Hi everyone,
I was watching a craft video today and the woman was using a hot glue gun that was shaped more like a heat tool than a traditional glue gun. I have never seen that before. I tried searching the internet, but of course only traditional glue guns popped up. I figured someone on here must know where to get this type of hot glue device. Any ideas?
Thanks!
I have one and it's amazing - but I had to get it from a friend in the UK - for some reason it's not available in the US. Or wasn't when I looked a year ago.
PS Felixdog I changed your link to the Bosch link - that other site was set up just to provide an affiliate link that doesn't even work.
Lydia,
I assume the Bosch glue pen come with a plug that will not work here in the US? Do you just use a simple adapter so that you can plug it into our outlets or does it need some type of converter to change the voltage?

It says it charges with a micro USB charger. I'm not technical at all so I don't know if that is universal, or if it varies by country like other electrical things, but there's that...
Micro USB is standard. It's what my camera uses, and my Kindle. You can get a micro USB on one end and a regular US type plug on the other, or a micro USB on one end and a standard USB on the other. Either one can plug into the wall here.
i ordered one from Amazon UK and it was about $45. It was just as easy as ordering from US Amazon. It took about a week to "cross the pond" It came with a charger that is useless to me that has a europlug on one end and a micro USB on the other end. But, Diane (fionna51) is correct and I found I had a couple of microUSB cords around the house. I never knew those were called micro USBs!
It came with a few glue sticks that are about 7mm diameter. They are ever-so-slightly larger than the mini glue sticks I already have but they don't seem to work any differently. I don't think the temp rating of the glue stick matters but I can't say for sure because I don't know what kind of mini glue sticks I have. I will say the Bosch glue pen gets VERY and the glue seems to take a while to cool and set....that is similar to my high temp hot glue gun. My smaller glue guns, that use the mini glue sticks that I tested in the Bosch pen, don't get the glue as hot as the glue pen. Clear as mud?
I think I read somewhere that the Bosch glue pen is not supposed to drip glue when not being used. That has not been my experience, although, the dripping does not seem to happen as often or as much as with my glue guns. One thing I love is there is much less stringing of the glue. Still a tiny bit of string but not at all like the stringy glue mess from my glue guns. The opening where the glue comes out of the Bosch is much smaller than on my glue pens so perhaps that is the reason why there is less dripping and stringing. The glue comes out in a smaller stream so I think that may be helpful at times. I will keep my larger, high-temp glue gun in case I ever need to use a larger volume of hot glue outside of Papercrafting.
I also LOVE that the glue pen is cordless. It's said the lithium ion battery holds a charge long enough to use six of the 150mm glue sticks or about 30 mins. It automatically shuts off after 10 mins to save the charge and that happened once when I was working with it. I could tell it turned off because the glue was becoming more difficult to get out. It was not a big deal because the glue gun heats up quickly. Also worth noting, you cannot use the glue pen while it is charging. Because it is a lithium ion battery, though, it's okay to charge it in small increments without shortening the rechargeable battery's life span.
I'm sorry this post was so wordy. I hope I can be helpful to anyone interested in the glue pen.
