I have read over and over and can not find out how to emboss without cutting. Am I missing something is there something I need to do, or can I not do it? Tahnks
You can absolutely do it! In my cuttlebug I use the following sandwich: A plate, B plate, die face up with the cs I want to emboss, 3 pieces of cardstock for a shim, tan embossing mat from Spellbinders, B plate. Make sure if you want to emboss, say, the front of a card that you open the card up. I tried to put the die in the middle of the card and it embossed the back too. But not in a pretty way. Can you spell "scrap paper"?

I have a cuttle bug and cut with nestabilites by placing it face up with the paper I want cut on top then the B plate. I have not tried embossing yet, but my understanding was that to get an embossed image you put the embossing mat on top of the paper so that the die does not have a hard surface to press against causing the cut. If you put the cs on top of the paper and then the embossing mat, how does that prevent the die from cutting?
okay, so I get how to emboss...I just did the dorky thing and embossed my whole card..."scrap paper". But what I don't get is how to keep the whole "sandwich thing in place so that its placed exactly where you want it..mine keeps moving..."more scrap paper!" Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Happy New Year!

I turn the die over with the cutting edge against the side to be embossed, position it just where I want it, then tape it in place with pieces of sticky post-it notes. Then I carefully turn it over so that the tan mat and shims can be placed on top of it with the cutting edge now up, then the top plate and crank it through. HTH!
I had my first try at this today - love the effect. It didn't stop raining long enough for me to get outside and take a picture though and the light inside has been awful!
If you're a visual person, the tutorial on this page of Nichole's blog might help.
Thanks for this discussion. I have been wanting to do this as well.
BTW - I guess I am known for my frugal ways. Those of you who get scrap paper this way - I can most always find a way to salvage parts of that paper! I use a lot of it for tags, die cuts, etc, or maybe use a larger piece for layering - your image or smaller layer can cover up the unattractive embossing!
