Default Nestabilites - Cut & Emboss

Hi. I'm currently in the process of purchasing my first set of nesties, and I was curious about the embossing. When you cut with the dies, do they automatically emboss the shape at the same time? If not, do you need the polymer mat from Spellbinders to emboss the cut out?

Thanks!

I have a CB..and no it does not emboss on the first pass, you do need to run it through a second time with the mat or plumber's gasket OR use the sandwich that does both at once:

A plate
2-3 sheets of cs( I use two pieces of cereal box) for a shim
C plate
Die Face up
CS to emboss.stamp
B plate

OR if you want to make sure you center everything just right:

A plate
Shims
B plate
CS
Die face down
C plate

I do that last one if my image is already pre stamped to make sure it gets centered.

Overall, I rarely emboss though. looks nice enough, just don't ever go out of my way to remember the shims

Question Cut and emboss Nesties in a Big Shot/Big Kick?

How do you cut and emboss in one pass in the Big Shot or Big Kick?

Does the magnetic placement pad help with this, or is it necessary?

Alice, I haven't tried the magnetic placement mat yet but I am going to try a magnet sheet today that I found in my scrap drawer. But with the BS/BK, you can use the crease pad and that will cut and emboss in one pass. I usually run it twice though, I turn the handle so the plate rolls away from me, then I roll it back towards me, and I get a nice emboss with that.

You use tab 2 on the Multi Purpose Platform (MPP), cutting pad, die blade up, cardstock face down, crease pad, roll through machine.

I can see how the magnetic mat would be a big help to keep the dies still though. I've heard good things about them.

Alicia over in the Big Shot FAQ thread is awesome about answering all my questions (even the strange ones that I seem to have, LOL), so if you need more help, ask here or ask over there and I'm sure someone here on SCS will know the answer. HTH and Happy New Year!

I saw on a blog somewhere that if you use he Sizzix Crease Pad, it will cut and emboss at the same time. I have the crease pad but have not opened it yet to try.

Here's the blog I found this on. This is using the Cuttlebug but the pad is made for the sizzix. Hope that helps.

Thanks. I order the 12x12 tan spellbinders embossing mat. From what I've found online, I think I'll need it with the BigKick. I'm anxious to hear what Nikki's luck is with the magnetic sheet.
