off to college, got married and forgot all about it. Thanks for the memories. I may have to buy a big box of crayons next time I go to Walmart and also look for a cute coloring book. I think it would be a great way to relax, and create without being creative.
Oh, I love a brand new box of colors and a coloring book to go along with it. There's just something about sitting there coloring in a book when I get in my non creative moments.
Oh I just love this! I've been coloring with my pencils for the past few nights and remembering just how much fun it is! My almost-twenty-year-old daughter told me "Mom, you're so weird!" but then got HER art supplies out of storage and started doing it herself! I'm going to Wal Mart just as soon as I get off work and get that big old box of 96 Crayola crayons! My 10 y/o niece will love it! I bought Goo Gone yesterday and love the effects with my pencils. Can't wait to try crayons!! Thanks for sharing this idea!
I love to color and have always wanted to get one of those big boxes with 96 colors!!! When my sister's kids were little, we would sit and color while they played with other things--made it look like we got the colors and books out for the kids--LOL!
I love a big new box of crayons too ( : Ahhhhh, the smell!!
ME TOO! When I was a kid my FAVORITE gift in the whole wide world was a brand new box of 64 Crayola Crayons - you know, the one with silver, gold and copper and a sharpened built into the box?

I miss those days...
I just came back from Mikes - I just bought that exact one!! LOL!!!!
OK, now I don't feel so bad. I still have my box of 64 Crayola's I had as a child. The price is printed on the top -- $1.19. It is stored in my pencil box from the 3rd grade along with some other crayons. That would have been 1973!!! Boy do I feel old now!!
You think you feel old? I remember when Crayola crayons had a different formula and they were much more vibrant and blended much easier. They just aren't the same now. That said, every fall when it is time for school to start I get the uncontrollable urge to buy some new crayons! ;)
After reading all the posts about coloring with crayons, I just had to go look up this famous artist, Don Marco, who creates the most amazing pictures, using ONLY Crayola crayons. Check out his beautiful work:

WOW...that is amazing stuff!!! I was kinda feeling a little cheezie at suggesting that us as "artist" use crayons as a coloring medium.....and now...I wish I could do what Don Marco can do with a crayon....better get to practicing!!
I have my new box of 96 waiting to be used...I even put them into color families today at work!!

Too cute, Eva!!! I confess, the very first thing I do is arrange colors with anything I buy. I couldn't hardly stand it, trying to get home fast and safely, to dump my Prismacolor pencils out to rearrange them.
I didn't have *alone* time when I worked. I would take new finds with me to oggle and play with on break. Some were amazed and started bringing their finds to share. Still, others thought we were all nuts! We just laughed AT them. I never got the BIG BOX of Crayola when I was little. Really stunk when my cousin got a new box every Sept. I've played w/ the smaller boxes I buy for my wlddle DGS's. They're gettin' older so its time to buy them and me a mega box.. count them.. thats 2 BOXES! ;)
Luv this thread, thanks Eva! May God bless, Sandi

Ok...so here is a card using the crayons and goo gone....Don is my new hero and I am going to have to practice more but it's not bad for the first one! Sherbert Cupcake by EvaC at Splitcoaststampers
Oh and did you know that there are color names like "macaroni and cheese" now??? I am sure I will find more interesting ones as I play more.

Nice card Eva! I would have never thought to use the crayons and goo gone. I identified with your original post... I was at Target with my teenage daughter and saw a box of 120 crayons. I wanted it soooo bad!!! All I could think of was opening that box and taking a deep breath while my nose was buried inside of it.
Enjoy your crayons and keep making great cards!

I feel kinda silly asking this because it's probably a no-brainer but...can someone walk me through how to do this technique please?
This is just like the "magic pencil" technique...or like using oderless meneral spirits and coloring/blending stumps. You color with the crayons ( i start with light shades and work to dark) and then use a stump with googone on it (moving in a circular motion) to move you color out and blend your colors together. Does that make any sense? I am sure there is a good link or tutorial...I will try to find and then post
What is it about crayons. I am with you. Love them. And you are all right nothing but CRAYOLA. Maybe we should do a field trip to the Crayola factory!!!!!!

All this Crayon talk, I knew I had a box somewhere so I dug it out. It's a box of 96 which was running a contest for the 90th birthday of Crayolo. Name the 16 new colors and win $3,700 in prizes including an all expense paid trip to HOLLYWOOD universal Studios. I must have been saving for something because not one crayon is used. . .Until now!!!!
