Default Inking embossing folders

I am having trouble applying ink to embossing folders for my big kick. If i apply ink directly to the folder with a patting motion, i get blotchy results. If i swipe it on, i get streaks across the embossed image. Should i use a brayer or something else to apply ink? Suggestions?

Not sure which folder you're using, but I have used the brayer and also the sponge daubers to add ink to my folders with success. HTH

I get the same results and have been thinking it's a technique similar to watercoloring in that the outcome is fairly unpredictable. I prize that on other peoples' cards but on my own it looks to me like a mess.

You can ink the folder with Versamark or any embossing ink first, then add colored ink. Different inks give different coverage with folders (just like stamps).

I use a brayer and have little trouble getting great results. I ink both directions, across and vertically then remove any stray ink with a Qtip.

Another tip is that, when you're rolling your folder through your machine, do it slowly. Allow all the ink to soak into the cardstock. I get better results that way.

Same for me and I use a very light touch with the brayer and it might take a few times to get complete coverage.

Do you put it on the 'dip' side, or the protruding side?

Try using ink on each side separately. You get different results. Some I like, some I don't! I love to ink the folders.

Thanks for your suggestions. I didnt have much luck with the brayer, but may have to work on getting a light touch. I have tried both sides of the folder with abt same results. I have darice folders &also tim holtz. Was using distress inks, thought that might be the problem, but no better when i used a regular die ink. Frustrating! Havent tried the versamark yet. Thx

Try pigment or chalk ink - it's thicker or the new SU foam ink pads

I also like using pigment of chalk ink. And try applying it with a brayer for nice, even results!

The brick embossing folder is from Darice Brick Wall.

Gingered - how did you make those flowers "pop". And have a texture? Did you emboss them too?

The flowers are ones that I've had forever! They are textured like that already. They came in the bottles. The prima? maybe....I don't recall the name of them. I put them on with glue dots.
