Pretty expensive, especially the shipping, and you have to buy them in quantity. I finally bought a drill press this year. A pain in the butt for sure, but much less expensive!

Here are a couple of photos of one of the blocks I did. I decided to use white Stazon to cover the front then used an SU rub on and snowflakes stamped with Versamark and embossed with gold. I am really happy with how they turned out. I am selling them for $25 and have already sold 5.
Those are the cutest things EVER!!! I want to make one now!!

I would be worried that it would get too warm inside the block and the tulle would melt or go on fire.

Someone gave me a glass block a few years ago but it had a bigger opening than just a hole. She inserted lights and disguised the wire with evergreens and holly she probably purchased at Michaels or JoAnns. It was clear not frosted; no stamping involved.

I've seen faux etching spray that was less expensive than glass etching stuff. Would that work on the blocks? Nana Janet

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm ...
I'm thinkiing that a layer of vellum on the front will diffuse the lights nicely. Perhaps you can stamp or emboss your preferred images onto the vellum, and if coloring is required, color the images on the back side of the vellum. Just thinking of course, as I have not tried this particular idea. ;)

Best of luck!

I know a lady who paints college mascots on them and uses no lights whatsoever. She adds a bow to match, and sells them for about $20 each.

Alcohol inks and Perfect Pearls!

You can do something like this--it will just take more Perfect Pearls to coat the inside compared to a glass ornament. Or you could skip the Perfect Pearls step, and just do the alcohol inks on the outside.

Default Frosting Glass Block

Would one of these options work for you?
Swish etching cream on the inside and drain out the extra. Cover with sticky sheets and micro glass beads. Stamp on vellum and apply to block with sticky sheet. Also, the faux etching spray is great. We used it on our garage windows. Looks like frosted glass.

Sorry, most of my ideas have already been posted. Didn't mean to repeat.

I did that and it looked great! (Don't have any pics, tough. I gave it as a gift.)

Hobby Lobby. Their online store, Crafts, Etc., also carries them. CE has free shipping right now on orders over $25 (through the 26th), which is great because the blocks weigh a lot and probably cost quite a bit to ship.

I made my first block and started another one. We tried using etching cream on the first one, but it didn't come out well so my husband sandblasted it to etch it. Worked great! The second one that we started we are trying the etching cream again. So far the first side has turned out good. Apparently, we didn't use enough etching cream on the first block.

The glass blocks are really popular on the Cricut message boards. I've seen some absolutely gorgeous ones posted there.

Some have been in the Cricut Chat forum and some are in the Cricut Crafting forum. Search for glass blocks and/or etching. Since vinyl is often used for masking the etching cream, also look in the Cricut Crafts> Vinyl forum.

Yes, the cricut MB is where I seen the first of the blocks. For some reason I can't get the search feature to work for me on that MB.
