I am becoming less and less enchanted by SU's Basic Black. Actually mine seems to have a purple tint to it. So I am looking for a true black that does not need to be embossed and can be used for watercoloring. Anyone have a favorite to suggest for this. Thanks!

I have favorites depending on what coloring medium I'm using. For watercolor and just normal everyday black, I like Versafine ONyx Black. For Copics and alcohol markers, I like Brilliance Graphite Black. And finally, for Prismacolor Pencils & Gamsol, I use Palette Hybrid Noir. I can't wait to try the new Memento black though...I've heard wonderful things about it!
I hardly ever use my BB anymore because of this. I have replaced it with Stazon. Not as convenient to clean off stamps, but the results are so worth it... especially for watercoloring.

Exactly my answer, so I second this!

-Pitch Black Adirondack dye by Ranger for Copics and general stamping.
-Jet Black Archival ink by Ranger which is permanent and gives rich, full coverage.
-Black Soot Distress dye ink by Ranger for any type of sponging or coloring as it is the only "truly" black ink I have found - never gives a hint of any other colors.
-Brilliance Graphite Black by Tsukineko is a nice pigment ink that can be heat embossed.
-Onyx Black Versafine by Tsukineko for super fine detail images.
I love the Versafine Black Onyx. It takes a couple of minutes to dry on smoother paper, but it's a nice deep black and takes well to coloring of all sorts.
I'm a demo and I hate SU black ink! I use Stazon when I demo and palette or distress soot for everything else.

Thanks for the great responses. I'm happy to learn that I am not the only one with black ink issues. I will definately be buying a different one to try.

Black Staz-on for anything that is going to be coloured with any wet medium
Brilliance Graphite Black for sentiments and anything that will be coloured with a dry medium.
