Hello everyone!
Can anyone tell me where I can find help in color coordination? I have trouble figuring out what colors go together.
I see cards made with colors I would not have matched together and they look great! I'm wondering if there is a method to choosing or does everyone but me have an artistic eye for these things?! LOL
For starters, you could check out the color challenge thread. There is a new color combination every week, and some of them I would have never thought to put together. There is a master list of all the past challenges, so you can look at that to get ideas, too.
You can also look at a color wheel or SU!'s color coach. They both have ideas for color combinations for what mood you are trying to convey.
Or you can just go by what looks good to you. I am always holding up scraps of paper together to try to figure out what colors I want to use. There really is no right or wrong.
Here's a fun online color wheel to play with. Click anywhere on the big wheel and then select what type of color scheme you want (monochromatic, complementary, etc.) and it gives you a big swatch with the results. These are not specific to any manufacturer's colors, so it might be more helpful if you're trying to match items from various sources.
I have a very casual attitude toward color. I try colors that I think will look good and will please me....if I don't like the result, well, it's just paper. They'll make more.
Last week I made some cards using River Rock, Elegant Eggplant, and white--and they looked great. That's a combo I wasn't sure was going to work, but I tried it anyway.
i had surgery on my eyes over the past 2 uears for cataracts .they did new lens implants and
before the surgery i had certain color tones i could not tell what they were.blues, blacks, reds
were all impossible for me so i had to get help every time i did a card.since the surgery i have
a little limitations but at this point it doesnt seem to be much as i can now see items on the color wheel, the best advice that helped me when i couldnt see the colors was ask yourself this "does
it make you feel comfortable when looking at it?"every time it made me uncomfortable there
would be a clash of colors that i couldnt see.but when i was comfortable looking at it,then it
usually was good.

I struggle with color combos too. It seems like I generally stick to the same "safe" color schemes for all of my cards. I just discovered this website Color Combos Galore (Color Combos Galore). They have new color combinations every week and they also provide an picture for you to draw inspiration from. I find that it provides a great starting point for me.
