Default Copics to decorate plates?

I am really wanting to decorate a "Cupcakes for Santa" plate for my girls. While I am open to suggestions on the best way to do this, my favorite idea is to use Taylored Expressions' stamps (w/ Stazon) and color them in with my copics. My understanding is that the copics are alcohol-based, not water-based, right? So in theory they should stay on the plate unless I use alcohol to clean it (not likely :-) . My other options are to decopauge (sp?), or do a send-in kit that is done on plastic plates (if I can find one). Any input?

Hmmm . . . StazOn doesn't really work very well with Copics unless you are VERY careful about butting the Copic right up next to the StazOn. Because they are both alcohol based, they react to each other and the StazOn bleeds into the markers. As for an alternative on glass, I'm not really sure about a solution for that. Maybe if you heat set the StazOn? I just don't know. But I'd love to see pictures when you get it finished - such a cute idea!!

I hadn't thought about how Stazon and copics work together - to be honest I avoid Stazon at all costs! :-) I was just trying to come up with a way to to get it on a plate. Hmmmm....

Here's my inspiration:

She used a cupcake rub-on and stickers for the words. Cute, huh?

Very cute. Perhaps a make your own pottery store could suggest what you can use.

Oh my gosh, that is soooo cute!! I have an idea. What about acrylic paint pens? They come in sooo many colors, you can use them on glass, and I believe that they are dishwasher "kinda safe." I'm sure the paint will eventually come off if you wash them in your dishwasher - you could always hand wash it to preserve your work. You could stamp your image in StazOn, then use the acrylic paint pens to color it in. I think you can buy them at Mike's, or probably an art store for a better selection of colors. Can't wait to see yours!!

There are glass paints that come in markers. I can't remember the brand... Pebeo, maybe? Anyway, I saw them at Michael's. I used the paints several years ago when my little one and I decorated coffee mugs for Christmas presents. Gosh, markers would have been SO much easier, lol! Anyway, you heat set the paint in the oven and the objects are then dishwasher safe and safe for food use, too!

I know that I used a copic marker to hide a chip on a red plate. It was a perfect match and I thought it was going to work. It came off the first time I washed the plate. I don't think Copics are the answer for this one!

That's what I was gonna suggest--Pebeo and Vitrea are designed specifically for glass and china surfaces, and they seem to have a nice range of colors, too!

Hi, Betsy!!! I'm waving to you from Whidbey! *chuckle*
