Have any Slice owners received their replacement card?
I can't wait until the first person posts and lets us know how it works!! I e-mailed MM last week, just to ease my mind about whether or not we were really going to get one or not. Yes, we are!! I even wrote on my calendar to start watching my mail at the end of April. The waiting is killing me!! After I get my machine re-callibrated I plan on buying a 2nd card. I have waited all of this time to get another font, and I can't wait!!!
Count me in on that as well. I won't buy anymore carts until I get that fix, and I am hoping the fix gets to me by the end of this month.
Like my Slice, have been very disappointed in the way that MM has handled complaints about this machine.

Still waiting on my replacement of the Basics 1 card. I called MM very early on - probably one of the first to do so after registering my Slice. I suppose it will show up one day, but in the meantime I too am holding off on buying any of the new design cards.
What is this Replacement card you are talking about?
Making Memories is sending all registered Slice owners a new Basic Shapes 1 card. It will have instructions with it, and it will recallibrate your machine to make it work better. Not just on the Basic Shapes card, but on all of your cards. I think you can register your slice online. Try whyslice.com. There is also a phone number on there where you can call them.
Thanks I will hae to do that. I did just get my free cardfor those who bought theirs at a certain place you got a rebate for a free sampler card. I did receive that a couple of weeks again but I will have to make sure I register mine so that I can this this replacement card also. I have not used it but a couple of times so far.

I received mine on Monday. There is a great improvement on cuts after calibrating but there are still a few bugs. While script letters and scrolly shapes cut out beautifully some of the more geometric shapes and Block letters are a bit skewed. The larger the size the more accurate the cut though.
mmmmm I hope I get mine soon, how are the circles? They were not too good before. Looking forward to getting my replacement card...sigh

The one inch circle is just a bit off on the left side but the 2 inch looks perfect. I haven't cut all the sizes to do a full comparison but considering how awful the smaller shapes and letters were before, I am a very happy camper!!
I have a question! I got mine today by the way.
So it did its cuts like it should: 1234, abcd. My question is - are we suppose to tell it which is more uniform? I thought after reading the directions it sort of implied that we would tell it which cut was best on our own personal machine.
So, what happened to you all after it did its calibrated cuts?
After you choose which 1234 is best and which abcd is best you need to press the Menu button until you are at the first screen where you have to choose between Basics1 or Settings. Choose Settings then press the Right Double Arrow button until it says "Radial Backlash Compensation". If the number shown is the same as what you have chosen then fine. If not then hit the Single Arrow Button until the number that is right for you is shown then press the Right Double Arrow button again and it will say Rotational Backlash Compensation. Press the Single Arrow Button until the letter that is right for you is shown. Then press the Menu button until you are back to the first screen where you choose between the card or Settings. Now you are ready to test all the designs from all of your cards that have given you trouble.
Well...now what? I went back to finish the 1234 abcd and the machine won't turn on. I have it plugged in and nothing. When I put the card in it beeps at me.
Guess I will contact mm.
Another snag.....grrrrr.....I registered my slice when I bought it and it says it is registered but when I try and submit an issue it says my slice has not been registered. So I go to register and guess what? it IS registered.
I should have just let it be. Now i have nothing. ha ha grrrrr
Let it charge for a while, then try again. Even better if you let it charge overnight and then give it a try. I had the same issue with the registered thing. I was trying to enter an online issue with the Just Chillin cartridge (it's a known issue). I just called the toll free number and they took care of me right away. I'm obviously registered as I received my calibration card today.
I got my MM replacement/calibration card today. Recalibrated the Slice and it works great. I didn't have too much of a problem with it prior, but it does actually make them better, so I am happy.
BE SURE to follow the instructions around to the BACK of the calibration manual. I almost didn't realize it was there. There are 18 steps in all.
What I am a little surprise at is that they sent the cartridge in one of the little plastic cases in a regular envelope. The little plastic case was destroyed when I got it. That case is the one I'll be sending back with a note with my old cartridge to let them know it didn't fare well in its travels.

I got mine a week ago. I run the calibration program and cut few shapes. It is still not 100% perfect especially for small shapes and with 90degree angles.
Where did you guys hear about this 'calibration business' I know I'm registered but I haven't heard anything or received anything. Can sombody give me the scoop?
I registered my machine when I first purchased it...do I need to do anything to get the replacement cartridge or are they sending it to all that are registered? Thanks!

I got mine today, and hurried through the 18 steps and tried a few cuts. I think I need to do it again, and go slower. I didn't see much difference. :(
I'll let you know what I think after I do it again, though!
I did it (recalibration process) twice and the 1 1/2 and 2 inch circles still didn't cut well. I called MM and they said this is all they have to offer right now :S They implied that mine was the first feedback they've gotten that wasn't positive re: recalibration??!!
I did it again, and it is better. You really have to take the time to make sure you are choosing the straightest line and the best curve, which I don't think I did yesterday. It is still not PERFECT, but I'm VERY happy with this fix. The 1" circle is as close to perfect as I would want it to be!
I will say that I don't think that the Slice cuts scallops very good at all. Of course, I didn't cut larger than a 1" on that today, but I don't expect a huge improvement there. Anybody notice a big improvement on their scallop circles or squares? I don't care about that, though. I love my scallop punches. It cuts my letters perfectly, and that's my favorite part!
My 1 inch circles weren't the best after calibration but I use my punches for small circles. I also use my Spellbinders dies for scalloped circles, squares etc. so that isn't all that critical. The scallops on the Slice tend to lean over and they are more like ruffles in the smaller sizes. What I am happy about is that letters, scrolls, flowers etc. are now cutting so much better that I can actually use them. I used my Slice to cut masks so I could make my own background paper and had a blast! I put my experiments up on my blog. I wish they had some farm designs so I could use the same technique to make paper for my Rooster stamps.
I registered my machine on line when I first got it and haven't heard anything from MM. Do I have to do anything else?
No, you don't have to do anything else. I called to 'make sure' I was registered, because I sent in the card. I didn't realize we could register online. Anyway, she told me I WAS registered, and didn't need to do anything else. And my card came yesterday!
My card came today! However, my Slice is all packed away (moving overseas in about a week and a half), so it'll be about 2 weeks before I can actually try it out. I'm just glad it got here before we left!
how do you tell which curve is the best? Mine all look the same, just at different levels of curviness.
Here's a tip:
if your Slice is still off after you calibrate, go back and "tweak" the settings (numbers, letters) even if they DON'T match the test calibration until the Slice works better. I do that with my photo printers to get the color right. Often I have to choose the "not perfect" setting in order to get (what I consider) perfection.

Okay, I got my new cartidge, started the calibration but my blade was dull. I inserted a new blade but now it only cuts the ABCDE part of the calibration program, not the 12345 lines. Tried it 4 times and it did the same things all 4 times. Went to the adjustments and tried each one, not knowing how they actually came out. Well, the flower that I tried looked better but when I went to try a star with holes, it wouldn't cut the holes. Did the same thing with a small label. Did the star again and it cut ONE hole! HELP!! Did I put in the blade wrong?? Is there a trick to make the blade come down for every cut?? SOOOOO frustrated!! I've been such a backer of this little cutter but now, not so much!!

sounds like you need to charge it up.

I had that same thing happen to me awhile back, and that's actually why I sent it in for 'repair.' All they did was take the blade out and put it back in. Tested it, and all was well. My mistake was following the directions. Yes,you heard me! The directions say that if it stops cutting the paper (like the inside of a letter, or the inside of your star) to screw in the blade all the way, but loosen it 1/4 turn until it works. I screwed it all the way in, turned it a quarter of a turn, tried it. Nothing. So, then I did 1/4 turn and tried it again and again until the blade fell OUT. Now, I've learned screw it all the way in, and then try a cut BEFORE you unscrew it 1/4 turn. I don't know why it works, but I've done that several times since I got it back. It IS frustrating, and I honestly wanted to throw my little Slice out the window the first time I happened to me. While my Slice was out for repair, I bought the Cricut, and discovered it can be just as frustrating at times. So now I'm more forgiving of my little Slice!
Good luck!

Yep, mine got to the point where the blade wouldn't even come down to the paper at all. Tried all kinds of things like recharging, restarting, homing the blade, loosening the blade 1/4 turn, changing the blade, etc. - all over a period of several weeks (and customer service was no help). In the end the only thing that worked was to take the little blue "hex wrench" and TIGHTENING up the whole blade unit. Now it works just fine. HTH!

Exactly! And it completely contradicts what they TELL you to do, but that's what worked for me. Tightening it instead of loosening it. Wait...are you talking about the entire thing that cases the blade? I didn't even know that could be tightened.
....running off to check, now!

I'm probably saying it wrong, (brain fog going on here, lol) but I guess what I meant was I originally thought the blade itself (small orange part) wasn't in correctly, so I kept trying to fiddle with that part using the included pliers. Then I tried doing the "loosen by 1/4 turn" thing with the hex wrench. It wasn't until I used the hex wrench to TIGHTEN the light blue octagonal part that holds the orange blade (but is still inside the cylidrical part) that it fixed it. Clear as mud? (I'm confusing myself as I type!)
I think we're saying the same thing - loosening it by 1/4 turns seems to mess it up, while tightening it fixes it.
Thanks for the info!! Haven't had a chance to try it yet but hope that works. And Erin, thank you SO much for the comment about the Cricut!! I so toyed with the idea of getting one since I never read about any problems but couldn't justifiy the price, especially of the cartridges. So now I feel better about my little Slice!! Just want it to make ALL the cuts, not just the ones it feels like making :-)

Ok, yep! We're saying the same thing. You had me worried there for a minute!

I'm glad that helped you. The day I was so frustrated with my Slice (the day I decided to send it in to have them look at it) I was at my monthly crop, so all of my friends were there. I said, "Maybe I should just get a Cricut!" and one of my friends said, "Oh, the Cricut has glitches of it's own. Dont' get it because you think it won't cause you any frustration." She seemed very frustrated with her Cricut when she said the, too. I only ended up buying one because it was so cheap. I'm glad I did, because I now have an extra font to play around with, but I still prefer my Slice, and can't wait to get another design card!
Nope, just went to try it again and it makes the motion of making all the cuts but then, when it's done, it still is missing some cuts. Wah!!! It's like the blade isn't coming down on those certain cuts. It's not low on battery as it's plugged in. Has anybody else had this problem!!
But for the record, even with a few cuts missing, like the holes on button shapes, it is cutting WAY better than it was!! The one inch sizes look great!!
