Default metal embossing stencils?

I just got a metal embossing stencil that you use with a light box and craft knife. How many of you use these? What weight of paper do you use ? Card stock like SU is tough to cut .

you don't use a craft knife with a light box unless it is a glass one and you actually want to cut the image.
most use the light box and brass stencils for dry embossing, and you will need a stylus instead of the knife.

here are some videos, i tried to find a tutorial in the resource section but there isn't one that i can see.

Oh my goodness ! I worded that question poorly LOL

I know you use a stylus for the embossing with the light box and then I am cutting out some of the shapes in the stencil with a craft knife .

I am using SU CS and I wondered if I should be using a lighter weight paper. I need to apply quite a bit of pressure on the knife to cut through the paper

Thanks I will check out the tutorial

Some people have embossed vellum and then attached it (with brads or vellum adhesive) to colored cardstock for a lovely effect. Srapbooking paper or lightweight cardstock might also be good alternatives to heavier cardstock.

I have done parchment craft for years and that is done on vellum. The parchment craft embossing on vellum is quite different. It is not done with a stencil and has the effect of painting by embossing.

I was just wondering if people who use these brass stencils use a lighter weight CS or heavier weight paper like 40# paper.
Thanks
