Thank you so much for bringing this to Spellbinders attention!!
We are looking into the situation and will begin testing dies immediately. For now, we suggest you wash off any residue that could be on your dies with a mild soap (dish soap in water) to see if that helps. As soon as we have information for you, we'll post to this thread.
Thanks so much for checking in! We'll look forward to hearing what you find!
I've had this problem since I got them... and the more I use them, the more the coating comes off... some of them don't cut in certain spots where lots of the coating has come off... I love them, BUT I wish they didn't do this... it's frustrating!
I've had my Nesties for while but really used them a lot this weekend and found my circles were flaking off onto my cardstock. Like many others I thought I was doing something wrong for this to happen. I'm subscribing to see what the response is from Spellbinders.

One die from my large oval nestabilities set was leaving residue on my cardstock after cutting. I had only used it a handful of times. Then I noticed that the cutting edge was jagged and not cutting smoothly. I called Spellbinders and was told to send the die to them and they would replace it. After I sent that die, I found this was happening on another die in the same set. I e-mailed them asking if I should send that die to them also and they said they received the first die I sent, it looks like a manufacturing problem and they would replace the entire large oval nestabilities set and no need to send in the second die. Only problem is, Spellbinders is still waiting for the Nestabilities to arrive so I have to wait. I'm looking forward to receiving them and hopefully won't have the same problem. I'll keep tabs on this thread.
Oh dear, I just ordered my first set and sure don't like the idea of cleaning off each scallop. Will be watching here for a solution. thanks to the OP for bringing this up.
Thanks everyone for replying to this thread! Now I can rest assured it is just not me. I seem to notice it more on my plain rectangles and ovals...not so much on the scallops. I just got the squares but haven't used them. Will have to go and try them. And, yes, it does show up more on the white and cream papers...I use SU! GP, Neenah, Bazzil...doesn't seem to matter which paper. But, I always hate having to sand my edges to clean them! I'll be watching her for Spellbinders reply.
I find it most noticable when I'm cutting vellum, the one I use is quite a good weight so not flimsy. I've not experienced any flaking, yet, but then I've not had my sets very long and I only have three little sets so far - scallop and plain ovals and a scallop circle set. I've been inking the edges and using darker papers so the marks dont show! I'll be interested in what happens next .. .. even over here in the UK!
Wow -- I just used mine for the first time this past weekend. I only have the large and small rectangle and scallops, but that is a lot of money to have this happen. It is hard to believe that with so many people having this problem, that it would not have been caught in the testing phase of the product.
Well, I hate to say I'm a follower and copycat, but my Nesties are doing the same thing with all kinds of different cardstock. When embossing, my tan mat has tons of little flakes stuck to it, as well.
I just noticed "dirty" edges with mine today. I think I know what is causing it. I use mine with a cuttlebug. If you look at your cutting plate- the one with all of the cutting marks in it, you'll notice the marks are colored if you cut with colored papers. There are little amounts of embedded paper in the cuts. I think the marks on the edges of the cardstock are where the paper met up with a previous cut mark.
So to solve this problem, you could have one plate for white or very light CS and another for darker ones.
When I noticed the marks this morning, I just assumed it was cardstock from previous cuts. I recently cut a lot of black scallops, and that's the color on my edges.
That's what I think is causing my "dirty" edge problem. I have not had a problem with the copper coming off the dies.
Oh whew.... I thought it was just me! I have had the yucky dark edges on my papers, and some copper flaking off my dies too. Wondering what we need to do - I'm in TX with some very heavy humidity going on this summer.
I have them too, but it seems to happen only with the newest set. Perhaps they've changed something in the manufacturing process. Thanks for this thread.
This is Stacey, I own Spellbinders.... I would like to reassure everyone watching this post that I truly appreiciate your input with this issue and we are currently in contact with our factory to determine which shipment that the dies in question came from. I am sure all of you understand that after producing tens of thousands of dies, that this is an isolated incident, which we will get to the bottom of. Rest assured, Spellbinders always has and always will stand behind the quality of the products we produce.
A few posters refered to how we were unable to catch this in QC? Actually, our dies go thru QC at the factory.... overseas, we do some spot checks here in the states, however this type of "dirty edge" issue has never happened during our any of our onsite spot checks for the dies. As soon as I hear back from our factory, we will be in contact to let everyone know what is happening. From what I have determined so far, as a "Quick" fix you can wash your dies edges with dish liquid and a toothbrush to clean them before use. Thank you all for your patience and understanding. SCS are the BEST!
I have only had this problem once on my large circle nestie, but I figured it was the plate I was using. It had a lot of markings/cuts from other uses so I just switched plates, started with clean ones and have had no problems since. BTW I use the Big Kick and have cut several papers with no further problems. I am subscribing just to see what happens.
Great thread! This happens to my nesties, too. I love them, though, and just deal with the dirty edges because I don't think that my card recipient would even notice.
It's a great product andI love mine!! I'll be interested to see what Spellbinders finds.
I've had this happen with mine too, particularly my ovals set. Also in that set there is at least one die that doesn't cut fully through the cardstock in one little area. I have to cut it by hand. Now I'm wondering if I should try and get a replacement die. Hmmm...
I have had the problem too. I still love them. I take my adhesive remover rubber thing from SU and rub it around the edges of the cs and it seems to get it off. It is harder to get off the scallop edges though.
My dies have always done this. I just kind of figured it was part of using them. I just lightly sand the cardstock to get rid of it. My circles are the worst. I would never give them up, though. I love them and use them on almost every card!

Subscribing... definitely interested as I just received a bunch of Nestabilities and the daisy heads die. Is anyone having this problem with any other Spellbinder's dies?
Wow! Subbing to follow the whole issue. Just got my first set of nesties today and haven't gotten to use them yet. When I take them out of the package I'll wash them as suggested and see how it goes.

I think this theory might be right. I used to have issues with dirty edges, but since I changed my cuttlebug 'sandwich' I haven't had the problem. When cutting with my nesties, I put the A plate down first, then my dirty B plate, then my cardstock image facing UP, then the nestie cut side DOWN, then the C plate. This way, if any dirty marks get on the paper it is on the back side.
I use this sandwich because I am able to see exactly where I am cutting around the image. It makes sense though, that the dirtiness is coming from our 'colorful' B plates. I hope this works for others, let us know!
