Hi there! I was looking to see if anyone has used or is currently using Neenah Classic Crest paper 110lb?
I recently purchased and went through a ream of the Neenah Classic Crest 80#, and while I really did love it (super smooth, great quality)...I still found it not sturdy enough for an actual card base for me. I think I tend to be pretty particular about the card base. lol
The 80 is great for card fronts and cutting on my silhouette and stuff, but I am still looking for something sturdier but smooth enough to print on and feed through my printer as well for those "layer free" cards.
I do use and LOVE PTI cardstock, but I find myself "over ordering" just to get free shipping, so I am trying to find a spot where I can get a big ream of white cardstock.
Any info you have on the 110lb would be great? Is is close to and very similar to the 80lb Neenah? Is there a big difference?
As stated earlier in another thread...give the Recollections #110lb a try from Michaels.
I too love PTI and do the samething as you...order to get free shipping. I have since started getting the Recollection brand and love it! I promise you won't be sorry. Great for card bases and for figure die cutting as well. They have cream and white in 110lb. $12.99 for 100 sheets. I use a 40 or 50 % off coupon to get it.
equals out to about 7 cents a sheet. That is not bad for 2 card bases.
I get the black, red and kraft too. It is .69 cents a sheet when they can keep it in. I get all the red everytime I go for Christmas cards.
I use the Neenah Classic Crest 110 lb paper and love it. It is super sturdy, heavier than Papertrey, which I also use for layering. For those of you who have tried the Recollections 110 lb. paper, is it more comparable to Papertrey paper in weight or to Neenah Classic Crest 110 lb.?
The Neenah Crest 110lb and Michael's 110 lb are identical weights. Both are 298 gsm. (GSM is a standard weight across all types of cardstock, so it doesn't matter if a company call it cover, card or index weight, you can compare the thickness)
I recently discovered the 110 # Recollections paper (through my friend Sue) and bought it with a coupon-of course. I have previously used Stardream paper which is expensive and requires a trip to a paper store in the city and then you see all kinds of paper that you cannot possibly live without and end up leaving spending $100.00,or more. But, back to the Recollections paper. I costs 12.99 for 100 sheets and of course, we'd always use coupon. I used it for all my Christmas cards and have told all my stamping friends about it. Thanks, Sue. Bobbi
Just a little info on paper...
110 pound paper...that's the weight of (usually) 500 sheets of uncut paper. Problem? Papers are made in different sizes, so 110 pound of 22x28 inch paper is "thinner" than 110 pounds of 18x22 paper. 110 pounds is called the basis weight of the paper.
298 gsm paper...that's the weight of one sheet of paper that is one meter square. 298 gsm is called the grammage of the paper. Obviously, this gives a more accurate comparison than the basis weight above.
However...not all 110 pound papers are the same. Neither are all 298 gsm (even though there is less variation with gsm than with pounds).
Why?
Because different papers are compressed to different thicknesses when they are rolled through the rollers. Thus one has more air than another. BUT the more they are compressed the LESS stiff they are. That's why the SU white and vanilla papers, which are rolled very tightly to get the smooth, non-porous surface, feel and act much "floppier" than the colored papers, which are not rolled as firmly. They have the same basis weights.
For example.
I have 110 pound Neenah Classic Crest. It's THICK.
I have 110 pound Georgia Pacific. It is much thinner and floppier. Very similar to, maybe a bit thinner, SU's 80 pound white and vanilla
I have 80 pound Neenah Classic Crest. It is thicker than SU's 80 pound white, but I don't use it for card bases.
I hope that is clearer than mud and helps to explain paper variations. ;)
Yes, paper weights are confusing. When I first went to a paper store to get some heavy base weight paper, the clerk asked if I wanted index or cover stock. I said I didn't know. She showed me index first, and it was not heavy, or stiff, like I wanted. Then she showed me the cover stock, and it was much stiffer. That's when I bought my first package of Neenah Classic Crest 110 lb paper. Love it! Anyway, the index and cover stocks were both 110 lb., but so different. I also have some Georgia Pacific 110 lb. paper, and it's very "floppy", so maybe it's index stock. That's why I asked about the Recollections 110 lb. paper. Weights are misleading. Thanks for the explanation, Diane.
So...Here's some different papers that all measure .009-.0095 inches thick, and the size of their uncut paper.
Tag stock (24x38 ) 125 pound
Index stock (26.5x30.5) 110 pound
Vellum Bristol Cover stock (22.5x28.5) 67 pound
Cover stock with no coating (20x28 ) 65 pound
Cover stock with glossy coating (20x28 ) 100 pound
To put it another way, the approximate equivalents to 110 pound cover stock are 136 pound vellum bristol, 165 pound index, or 183 pound tag.
I read, but don't really understand #10. All I can say is that the paper from Recollections is not floppy. It is stiff and perfect for card bases. My friend Sue , who knows all about the technical side of paper, says that the recollections paper is exactly like Neenah Crest. I know I love it. You can ever use it for copics. It will bleed through a little, so not good for 1 layer cards. Give it a try. You'll love it to. Bobbi
