Hi guys, I was wondering what the difference between these two markers are. The Ciao are so much cheaper than the sketches and I am just getting started. I want to make my money go as far as it can. Any help would be appreciated. thanks Karen
Sketch is flat oval shaped and Ciaos are round.
Sketch holds more ink.
Ciaos were not made to fit the airbrush system (but some people make them fit with some padding)
They are both refillable and use the same nibs (brush & chizzle).

If you are looking to start out I recommend ciao. They are cheaper and hold a little bit less ink (not a huge deal). The airbrush system - if you go that route - is easily adapted for ciao's. Both have the ame nibs, the same colours and can be used easily with the sketch (they are just cheaper). they are round, they don't have the numbers on the ends (which I fixed by printing them out and labelling them with my dymo).

Good luck with the choice and have fun!

Sketch hold 1cc of ink more. Thats it - we aren't talking huge amounts. Just wanted to validate this.
I started with the Ciaos because they were cheaper and I wanted to find out if I liked using them before "investing" in the more expensive markers (the Sketch markers in Canada run up to $9 each versus the Ciaos which are about $3.60!!).
Now, I do tend to fill in with the Sketch markers since I've found a much cheaper source.
I do find that there are a few "must have" colours for me that are only available in the Sketch markers---primarily the 000 shades---but when I first started out the Ciao colour selection was just fine.
I also found that I tend to use the lighter colours a lot more so if I had to go back and start over, I would build my collection of Ciaos starting with the lowest numbers in each colour family since I barely ever use the dark colours. I think that would have given me better shading options at the beginning.
Oh and one more thing.....if you are on a limited budget to get started, make sure you get one or more of the grey markers. You can add the darker shading with grey instead of buying the darker shades of the same colour. This way you are able to get more different colours and still can achieve the shading effect.
