Okay, so next week I'm going to order the custom set of 36 Ciaos at CopicmarkerS.com! I've never used them before and don't think I'm great at coloring. I was way impressed the turtorial at KiyomiKrafts blog about using one of the really light shades as a blender pen with the darker colors. So I'm going to order the lighter ones (B00, BG01, BV00...) and I'm stuck on which of the darker shades to pick to go with them for some of the families. Does anyone else use this methody when coloring? What colors do you love and why (hair, skin, leaves, flowers, shading...)??? TIA!
Have you had a look at this blog? It's a fountain of info, and I know it's been helpful for a lot of people. Good luck with your selection process, and enjoy the coloring process. I don't have much experience with it either, but it sure is nice to have good tools to work (and play) with!
I started buying individuals of colors I loved, comparing the SU/Copic color charts so I knew what I was getting into, and then building up from those with shades of the same colors.
I am glad I read comparison charts and looked at sites like ilikemarkers or I would have ordered colors that were WAY OFF in real life.
www.oozak.com has the best prices on individual copics with free shipping over $50!

I have checked that site, that seems very advanced for me! I like videos! I think after awhile I will go to that site more and understand it a little bit better.

I do not know that much about copics but I just thought I might throw in my 2 cents worth.
Have you looked at the oozak.com site for price comparison? I have never ordered from them but it seems that a LOT of people here on SCS think the prices there are the greatest. They have been saying that the service is very good, too.
Just a thought. Good luck learning the copic stuff. I'm trying to learn now, too. I only just got a Primary color set of 12.
I did check that site, and I want to be able to pick my own colors, and the shipping is way cheap at copicmarkers site. It breaks down to just under $3 per marker with them.
I'd encourage you to take a look at that. I also have a link to access their search feature, which I'll send on when I find it. The thing I like about the site is that if you want to scroll through the entries, you can see the flags for the beginners and ignore the rest.

But Ciaos are only $2.63 at oozak with free shipping over $50.
If you are just starting out, you shouldn't have too much trouble with the out of stock colors.

Oh boy, she has a great site, and now I'm getting confused! Better keep reading!
It is very helpful to start at the beginning of that blog and read each post in order! I spent two late (2am) nights reading the whole blog....it was SO WORTH IT!!

E0000 + E00 for pale skin tones (add a bit of E02 for people with a tan). I use R00 or R11 for rosy cheeks
B91, B93 & B95 are my favorite blues, kind of a mellow blue with some gray in it. Very good for jeans too.
E31, E33, E35 & E37 for light to medium brown hair. I add E47 if I want really dark brown hair. These are nice for animal fur or wood too.
YR21 + YR23 are my favorite golden yellows
Y38 is good for bird beaks
R29, R27, R22, & R20 make a good Christmas red or strawberry red
G21 is my favorite green. I blend it with G28, and want to get G24 for better blending. I also like it with G94(my other favorite green)
R81, R83, & R85 are my favorite rose pinks.
BG000 + blender is what I use to give shadows on snowmen
I use a color chart to track what colors I have and also to be able to see what they actually look like. You can see it on my blog if you are interested in seeing what the colors I just listed look like (keeping in mind that different monitors make colors look different).
Oh I love that chart! Where did you print that from??? And thanks so much for the colors and what you use them for. That helps alot as I am picking what to order.

I love her blog! I have been trying to achieve the effect she gets with the light and darker colors and I can blend really well the other way. I am having a heck of a time achieving good results with KiyomiKrafts way. I think it must be very advanced. I can't get the blending going well with it all. I keep hoping she will do more tutorials and help us out. If you are just starting I would go with three similar colors in each color family and blend that way. Just saying.
I got this off SCS...so thanks to whoever did it first! I can't take credit.
For the colors I have...NOT ALL...the only one of these I found to be 'off' is Blue Bayou....BG09 is more like Taken with Teal but darker and more muted. And after holding the YG63 on paper to the CS...Wasabi is a match but Sage Shadow is not.
Hope this helps!

When I was just starting out, I loved seeing actual color swatches on blogs. It really helped me decided what I needed. The color chart on the copic website doesn't seem very accurate in comparison.

I use a few of the printable items here including a similar chart for coloring in. I also use the wheel so I can see which colors are so close I don't need to buy them both.

I ordered a set of 72 Copic Ciao markers (Set A) from oozak.com the other day. They listed Set B as out of stock, so I emailed them to find out when they expected that set to be in. Initially they told me "about a month" but then they had a brainstorm and called me later that afternoon, offering to make a Set B from the open stock Ciao markers they had. They had the extra case for it as well as the "sleeve" ... only thing missing is the shrink-wrapping on the case. As a result, they shipped both sets the same day. Needless to say I can't wait to see my UPS driver this coming week--and I'll have a long weekend to start using them! The customer service at oozak is first-rate and they shipped the same day. Would definitely recommend them; their prices are very good -- lowest prices for Copics I found on the internet. HTH
