I looked around but I didnt see a thread on the color Crayola is retiring from the 24 pack...it is Dandilion. I dont know if they named the replacement yet-I cant find it online.
Do your kids care? Do you?
Anyone know what color they would want to replace it in the 24 box?
The current colors: Red, Yellow, Blue, Brown, Orange, Green, Violet, Black, Carnation Pink, Yellow Orange, Blue Green, Red Violet, Red Orange, Yellow Green, Blue Violet, White, Violet Red, (Dandilion), Cerulean, Apricot, Scarlet, Green Yellow, Indigo and Grey.
We were discussing the change in crayons yesterday and DD, at age 15, wondered how she was going to draw and color the sun without Dandelion.

I found the list of colors and their intro dates/end dates interesting. My favorite colors were Midnight Blue, Blue Green, and Raw Umber. Although Magenta was at least in my top 20

Magenta was ALWAYS the one I reached for first growing up! Fun times...
Robert Fulghum (one of my fave authors) wrote an essay on crayons. Here are two quotes from it:
"We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright, some have weird names, but they all have learned to live together in the same box."
"Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed we would launch one. It would explode high in the air - explode softly - and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth - boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn't go cheap, either - not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination."
Nice walk down memory lane...when crayons were our most important coloring tool....
What a cool idea Sue-thanks for sharing that quote. Made me think of the Brainy site-I could stay on there all day reading. I checked and they have em:
Sue, I love those quotes, especially the second one as it sounds like something we're doing where I live. It's a county-wide thing, although it has already spread to other counties and states. We're painting and hiding rocks. When someone finds one, they post a pic on the FB group page, then hide the rock again. People of all ages are taking part from kids on up. Our McDonalds has taken up the challenge and is having a rock painting day - all you need to bring is your rock and your imagination. And Pizza Hut is setting up something similar.
It is fantastic seeing all the great artwork and inspirational messages being posted. Proof positive that one person can make a difference.
Sorry for the hi-jack!

Wow, you learn something new everyday!! And I thought they were "just crayons for kids".....that Wikipedia page is fascinating (I'm now searching through the kid's colouring boxes for Crayolas!!!!!:smile::smile::smile::smile::smile:
So looking at the history list, I see there are no greys? I have 2 in my collection "gray" ( and I KNOW I bought this box way after 195 and "timber wolf" (which doesn't even show up on the list). Hmmm. Where did I get this box?
