Is the tan polymer mat close to same thickness as the little foam pieces that are found in the childrens craft depts. They come in all colors.
Daisy
It may be or pretty close. But it's very dense and can be run through the Wizard without losing its shape or flattening. I think the craft foam would probably flatten if ran through. An interestly experiment!
When I tried fun foam to use the brass embossing stencils it wasnt firm enough. It was too squishy, and wouldnt push the paper through the stencil. I use plumbers gasket. But I havent tried either with the Nesties yet 'cause I dont have any- yet!

Jerry - you are right, it will flatten. Actually you can cut out the fun foam and emboss it with the dies!
A fun to do with fun foam is this...
Using Spellbinders dies cut AND emboss a die. Using double stick tape, put the die on an acrylic block. Ink it up and start stampin! You've just made a disposable stamp to match your die! It's fun to stamp backgrounds with them and then use the dies with paper to make matching embellishments.

Oh my gosh Kim, you are so clever! Thanks a million for sharing this. I often wish I had stamps that matched my dies and never thought to do this. Ingenious!
I actually used this technique with my Christmas cards this year! I wanted the word "JOY" but didn't want to cut out all those letters (80 cards) and so I cut the letters J-O-Y using my Spellbinders Indulgence font.....I wanted a flat look so I didn't emboss....attached to an acrylic block then stamped all the cards! Super simple!
One of my favorite dies to use this technique with is the Harvest 2 leaves die, all the veins in the leaves really pop after stamping on the embossed fun foam, it makes a gorgous fall card!
The emboss in the fun foam tends to go away after time, but I use them as a disposeable stamp. I've been told if you heat the fun foam with a heat gun the emboss will stay....I've never taken the time to try heating the foam.

Sorry I didn't respond earlier!! I've been off line for a couple of days.
I haven't got any scans or pics of my cards but I'd be happy to do so. I'll post when I get a chance to take the pictures.......I'm heavy into finishing them right now........
When you get a chance, I would LOVE to see that- the foam letters!
Thanks to you ladies- I did join Cut at home, I purchased the oval nestabilities last month plus a tan mat- it was on backorder and I just rec'd them. I just ordered the rectangle set with the December coupon code....Santa is going to bring them to me! Wow- their customer service is awesome!!!
I appreciate all of the tips everyone has offered- i just LOVE SCS and all of the people on this site are so helpful and wonderfully talented!

Go ahead...you can say it...We're all a buncha enablers!;)
you all have been so helpful. I finally ordered my first set a couple weeks before Thanksgiving and have been using them like crazy.
Of course they are addicitive and I now have all of the ovals, circles, rectangles and now the hearts. UGH!
So my new question is:
How do you all store these dies?? I've looked around my house to see what I have in place already and I really cant come up with anything.
I just got my first sets of nesties this week - scalloped ovals & rectangles. I had a roll of magnet sheets with adhesive on the back. I cut pieces to fit on the bottom & lid of an old clamshell box & store them that way.
These things are a blast and a fabulous value! I can't wait to have a block of time to play with them!

Hi! I have a question...I am wanting to make "ornament" cards and have used my cirlce nesties to cut them out, putting the top of the circle up above the fold so that it doesn't make 2, but every time it embosses a faint line. Is that because the cardstock is double? Is there a way that I can avoid the embossed line? Hope that makes sense and TIA!!
It's a little cloth bag filled with powdery stuff. It takes the static off of your cardstock so embossing powder will only stay on the ink. SU calls it the embossing buddy, TAC calls it the X-Static. It probably goes by other names in other places.

This is definitelyl the spot to find answers to our questions....so, can one of you guide me to a good tutorial for using nestablities?
I have one set and love then but I'm sure there are things to be done with them that I don't know about......yet.
thanks

Go back and look through previous answers
Frequently other people have asked the same questions and you will learn alot from the previous posts. Papertryink have fantastic tutorials on using Nestabilities especially in the Cuttlebug. They also sell Nestabilities. www.papertryink.com
Go to Nichole Heady's blog (you can get it through Papertrey's website) and go to her spellbinders FAQ (listed on the left side of her blog) and see if you can get it that way.:p

I finally got my nesties and decided to try it. Well it has not been as easy to do in the cuttlebug as it seemed. After going thru many recipes and changing this and that and alot of cardstock and scretching the heck out of the plates I finally got one cut!! Then I tried to emboss it. Well I finally got the stacking right, (btw I dont have the tan mat, been trying thin fun foam) and it embossed but its not really a good deep emboss. I got a card in a swap, that is where I first saw a rectangle cut with a nestabilite and it really had a nice deep emboss on it. Im guessing it was probably done with a Wizard. So I decided to try and emboss it with a stylus by hand. Well, THAT is how its suppose to look, but I sure dont want to have to do that everytime :( Might have to buy a Wizard, really didnt want to have to do that tho. Anyone have any better luck with a deeper emboss with another less expensive machine then the Wizard???
Some folks have mentioned spritzing the paper with water before embossing. I haven't tried that yet. I've noticed from my limited experience that the depth of the emboss depends on the paper. Thinner paper will give a deeper emboss because it has more "give".

I really think you need to try the tan embossing pad before you give up on your Bug. Fun foam compresses too easily, and it will be difficult to get the same effect.
thatgirlthere, I'm thinking that before you try an entire new machine, you should try the tan embossing mat or plumbers gasket. The fun foam is just too squishy to push the paper into the die. Try something with a little more resistance and you might be happier with the results.
You know, the Spellbinders DT uses the Spellbinders dies and cut the thin fun foam and then embossed the details into the fun foam and made stamps. Just place a little double stick tape on the backside of the embossed fun foam die cut and mount that to you acrylic blocks and stamp away.
Just another thought.

Yup keep trying. I now use tan and blackmats.....or plumbers gasket.
It seems that every machine likes it own way just to make us work for the great detail.

G'day Joan and others
I am not sure why you have come to this conclusion, but I have now received my first set (both plain & scalloped circles). I have have only the cuttlebug and I have had NO problems with using the nestabilities in it. I use the recommended matting recipes with the general exception that place 2 card layers and therefore cut 2 cards at the same time. Admittedly I do not have the tan mat for embossing and I haven't tried to do that yet even with another substitute.
I am so happy with it and I ordered 2 more sets and the tan mat which are on their merry way to these Australian shores. I do have the Coluzzles which I have been happy with until now. I may or may not give them to my daughters. Time will tell.
Next will be some border stamps etc to specifically go with my nesties. Yippee!!!:-D
