I am in love with flowers made from felt. I tried to make some in my cuttlebug but my dies did not go through the felt.
Today Penniem posted some she made in her Big Shot. Has anyone else tried to make felt flowers? I'd love to know more about what works and what doesn't.
i have some felt, but havent tried it yet. I have heard its good with the big shot, but dont have one either. Would love to know if its possible with CB
I've just done them in the Big Shot! Love the adhesive-backed felt especially. And the glittery felt... you've got to try the fun foam, too, if you haven't yet.

cuttlebug dies don't work. i use sizzix originalz or bigz die in my cuttlebug - they seem to be the only thing that will go thru felt. i have heard it will work with the cricut with heat n bond ultra on it but i have not had time to try it yet...
Is Bigz a type of die I can look for at Michaels or Joanns? And it goes through my cuttlebug? I haven't used my CB for anything but CB dies and folders. I guess I should branch out more. Please tell me how!
And what is Heat and Bond Ultra? And does Joanns sell it? Does it come in different colors?

I LOVE felt also. Felt flowers, felt snowflakes. I've read about using the bug but I couldn't find any colors I of felt that were decent. I looked at Hobby Lobby and Wal-Mart. Where does everyone get their felt?

I've used Spellbinders flower dies with felt in my cuttlebug. I've had better results using stiff felt instead of the soft felt fabric squares. The cuts are neater and cleaner.
Michael's & Joanns carry the stiff felt. It's in the same area near the regular felt squares.
Here is a card in my gallery where I used Spellbinder's felt flowers as embellishments: PTI Bitty Dot Challenge-SMILE by Vina82 at Splitcoaststampers
If using felt with the Cuttlebug dies, run the die with felt through a couple of times so that it cuts all the way through. I would not recommend using additional paper as this will take up more space. The Cuttlebug dies are not meant to cut through thick materials as with felt, but will work. You may also want to use the stiffer felt as this does cut smoother and cleaner.
The Sizzix dies work great with any kind of felt in the Cuttlebug.

between the felt and the b plate. it just helps to 'complete' the cut of the fibers of the felt. does that make sense to anyone other than me?! LOL i don't always explain thing very well!
just use copy paper, it's not that thick.
on a side note... i'm going to look for the firm felt that others are talking about too.

It makes total sense and you do explain things well. I'll have to go buy some felt and give it a try.
The little sizzlits are "chemically etched" (don't ask me, I really have no clue either, but that's what they call them!). The steel rule dies have an actual metal cutting blade.

Exactly what I do too in my CB .... cuts the felt clean every time....
I have cut dies with felt all the time using CB & BigKick. I use all types of felt from the fluffy to adhesive back. I do use the CB dies. I get better results using the Big Kick if I am using fluffy felt. Results are the same with the other varieties of felt using both machines. HTH!
Well, I have a whole lot of felt scraps and I'm thinking I'll try to stiffen some up with spray starch to see if that works better. I've cut the soft felt, but it doesn't always hold together well after being die cut. Anyone else tried starching theirs?
subbing! I've been debating on whether to purchase a cb or go with the big bucks and get the bigshot. Which do you all prefer?
I have both, just recently got a big shot, but haven't had much chance to play with it yet. I do like how sturdy it is compared to the cuttlebug, but I'm still figuring out the sandwiches on it. The big shot has a slightly wider slot, so if you want to run the XL dies and get the extended plates, the plates will not fit through the cb. Sizzix.com has periodic specials on the machines and dies (sign up for email from them).
I have been working with wool felt and my Big Shot with Bigz Dies to create projects and just love it. I am seriously addicted to creating things out of fabric with this machine - and I don't even consider myself a sewer)
Those are a couple of examples of what I show on my blog that I worked with. The wool felt cuts really nicely with the dies. I can cut up to 8 layers of cotton fabric with them as well. Just love it!
I have used my CB to cut flowers using the Sizzix layered blooms ( or is it the layered flowers) die. I cut paper, chipboard and tightly felted wool. I made pins with the flowers that you could pin on clothes or your hair. That wool was thick and it cut them perfectly. The trick is what the others have stated - you must have the thicker dies that are meant for cutting thicker materials.
After reading this earlier, I decided to pull out my CB and dies and some cheap felt I have. I used the advice someone gave about using a piece of cardstock behind the die to make clean cuts and it worked great. I was able to use my CB dies and my Nesties, and this is cheap, flimsy felt. Now I can make my own embellishments with Felt, YAAA!
Lynn, I don't know what I was expecting, but that wasn't it. I love what you made with felt. I wish I had thought of that! Thanks for sharing. I clicked the link to see the stamps used on the furniture. Truly amazing and very daring.
