I have never dry embossed and am just loving all the gorgeous examples in the gallery! I had planned to buy the SU light table during SAB, but now with all the chatter about the Cuttlebug, I'm starting to rethink this and change my purchase.:p
I know the obvious...I can demo with the light table, but the CB is getting harder and harder to resist. I already have a Cricut.
Pleeeease tell me what to do (and don't say to buy both ;) )

It's official...I'm a stamping addict (second only to my "being a grandma" addiction)!
I too was going to buy the light table during SAB... BUT along came the CB and now I don't think I will ever get around to hand embossing with the light table, demo use aside. I think many customers will eventually get (or already have) the Bug, too, so I don't see the light table as something that would sell often anyway.
You would get the most use (and fun) out of a Cuttlebug. So I would say get the Bug instead. And, the cost is nearly the same if you use a coupon.
Hand embossing is real work and not always easy on intricate stencils to get a nice even look. I am going to sell my light table as my CB is on the way.
I have a light table and NEVER use it. I can't seem to get the results I want! I can't wait to get my Cuttlebug (have to find one first)! I'm not that psyched about the die cuts (although I imagine I will be eventually) the draw for me is the beautiful embossing ... I LOVE it!
I sold off all my brass stencils and lightbox due to tendinitis; too painful, and too time consuming to dry/pressure emboss that way.
I use the CB folders in my Big Shot (they are cross compatible), and love the results, and I am so happy I can pressure emboss once again, and now so easily and quickly--it is remarkable and the results are so beautiful!

I am another person who can't do the "lightbox" embossing. It's too hard on my hands and wrists. The "bug" is wonderful, and I'm loving it. I just returned an embossing folder that I had a duplicate. Came home with another duplicate. What's wrong with me? I was so excited to use my 50% coupon at Michaels that I grabbed the wrong item. Now I have to go back tomorrow. Hand embossing always hurt my hands so I didn't do it much. LOVE my Cuttlebug --a whole 1/4 sheet embossed in a second or two -- ABSOLUTELY the way to go!!! I'm saving my light box (non SU) for other projects where I need to kind of *see through* something.
How about buying the cuttlebug which I love and adore but then buying the cheapo version of the light table at Michaels. It works great. Then you could showcase cards you used the SU embossing plates on. I like the SU plates and light table because you can choose which part of the design you want to emboss rather than having to emboss everything on the plate at once. I wonder how many people actually buy the SU light box anyway. Most people I know look for things like that at Michaels so they can use a coupon.
I have both. The cuttlebug does produce some incredibly easy full page embossing -- but you can't take an SU brass stencil that coordinates with an WU set and emboss part of an image on that stencil anywhere you want on a piece of paper (at least I don't think so). If you really love the dry embossing look, and want to build your SU business, I recommend the light table and some stencils. The bodacious bouquet stencil is really beautiful when done with that set.
On the other hand, if you think your customers are into quick cards, go with the 'bug!

What Joan said! If you only want to use one image on a brass stencil, with a light table you can. With the 'Bug you have to emboss all the images on the stencil and cut them apart or try to position a small piece of paper over the one you want. So while I have a 'Bug and I'm lovin' it, I'll never get rid of my light table.
However, what I tell my customers is if you really LOVE dry embossing, our light table is worth the price. You can also use it to view slides and trace designs, not just dry embossing. But if you just want to try dry embossing or you only do a little dry embossing, you can use a cheaper table, do it on the window or use a pyrex casserole dish with a small light under it in a pinch.
I got my Cuttlebug today at M's with the big coupon. She started to say no, but I pointed out it was CB, not Cricut, and she said okay. I had two coupons and wanted to get an alphabet, but decided not to spend all that money today, so I just got an embossing folder for $6.99.
Do I need to buy the mats that I saw? There were two different thicknesses there. I am hoping I won't open it up and need more accessories before I can use it!
