I have the original Personal Electronic Cricuit Cutter. Has anyone downloaded an upgrade to the system? Was it successful? Were you then able to use the new design tools with it? Thanks for your help.
I wasn't aware there was such a thing. Can't wait to see what others say.

I'm not aware of downloading an upgrade to the machine (I have an expression, but I don't know if that makes a difference). But, I just got a Gypsy, and you can use the Gypsy to "update" the machine. There is a USB-type cord that connects the Gypsy to the Cricut, and you select on the Gypsy which kind of machine you have. It takes a long time but then I could use the Gypsy to cut. When I turn the machine on, it now says "insert cartridge, use Gypsy or Design Studio". I hope this helps.
There are upgrades to the firmware for the Expression, I updated mine right after I got it last February. My upgrade was needed because I use the SCAL program, but from what I understand, the firmware keeps up-to-date with any new features, etc. that are available for the Cricut itself. The information I used for this is located here: Help with Cricut Firmware - ScrappingTable, Sure Cuts A Lot (SCAL) & Cricut Resources - it might be helpful to you.

I had to run my second upgrade. I always thought the upgrades were for the newer carts. I just received four carts over Christmas and none of them were on my original list from the Design Studio.
Thank you all for your suggestions and ideas. They were very helpful. I tried to update my firmware today but it failed, so I'll wait until Monday and call the company to find out what else I can try to make this work. I appreciated your input. Thanks
I just updated the firmware for my Cricut original tonite. Very easy! I went from V1.31 to 1.34. Apparently it is needed for the new MTC upgrade to function optimally. Here is a link to a blog that explaines the process. It's under B. Prepping the Cricut.
There are font updates which are the carts & firmware updates for your machine. I do mine through the Design Studio or Gypsy, I do not know how you do it without them.
