Copperkids, if you don't mind me asking what brand of foil did you get? I'm also looking for some more economical bulk options. These little sheets don't last very long
here is a foil by grafix, cant figure out if it's foiled paper, foil attached to paper or what... just giving some info if someone wants to do research. its a large quantity for a low price
My laser printer (which is several years old now) has been telling me my black is SERIOUSLY low for like a year. And it's fine I just ignore it - it's overly dramatic.
And when it actually stops printing do what we did at the office . Take out the toner cartridge, give it a few gentle shakes and put it back in the printer. Our office printer was in constant use and we could get a couple more days of printing out of the old toner cartridge LOL

i dont think it needs a fixative. i even tried to scratch mine off and it stays put. also, when i was laminating, some of the foil slid to the side so the letters did not get all the foil. after that, i re-adjusted the foil and ran it back through. worked fine.

I was wondering if there's a significant difference in the quality of foiling done by a cheap laminator (~$20) vs Minc. Is there anybody who has tried foiling using a laminator as well as minc and found a great deal of difference between the two?
Now that the 6" Minc is released, I tempted to buy it; but then I was wondering if the same could be achieved by buying a cheap laminator.

I have tried my old "Your Story" and a not so cheap "Royal Sovereign". The "Your Story" didn't work at all, leaving black spots. The "Royal Sovereign" worked, but the results were inconsistent. There were tiny black spots left 90% of the time, no matter which setting I used. The "Minc" has never failed on a setting of 3, with perfect results consistently. I've used both "Deco Foil" and "Heidi Swapp Foil", and both cover 100% of the laser print consistently. I think it's the rollers in the "Minc". There are four rollers verses two in most laminators. Aside from the temp differences I really don't know why the "Minc" is better, it just is. Perhaps someone has had different results with another machine??? I hope this helps you.
I bought the $30 Royal Sovereign and had those tiny black spots 90% of the time that Anne mentions, so I went and bought the Minc and I'm SO HAPPY I did Big difference between the RS and the Minc IMO.

Hi smriti, I, too, have been thinking about the 6 inch minc and almost bought it yesterday from HSN but then I checked out this Anna's Blog to look at examples and you can see black spots on the samples! Those little black spots drive me crazy! I am thinking that the small Minc might not work as effectively as the full-sized one. Don't know why that would be but here is another example and you can see the black spots Anna Griffin Minc | Crafting in the Rain. Check out the flower near the bottom of the post. I want to do this so badly but it has to be perfect.

You're so right, I didn't even give a thought to checking her examples closely. I magnified the last image, and there are lots of teeny ones. I'm wondering if the smaller one is made differently. Hope we get feedback from those who purchased the smaller unit.
bons - yes I too saw those spots and you're probably right the mini version maybe doesn't work as well as the regular one! Thanks for pointing that out - my mind can be at peace now I know I don't want to spend $100+ on a machine that I'm going to use for only one thing.
I am so stupid!!! I didn't see martha j post to my question. And now I have foiled paper. Not foil. But at least it's pretty and I can use in die machine to cut it out.

To my surprise, I received the 6" from my kids for Mother's Day yesterday! I immediately took it for a test drive. Guess what, No Black Specks, 100% coverage on three quick tests! I did not use the voice that comes with the machine, in case I was sending it back. So happy it works, I don't like returning gifts from my kids. Lucky you Annecards and so happy for you your kids really know you well!
Thanks for posting your experience with the mini minc and you've got me thinking again I guess I do want to wait till it's widely available so that I can get a good deal.

You're so welcome, I wasn't expecting it to work well after viewing the pics posted on the link below. I'm thinking Gale hit the nail on the head, the laser diecuts and sheets included may be the reason for the black spots. I used Heidi's diecuts and two printed on my laser for the tests, and all three of my tests are perfect. Yes, I have great kids, wish they lived closer! I would have never bought it myself, since I already had the Heidi's machine. My DH is quiet a handful right now, hoping things settle down soon so I can play. I'll post some pics when I can get to it.
Yesterday I had some of my losest friends over o stamp. We were tlking about new stuff and I mentioned the Minc. Of course, they wanted to see what I was talking about so I got it and the foils out....I showed them how to use it and we all had a very foiling afternoon. Each of tem aked me to order them one and some foils, and bunches of the pre printed items fom Heidi Swapp to put foil on. My sis who onlh lives maybe 4 miles away wants to see now too....everyone gets hooked. 4 more Mincs on the way to my house!
I just tried my 6" minc from HSN. The foiling was great. I examined the image (came with the minc) before foiling and there were a few spots on the image that weren't crisp. The foiling came out exactly as the image, so I don't think it's the machine itself that is causing the spotty foiling. The minc gets considerably hotter than my $20 Royal Sovereign laminator.
I worked with my Anna Griffin HSN Minc this weekend and posted two card sets to my gallery. The pics don't really do justice to the effect of this machine. I selected, sized and printed my own images as my test cases, as I had expected what came in the pack to work. No complaints! I agree with khogan - the Minc gets hot!
I included links to my pics from my gallery here. Let me know what you think! Diane
Hello all you lucky ladies that already have your AG Minc! I would like to verify something that I recently read about the machine. Is it true that other brands of foil (which aren't AG foil) will not work in her Minc machine?
The article was a question answer type, but for the life of me, I cannot remember where I saw it. However, it stated that the AG Minc will only work with her foils.
Lynne - I purchased Minc foil (Heidi Swapp reference) on a 40% off sale at my local Joanns. I used the teal color and it worked just fine. It comes in a 12" wide roll and must be trimmed for the AG machine because of the 6" opening. I also used colors from my HSN purchase which were 6" wide. I didn't try the glitter paper (not much crazy for that effect) and I didn't use her toner sheet or embellishments yet. I printed my own sentiments and had no issues. I did read, however, to restrict the foil to that specified for Minc for warranty purposes, I think. There are plenty of color choices. Hope this helps. Diane
Yup, YourStory doesn't get hot enough. :-( so I am going to use old fashioned iron instead. My husband found steel sheet to bypass the softness of ironing table matting. I am thinking I would slip an old pillow case over the steel plate hmmm...
Scrappin_Grandma - I checked out your blog and wondered what you meant by using parchment paper as your carrier sheet. I have a Your Story machine as well as the AG Minc. Did you make a "sleeve" with baking parchment paper for both machines? I'd like to try this for myself. I don't have any Deco foil. Thanks, Diane aka ciocidi

Yes I made a sleeve out of Reynolds parchment paper that you use for baking as my carrier sheet. I just cut the size I wanted and folded it in half.
I use it in both machines. I only tried the parchment paper on the setting 3 for the AG Minc.

My "Your Story" didn't work well with the foil, I used Deco foil. It got hot, but left lots of black spots. I'm thinking mine gets too hot.
I am intrigued by this foiling method. How do you know what ml your laminator is? We have a 3M Scotch TL902 Thermal Laminator at work. Is that something that will work? It was here when I took over this job and there are no instructions anywhere.
TIA
Marsha
Nice surprise! I printed a very detailed digi stamp on my laser printer and foiled it using black foil and it looks like it was heat embossed (well, I guess in a way it was). The foil is not a metallic look but it is glossy.
Finally a way to get the look of black embossing without any stray dots and with a VERY fine lines. Love it and wanted to share.
Over the past many years despite using many different brands of very fine black embossing powders and various methods to prep my paper, I never got a result as fine and immaculate as this foiling method. And I colored the image in with Copics and the black lines did not smear. I don't know if the foil will affect my Copic marker tip, though, but time will answer that question.

Can you please share info on where you found black foil? I can find lts of colors but not black.
Thanks in advance!

I found this to be the cheapest, and you get a role of white too. The other sites with black foil sell large rolls, and the cost is high. The white isn't great, but not bad. I love the black! Black Foil + White Foil
