I already have the Cricut machine so I have a hard time thinking about putting money towards another machine. I have been looking at lots of cards in the gallery and love the look of embossed cardstock. It gives it such a fun look. I looked at Hobby Lobby at the Cuttlebug and something by Fiskars. The one by Fiskars was one you did by hand. I am wondering if anyone has this and if it works. It would save me a lot of money if I could go that route as it is cheaper but I also don't want to waste money. If anyone has any advice I would appreciate it. Thanks!
I have a cuttlebug and LOVE it! Of course, I don't have a cricut but I hated embossing by hand! I can whip out 50 embossed cardfronts in an hour with my CB. I guess you'd just have to decide how often you wanted to do them - or see if you could find an SCS friend who would send them to you - maybe in trade for something from your cricut!
I say go for the cuttlebug with a coupon! WORTH EVERY DIME, and the productivity that you get with this machine is worth it. In addition the folders are so dirt cheap, even without a coupon. Hope this helps, I am not a gadget person but was gifted a CB by some dear friends and use that thing like crazy! I was asked to do guest invites to a wedding and cranked out the samples in no time at all. The embossing is such great quality and they keep adding new folders to keep it fun and exciting. Good luck with your decision!
i know i read somewhere on here where you can use the cuttlebug embossing folders and a rolling pin, i think they were getting pretty good results too. i love the cuttlebug embossing folders, i run them thru my wizard though..
I am saving my pennies for a Cuttlebug, but in the meantime I did buy an embossing folder to play with. Using the rolling pin method and thin cardstock, I got a pretty good result--probably much more labor intensive than running it through the Cuttlebug, but for now it'll work. My guess is that SU cardstock would not turn out as well since it is quite a bit thicker than the cardstock I used. HTH.
I used to do the embossing by hand, and liked the look. However, the cutterbug is so much nicer, and quicker. I can still use my patterns and brass stencils for embossing by hand, but it is a little hard on my old hands.
The cuttlebug is my favorite tool. I got it with a coupon, and got most of the folders and dies with coupons, also.

Another vote for the Cuttlebug. One of our stamping friends had the fiskars texturing stuff & really never got very good results with it.
Hopefully, you will find a good deal on a cuttlebug, with a coupon. In our area, Michaels had the best price. The allowed me to use a joanns 50% off coupon.
Then, you can start collecting the embossing folders, whenever Michaels or Hobby Lobby have their coupons

I have both the cuttlebug and the cricut and I love them both...
the trick ladies with the folders and the rollingpin is you HAVE to wet the paper first!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
works great!!
have fun

I have used the rolling pin and gotten great sucess with it, I don't own a cuttlebug, althogh would like to get a Big Kick. When using the rolling pin I make sure I spray the cardstock with 91% alchol in a spray bottle, it helps the paper dry quicker with less warpage, but also makes a nice deep impression with the plates.

Interesting idea to use alcohol instead of water--do you have any problems with "staining" or any discolored areas from the alcohol?
I love my Cuttlebug and use it often! I have embossing folders and have also purchased a lot of their dies. Now if I can just figure out a way to store all this stuff!

I have some of those Fiskaars plates and tried using their tool to do them by hand. It tore some paper and was REALLY hard to do on heavier paper. Besides the fact that my hand hurt so bad I couldn't write for a week, it was really time consuming. I love the cuttlebug!! It's one of my fav tools now!
