Has anybody else decided to live a Cuttlebug-less life?
Has anyone else decided to buck the Cuttlebug trend and go without? I have been tempted but the more I think about it, I think I can do without it. Once you figure in the cost of the appliance and then all the folders, I think it is a pretty costly deal. I'd rather spend my money on the other things I covet such as stamp sets, ink, and card stock. I just thought I'd ask because I feel like I'm the only one that feels this way. Enablers need not respond. :p
Fellow Cuttlebug-less Floridian here. I'm an SU demo on a tight budget and I just can't put money out for something I can't justify as a business expense. I do love the embossed look, but I can get that look other ways.
I am Cuttlebug-less also and will stay that way too. I don't have the money to buy one nor all the different folders I would want to go with it. I agree, it can be costly. I have a limited budget for stamping and will save my money for stamps, papers, and ink. You're not the only one!

No, you are not alone. I simply do not like the cards using all the cut-outs. They just look too busy to my simple eye. In addition, I feel that a hand-stamped and hand colored card with a loving thought and a bit of ribbon is much more personal. In addition, is it even possible to mail these creations...and...if so, how much will it cost with the new postal rates going up?

I don't have one either... i think i'll try to do the rolling pin method that some are doing. You buy the embossing folder and then emboss by rolling a pin over it.... worth a try!

First..she didn't say she didn't like the look, she just said she wasn't buying one. I think "alot" of the cards I've seen in the gallery using the dies are great! I have the embossing folders and don't use them as much as I should...mainly because I keep forgetting that I have them. I have so much stuff that I don't know what I have.
As far as the postage goes...I haven't seen a problem...I recieve alot of cards using the dies and they get through the mail syastem just fine.
Their cards are still hand stamped and hand colored as you say...just embellished !
I respect your opinon if you don't want to buy one because of income or your personal preference ,frankly I like one layer simple cards, but alot of very talented people here have some great cards using the CB.

I've seen some beautiful cards and layouts made with the Cuttlebug...but I too can't see myself investing that much in one machine. I am planning on treating myself to a Big Kick when I reach my goal weight and lose these last 9 pounds (Yeah! it was 10 pounds).
And I thought I was the only one!!! Not that I don't love everything I've seen made with it, cause I do! I just try to keep things to a minimum in my stamp area, and also wondered if I would truly use it enough to make it worth it. In my opinion, it is affordable (I have a lot of coupon stores in my area, so I could get everything with at least a 40% coupon), but then again, how many affordable tools/products/stamps etc. have I bought and never really used enough? Too many. And if I bought everything just because it was affordable or cute, I'd be broke! So, I just know that it will always be there and if I really feel like I need it and will use it in the future, I can always get it later.

I do not have, nor do I intend to spend money on one.
I too love some of the work that is on the site using the Cuttlebug, but it isn't my "cup of tea."
As is said in many different areas of life - wouldn't life be dull if we were all the same or liked the same things.
This is just my humble opinion.

I too think its VERY affordable...and I have all the embossing folders ,but have never used it to make a card!!!! But...half the stuff in my room I've never used...and I have hundreds of stamps that I've never used to make a card either!!! I've got so many stamps that have never been mounted...but I swear ONE day I will need them!!!
Your Welcome...I feel we are all so good at enabling each other that I thought I'd be the anti-enabler. Maybe I'm just trying to justify my decision to not get one but after seeing the umpteenth card in the gallery using a Cuttlebug embossing folder one, I decided, I'm over it.

I'll admit, the idea of being able to churn out my own die-cuts whenever I want sounds really cool. Especially because living here in China I can't just run out to my LSS and buy a pack or two of embellishments for a project (there is no LSS!!!). However, at this point I can't justify the cost of the CB, the cost of the blank chipboard (I'd have to stock up on a ton), and the cost of all the dies, plus the cost of getting it here. My logical mind says I'd be better off just buying $200+ worth of pre-cut chipboard embellishments. Then again, I'll be back in the States in about 6 months - the second I step foot in the first craft store, all that sound logical thinking just might fly out the window!
I think it's very nice but I won't be buying it either. I don't want to spend the money and then find out I don't use it that much! I love to dry emboss, but I really like to dry emboss in just one area or to emboss in one color for one part and another color for another. I love the look, but I can achieve that look with my templates. I'm looking forward to getting the Bodacious Bouquet template next week.
Just curious...why some people think they are pricey? I paid less than 40.00 and the folders are less than 5.00...I paid that much for a Zyron just so I could get some adhesive on my stuff. Are they different prices in different places?
Here's another bugless cindy. All I need to do is take a look at all of the stuff that I "had to have" and still haven't used, and know that I can not get this too. The creations I see with it are so tempting, beautiful to look at.... but won't have my name on them.

I'm in the Cuttlebug-less boat as well. I think the cards and projects being made with it are very cool but it's way to expensive for me to own. I don't think I will ever own any type of die cut machine simply because of the cost. I'm totally okay with it too! I'm very happy with what I feel like is a large amount of "stuff" to create with!

for me that is over 2 months worth of "stamping supplies" budget and to me that is a lot of money
I really like everyone's bug creations, but I just barely started stamping and I haven't gotten over that yet, so I don't feel the need to branch out. Right now just using a background stamp is enough for me. Perhaps if I had been stamping for years I would feel differently.
Plus, every time I think about it I remember the basic grey notch tool that I just had to have and used once. Nope -- I'd rather save my money for new stamps or new coloring media!
Bugless here too..i have gotten great results w/the rolling pin..i have 2 folders now, the flowers and just got the snowflakes..those were the only ones i really liked..i like working w/the stencils also..as was said above..i can do one are for a great look..
For xmas i did a few cards w/the poinsetta brass stencil..just a border on each side..i loved it.. thx for listening..nice thread..loves ya Gail

Hi, I've just joined this site and am enjoying lookin' around. I'm "bug-less" also and will probably remain that way. I like to spend on papers and embellishments! Can't wait to see everyone's galleries.......
Blessings,
Tracy
No Cuttlebug here, and I'm not interested...which is odd, as usually everything people mention on here I am gung-ho over! LOL I just don't have anywhere to store one more thing and know I'd end up never dragging it out! More $$ for stamps this way!
No bugs for me either.......I don't own any die cutting machines. I love the embossing they do but I feel like unless I start scrappbooking more I better not head down that road.
Interesting thread. I love the cards being made, but like the others, I am still trying to amass the SU want list of mine. I want full size craft ink pads in all the colors, all the cardstock in all the colors and the watercolor crayons in all the colors. Plus sets, sets, sets. I love die cuts and would like to have a die cut machine, but it will have to wait.
I have a regular red sizzix die cutting machine that I bought with a 1/2 off cupon Mike's. I just HAD to have it, and I've bought some dies.... but I find myself really not using it as much as I was SURE I would!
So, I am also bugless...altho, I am thinking about getting some of the folders to use in my sizzix....but they keep getting moved down the list of "must haves".
I'm confused by this comment. What makes it "cheap"?
It's puported to be an inexpensive die cutting machine. But even if you get it with a 40% off coupon, it is still $50. And when you buy a CB, you are getting the CB and nothing more, so that is $50 for just the machine. Then say you buy five a2 embossing folders ($5 each) and three 2x2 die sets ($13 each), you've just increased your spending from $50 plus tax to $101 plus tax.
Now say you would like to use those Fiskars texture plates you bought seven years ago in your CB. You have to go buy the BISK ($20) or something similar. Oh darn, running that texture plate through your CB just broke a cutting pad ($9), so you have to go buy another set of those. In an effort to try and save some money and still get the use you want out of your inexpensive $50 purchase, you buy some discontinued dies from other companies but to use them in your CB you need the MPP ($20).
And then in three months' time, some crucial piece of plastic in the machine gives out and the rolling mechanism is broken, which cheeses you off because you had problems with getting the wrong screw for the handle to begin with, and you've had to replace your cutting plates several times already because the spacing in your CB is off and you've had to make up your own sandwich recipes because your CB doesn't match anyone else's who's posted a list of sandwiches.
JMHO. I know there are a horde of happy CBers out there.
I've never heard the phrase "cheeses you off" that is cute. Too funny. Anyway, these are very good points. I've just been guility in the past of jumping on bandwagons of tools I've seen used on SCS and this is one I'm going to pass on and just wanted to see who else was. Thanks everybody for sharing your thoughts. This is fun.

Bugless in Cincy. I've been tempted several times, but am convinced I just wouldn't use it enough to justify the cost and eventually it would become another dust collector in my stampin' room. Since I'm already trying to declutter, it's been easier to resist.
OMG....your post was hilarious! (and I own the lil bugger). Thanks for starting out my day with a big laugh. That was awesome.

I think it's affordable also, and with michaels 40% off coupon, dh bought me one today. now i can't wait to buy folders for it. I figure if that i have an embroidery machine and converter box for my sewing projects, i should have this for my stamping and scrapbook projects.
