On the thread that asked "What do you regret buying?" there was a poster or two that said they regreted the CB. I'm curious - why do you regret that purchase?
I can't say that I "regret" purchasing my CB, because it was what I needed at the time. I needed the portability of the CB because I was taking it to a rehab facility every day to play with it with my SIL...
BUT, if not for the size, I would have "preferred" the Big Shot. It's much sturdier and easier to roll things through. As I say, the CB suited my needs at the time, so I can't really regret it. I have gotten a ton of use out of it.
I don't know why they regret it but I love mine. It just gives a card so many
great looks and backgrounds to work with. I love the embossing folders. Plus, I can use it with my Nestabilities. Of course, I haven't tried the others
so I can't compare.

Can't say for sure, but I wonder if some of those regrets are because now SU! is carrying the Big Shot? If you're a demonstrator, you can't demo the bug . . . so now it might look like wasted money?
I love my Cuttlebug, too! And because you can use Nestabilities and the new SU Big Shot dies, it is now even more versatile. The CB is the only "machine" I own.
I just had to read to see if anyone was unhappy with their CB. I bought mine on sale, and think it is the best buy ever! I like using it too. The effects are awesome and the CB is no nicely versatile, being able to use it with so many other dies and embossing folders!
I reget buying the Cuttlebug. I thought it would be easier on my hands than the Sizzix, but I always seem to go back to the Sizzix. It's actually easier for me to use. No stupid "sandwich" to remember either!
It is my favorite thing. Pop some CS into the embossing folder, throw it on a card, and with not much else you have a gorgeous work of art. I love mine! I get so many people (not in the hobby) asking me how I did the embossing! I can't imagine not liking it.
I'm another cuttlebug lover! I love that I can use the embossing folders, nestabilities, Sizzix Bigz and Bigz XL dies.... it totally meets my needs! I use that sucker daily!
I have no regrets what so ever. I love it. yeah sometimes you gotta figure out how to sandwich it. but that's a small price to pay. I used to be an SU demo and now I am not. So now I'm not tied to any one product line. Thats really nice. I can use a Bug or a Bind it all or what ever I want.... I still hold classes in my house and make decent $ for doing so.
My 2 cents worth.
Jill
This post is timely, I was just going to list mine on ebay! I had to have it, and I think I've used it twice. It's definitely a purchase that I regret.
It's a great product, and I love what others are doing with it, but I prefer more simple stamping. I just never use it.
I just got mine and after I got the red mat from plumbing dept at Home Depot I just love it. I can use the nesties and other dies from spellbinders perfectly.
I also used the 50% off coupon from M so can't beat the price
I have a cb and have never used it. I need to get it out. My question is do the sandwiches change on it?

Yes, the "sandwich" changes according to which company's die you are using.
I'm new at this so I hope I can explain this right.
Under Tool and Product Talk , find the CUTTLEBUG FAQ thread.
When you click on to the Cuttlebug FAQ, you will see "Cat's Fantastic Sandwich Stack List" mentioned in the 3rd paragragh.
You can print out the list for future referance.
Cat has done us all such a wonderful service by compiling this list! Every time I reach for my "bug", I am grateful to her for all her hard work!
I hope this helps. As you can see by my explanation, I am a little "computer challenged!" LOL!!;)
that's one of the things I love about the Big Shot is that it comes with the multipurpose platform...it has the layers printed on it, and has tabs that you can layer or take off for different dies.
I only "regret" my Cuttlebug when the plates crack. Even when I follow the directions exactly. When I called Provo Craft customer service they seemed shocked that the plates broke so quickly for me and sent out a replacement set. They are supposed to last about 6 months or so, mine hadn't even made it 3 months.
I'm saving for a SU! Big Shot, my own research has shown it to be a sturdier machine. I do like the small foot print of the Cuttle bug but I'm going to hang onto it for the embossing plates (I FINALLY found Swiss Dots--and at 40% off too!) since the plates don't crack when I use it.
I do like the colors of the black Big Shot much better than the red Big Kick.

Love my 'Bug'! After doing research, I bought the 'Bug' in April and haven't looked back. I haven't broken a plate yet but did throw one away because it was getting so 'bowed' that it kinda popped when it went through the 'Bug'. Also, it was getting so 'scuffed' that it was leaving impressions on the die cutout. This is okay for 'leaves' but didn't look good if I wanted a smooth surface. I have used the Nestabilities, brass stencils, CB embossing folders, CB dies, Sizzits dies, Bigz dies, Fiskars textures plates, the list goes on. It is the best $43.00 I ever spent on a craft tool. (From CreativeXpress this inclues the shipping costs.) Of course, all the other goodies $$$ but you can use other company products in the 'Bug'. (Of course, I use coupons whenever I can.)
I do cards mostly just for myself or to donate so haven't felt the need to buy another die cutting tool. The 'Bug' fits my needs for now. It is always out on the worktable next to my ScorPal and paper cutter ready for use.
I purchased the Cuttlebug a few years ago as my first die cutting and embossing machine. It was a good machine for a starter and I don't regret the purchase even at $89.00. No coupons at that time in the store.
Then I graduated to the BIGkick and feel it is a much sturdier machine. I can use various manufacturer's dies, brass stencils, various paper, and other media with it.
I have to say that I have never broken a cutting pad in any of my machines and don't understand how that can happen. The instructions for the order of cutting pads and paper/media are spelled out in pictures. The only exception would be the Nestabilities. They are a much more recent product.
I loved my CB, but I made the switch to the Big Shot when I kept hearing side-by-side comparisons that rated the Big Shot better. I gave my mom the CB, and now SHE wants the Big Shot.
The CB is nice--I like how it folds up compactly. It isn't really sturdy--tends to shift despite what they say to do to "lock" it into place. A few people have had their cranks come off.
I do know the Big Shot is sturdier and works more smoothly (in my opinion). I also think it handles the thicker dies more smoothly than the CB.
I've heard that not all Sizzix dies work in the CB and some people have had to trim the edges off to get them to fit (Bigz XL dies, I think), while others say that everything fits in the CB.
Think through how much you think you will use it--and it's hard to know. I bought a Cricut and it was just too inconvenient--others LOVE it. I heard all the recommendations for the ATG, but I can't stand it.
See if your LSS has a CB you can try out at a class--or an SU! demo for the Big Shot--before you spend the money.
That is the only regret here, too! My dh bought me mine for Mother's Day. When my mom came to visit, she fell in love, too! She lives some distance away, and so we went and bought her one right away. And she loves it! I love how easy it is to use, and that it changes a card and gives it so much oomph without a lot of work!
I bought my Cuttlebug because it's the only machine I could afford and it was also the only one available at the time in my local Michael's (except the very expensive Cricut!).
I've never regretted it for a minute. I actually have to remember that I have background stamps to use!
I have Big Shot-Cuttle Bug and Cricut- Cuttlebug is by far my favorite. Love that is so light weight-and easy to sandwich---love-love-love the CB embossing folders!!!
I LOVE my CB and it DOES take Sizzix Bigz XL dies--I own one and it works perfectly. I've never broken or replaced a plate and it cuts thru everything that the Sizzix does. It's sturdy enough, so that's not an issue---you'd have to be really hard on your stuff to break the CB IMO, plus it's SO CHEAP!!! $35 with a coupon--can't beat that ;)
For me, the cuttlebug was one of my best purchases. Adds so much dimension to a card. Sorry to those who have found it is not their "cup of tea".
