I had the Scor-Pal and liked it enough. But I sold it and bought the MS board. I like the fact that it has a score every 1/8" instead of the confusing Scor-Pal. People have complained that the tool has jumped out of the score line but that's never happened to me. I say it's a great deal at $10!!
jmscoping....If you are looking for a scoring board then I would say open it and use it (you saved yourself a shipping charge). If you really feel you would not use a scoring board, then return it.
I have 4 different scoring boards and my first choice is the Scor-Pal (my first purchase). Scor-Pal website is a wealth of information and tutorials for all kinds of items. My least is the Scor-It and the purple ones.
The Martha Stewart one is good if you need all the itty-bitty measurements. Personally I can get the same measurements using the Scor-Pal.
I feel which ever one you have keep it if you'll use it. You'll get used to it.
I have the Scor-Pal, and it has been my one and only scoring tool. I love it too! I saw the Martha Stewart version at Michaels, and like you, I bought it with a 40% coupon. I am using it now, and I would say for convenience sake, I prefer Martha Stewart because of the intervals of each score line. I am happy with the scores as well. And the triangle tool to help make envelopes is a plus too. But that doesn't mean I don't like my Scor-Pal anymore. I'm still keeping it, and it can be handy when I have card making parties at home.
My vote is for the MS board. I had a Scor-Pal for a long time, and it worked just fine, BUT if you wanted to score something other than basic cards and simple boxes, you have to move your paper and do all the math and lining up. Math is not my forte.
I LOVE the MS score board because you can make any measurement and score anywhere you want without having to figure it out and do the math. You don't have to move the paper. It's fantastic!!! I've never had any trouble with the tool jumping the track unless I was going too fast or not paying attention. But that happened on my Scor-Pal as well. I do find the score tool for the MS board uncomfortable, so I use a regular bone folder (actually Martha Stewart's pink one), and it works GREAT! It suits me better anyway, because I went through several score tools from my Scor-Pal.. they just wore out at the tip.
Nothing against the Scor-Pal-- it served me well until something better suited to me came out (and something cheaper).

pros and cons of it versus scor-pal? or any of the other scoring systems...
i was just about to order the scor-pal but saw this at michaels and had a 50% off coupon so i got it for $10.
i haven't opened it yet because i wanted to make sure this was something i'd actually use and would like.
i was sold on getting the scor-pal but i'm also for the instant gratification of having this already in my little hands for $10... :p
thanks!
Reason I went with Martha's was because one long side does not have a edge...you can place paper wider (or longer) than 12" on the board and it will be flat. The Scor-Pal has edges on both long sides.
MS!!! I love it for the envelope template. I love it for the 1/8" score lines. I've kept my Scor-Pal, and the scoring tool is sturdier than the MS one. But I use a different score tool/bone folder so I'm very happy.

I also have the MS and the Scor-Pal and I love both. I love all the score lines on Martha's, but I have had to use a different bone folder. I use her pink blingy bone folder and I absolutely LOVE it! Definitely well worth the 10 bucks I paid for this product...
I had the Scor-Pal and bought the MS also with a coupon. I sold my Scor-Pal. I love all the lines on the MS and the fact that you don't have to move your paper!

I totally agree! I don't like the scoring tool the MS one came with so I bought the pink blingy one and it works great! I like the envelope template too. I still use my Scor-Pal alot though, I find I get abit better scors with it for some reason. More deep without ripping the cardstock.
I also have the Scor-It and never use it. Waste of money that one was!
The jist of my story, I'm super glad I have both the Scor-Pal and the MS Scorboard. Both have their uses.
Forgive me if this comes across as redundant as I haven't taken time to read all the responses. But I bought a MS with a 50% coupon and I love it. I've used the Scor-Pal at a friend's & I actually think the MS is a better tool. The scoring seemed to be "deeper" for lack of a better word. I also love it that the grooves are closer together.
Another vote for the MS score board...my only con is the scoring tool it comes with is cheap. I made 30 card kits for a shoebox swap and the tool was flimsy and the plastic was coming off in little shreds. I just bought a sturdier MS scoring tool and it fits in the compartment...problem solved for short money.
My 2 cents' worth -- I have a Scor-Pal and a Scor-It. The Scor-Pal is good for doing multiple score lines on a piece without moving the paper. The Scor-It is the best for doing single scorelines on very heavy cardstock, like Gina K Designs heavy base-weight. I don't have Martha's board, because my grown-up DS is certain that she is scary.

Rock is dead. Long live paper and scissors!
When you need a scoring tool to use and the one that comes with the Scor-Pal is worn out - use a dry embossing round tip tool.
You can also use an empty ball point pen for a scoring tool. (Cheap).
That is my 2 cents worth!
Enjoy it - now, I need to go get a MS score board. They are on sale right now at Michaels for 25% off so, maybe I will wait until I can use a 40% off coupon?
i have a scorpal but had to use a 40% coupon a few weeks ago at Mikes....bought the MS score tool.....i returned it. it was flimsy, the tool was not sturdy and when i tried a regular scoring tool with it, it went thru the cardstock. i thought the multiple lines were not as helpful as i thought they would be. but i do love martha anyway
individual preferences rule.....so it is nice to have all three scoring tools as options
I watched a video tutorial on making envelopes with you MS scoring tool, and I am excited..... so easy to make your own nice looking envelopes. I love how the tool has all your measurements written on there for you!
Count me in as someone who loves her MS scoring tool board. The tool doesn't even bother me. It's thinner than I thought it would be, but it sure does score! I was torn between the Scor-Pal and the MS scoring board. It came down to which was available to satisfy my I-want-it-now syndrome. Plus I had a 40 percent coupon. I've had it for almost a year and I won't give it back. Ha!
