Newbie question: What is a blog hop?... or card hop?
I'm trying to figure out what a blog or card hop is... also what is a virtual stamping night? Just how does that work exactly? Sorry for the dumb question but I've been looking around and trying to figure out how these things work..... How do you get involved and what are some of the popular ones?? Thanks!!
Hi Tiffany! A blog hop would usually be where a group of people (like a Design Team or a group of friends) all put up blog posts on a certain theme at an agreed time and put up links to each other's blogs when they make their own post. People visiting one blog can see that other people are creating to the same theme or for the same challenge or whatever and can "hop" to see those posts, too.
Virtual Stamp Nights are the online equivalent of getting together with a bunch of buddies and stamping for the evening. The ones here at SCS revolve around a set of challenges that everybody does alongside each other and uploads to the gallery.
One more beginner question! =)
On so many blogs and on your signature, for instance, I see... "I design for ... so and so".
Does that mean you help them create stamp designs? Or does that mean you make creations with their stamps?
And how does one get to do that?
Thanks!
Lots of companies have a Design Team - DT members create samples, often when new stamps are released. Getting on a DT can be a matter of applying to a call (there's a special forum here at SCS where you'll find current open calls) or sometimes people get invited on the strength of what's on display on their gallery or blog. Some places have "Guest Designers" as well as their regular team. A guest slot would typically be for a limited period (often a month) and it's a great way to get some experience of designing "on demand" IYSWIM. Again, keep an eye open for calls and competitions - a guest slot is sometimes offered to the winner of a comp. I was invited when I did a guest slot for Crafty Secrets (I won a competition of theirs and although it wasn't explicit that was the reason I got asked, I suspect it might have had something to do with it!) and I applied to an open call for my current DT position.
If it's something you think you'd like to do, it's worth searching the forum for info - the topic comes up quite often and there's lots of good advice around on what to expect and how to go about it.
Well, blurphing, that's what I figure it means "surfing blogs" - I'm too embarrassed to ask.............
As far as all this hopping...........are there poodle skirts, pony tails and white socks involved? Just askin'...........not that I (still) have any of those in my closet (ever since Mom had the Yard Sale)..........
