When making a card, do you ever let the backs of the eyelets or brads show inside the card, if not matting?? Do you think it looks unslightly and unprofessional? There are times I just want to put a brad in, but then realize I've already laid down my layers. I'm not too sure how I feel about this. Guess I'm leaning towards 'not liking it'?
I agree with jtax, I also try not to let them show. My girlfriend (who is new to stamping) made me a beautiful card for Christmas ... but it had the brads showing on the inside of the card. It just really took away from the professional look of the card. Of course I didnt tell her because I didnt want to hurt her feelings and because I LOVED the card because she made it for me ... but that confirmed to me that I do NOT want the backs showing! She laughed too when she saw the Christmas card I gave her ... it just looked more finished.
I have on rare occasion let an eyelet show on the inside but never a brad. They are so unattractive on the back side! So, I guess I would have to say no, I don't let them be seen.
I don't for brads but will once in a while, let the back of an eyelet show. I only let it show if there is going to be ribbon or something strung though it and it would be too hard to glue down without showing.

I really do NOT like the look of the backs of brads and eyelets. I do whatever I can to avoid them showing on the backs of my cards. I think it makes it look like the hardware was an afterthought rather than a planned part of your card. KWIM?
I found some stickers that look like brads in the $1 section at Joann's, I got silver and white and I use those if I've forgotten to add the hardware. It looks much more professional and finished.
LOL, I'm so AR I don't even like for ribbon or cord to show on the inside of a card, let alone a brad or eyelet! If I realize that I wanted to include one after attaching all the layers, I will take it apart.

So...everybody here said they won't let the backs show but nobody said what they do to cover them up Unless they just make sure it's on a layer that is going on the main card and the brad or eyelet is put on before it is glued down to the base card.
sometimes brads and eyelets are an afterthought for me - so they do show on my cards! yikes! ;) I'm not AR at all - so hey, let em show - it doesn't bother me. I usually keep my cards inside a clear envelope after I read/receive them, so you'd never know the difference when looking through them for ideas later.

yup, that's right - they are on a layer on top of the base of the card.
Wowsa...didn't realize so many voting for "hidden". It never bothers me, but I may reconsider with the strong viewer feelings.
Be strong! LOL
I never cover them up. Many times I am using it on a layer that is popped up with dimensionals, so it's not a big deal. But if not, I just let them show on the backside. Doesn't bother me one bit. I don't care for the bump that happens when you try to cover them up, plus they can cause the cs to pull away if you aren't careful, too.
I prefer mine not to show, especially brads. If I REALLY want a brad in a location where the back will show, I'll cut the prongs off the brad and glue it down with Crystal Effects.
I always put eyelets or brads on layers so they don't show through on the inside of the card. I don't like how it looks at all, and also agree with Rachel... don't even like to let my ribbons show on the inside. I like a much more polished/professional look.

I agree. You should do what you like and not change just because of popular opinion. Sometimes I cover them, and sometimes I don't. If it is an addition that I make after I've put down all my layers, then that eyelet or brad back will indeed show on the inside. I'm not going for a professional look. It's supposed to be a hand-made card after all. JMHO. Have fun.

My opinion, too! The rest of my attention to detail makes up for the brad, eyelet, or ribbon showing on the inside.
I never, ever, ever let back of brads or eyelets show. I also have to hide the ends of ribbon too. I don't ever just glue and cut.
That being said when I took classes with Tim Holtz, most of his cards had brads inside.
Do what you like best.

I tend to agree....I know that I"ve done some that show and didn't like the look...

What she said! I totally agree . . . seeing the back of 'em doesn't bother me a bit. It IS a handmade card after all . . . .
I do not like the backs showing especially brads. I try to hide them in layers, but if that isn't possible then I cut the prongs off and glue them down. Usually I use mini glue dots as in the card.
I'm a don't let them show kind of gal. Same thing with ribbons and cords although the idea of using the ribbon to hold the wallet sized photo was a good exception to remember.
I have never even thought about this before. Yes, I let the backs of eyelet and brads show. It has never once bothered me and I don't think it ever will.

Sometimes mine show and sometimes they don't.
But what you can do, is if using brads, cut away the "arms" of the brad, and then just fasten them with a small glue dot or Crystal effects. i do that alot, if i want to use a brad, but don't want them to show.
I try to hide them whenever possible. Sometimes, though, when I think I have finished a card and look at it, I realize it needs something else.
Here is my solution: On most cards where a dark color has been used for a base, I usually cut a piece of white or cream paper to be lightly glued to the inside of the card. That is what I write on. I also think it looks more "finished" with the paper insert.
If a last minute brad or eyelet is added, I glue the paper insert in regardless of the color of the base cardstock. It hides the back of whatever I don't want showing.
Phew! 11Valerie11 lets hers show! If one day in my lifetime I'm as creatively talented in cardmaking as she is ...da...da...dah! Nirvana! So YEA mine can show!
If you use the Home Pro LR eyelet setter, the backs of the eyelets are as professional and finished as the eyelet fronts! They look great, so I let 'em show!
I don't let mine show now although I did at first - but I noticed one of my cards had been marked when the card was shut due to the back of the eyelet digging in. Now I cover them with a white sticky label to stop the digging in marks and then I use an insert to cover the whole inside of the card.
I will do everything I can do make sure mine don't show. I really dislike how they look on the inside of a card. I have also gotten cards in the mail where they were left uncovered on the inside and have left nasty marks on the sentiment side of the inside of the card. Almost ruins the beautiful work of the card. I think that it really doesn't take me much more time and gives it a much more finished look.
