Ok so after resisting for a while I too just got my first copics - I've been wondering myself - do you have to store them vertically like other markers for best results or will horizontal be ok?
your first Copics!! Yay you!! You are going to love them!
I ordered 4 of the Magpies because of this post and I love them!! The cubbies are perfect for Distress ink pads too if you have them as I like to keep them on my craft table in reach at all times just like my Copics. I arranged my Copics in the cubbies by color family and it is a wonderful storage system!
Can you post a picture of this Magpie system with your Copics inside? I'm looking at revamping my Copic house system as I've outgrown what I'm currently using!
You can lay your Copics any direction that you like - horizontal or vertical. The ink is in the markers in such a way that the caps on both ends maintain the pressure so that the ink flows evenly regardless of if you lay them vertically or horizontally. So either system works!! This is information that I received from Marianne Walker (the Copic guru) at the Certification class that I went to a couple of years ago, but it's also included on her blog. Hope this helps!
I traveled this weekend for the first time with my new storage bag for my Copics and I loved it! It was so much easier to work with than my old system.
We were out of town so I could go to a Copic class. It was nice to be able to take them so I could color in the hotel last night. Now we are headed back home.

There are 9 cubbies and 30 markers will fit in a cubbie, so 270 copics.
I use the Spacemaker X-cubes, which looks like it would fit more, but they hold 25 markers per spot, so they get 100 per cube. (I just love the "look" of the colors in this formation better!) Plus I use my magpie for other things like holding my black ink pads (4 fit in a cubbie) or my hermie dot roller.
I found some plastic cases at my Hobby Lobby right by where they sell the Copics. They are generically wrapped, and pretty inexpensive ($8??) They look like this: Copic Storage Example
It works out great for me--- until the next best thing comes along. :p
I'm so glad it worked out for you, too! I can tell you that I have nearly all of the Copic colors (with the exception of some of the grays), and they all fit!! So, there will be no need for you to get another solution, because this one is set up to work until you complete your set. And I love that I can carry it from room to room and in the car.
Hi Karyolyn,
Do you know which aisle in Mike's I can find this? Will it be in the scrapbooking aisle's? Also does it have a lid?
At the Mikes I shop at they are in two places, one where all the other rolling cases and organization items are and often I can find them in the center aisle with some other coordinating totes and things.
What Gina said . . . LOL That's where I've always found them, too. They don't have a lid - but they're meant for photo storage. You'll see them with two or three clear boxes in them - I just pull those out and use them for other stuff. Hope this helps!

My question isnt on storage....its more of a general copic question....and you ALL seem to know A LOT about copics...lol
I don't have any yet and was wondering which are the best to start with, the Ciao or the Sketch? I would be using them for coloring my stamped images if that makes a difference?
I'd be greatful for any advice....thanks in advance!

Love it, love it, love it. It isn't portable but it will hold both Sketch and Ciao markers plus reinkers. I am finally able to organize them by color family and be able to get to any of them at a moment's notice. If I need to transport them I have a Copic wallet case for that. Oozak is out of them at the moment but they are expecting a big shipment within the week.
I store my copics in acrylic boxes from The Container Store. I don't keep the lids on the boxes. I have each color in a box. There are so many "E" colors that I have those divided into 2 boxes.
I also use the Pampered Chef tool turnabout but it is completely full except the center. I have the containers from the Container store that I am currently keeping tubes of seed beads for jewelry making that I have been thinking of changing to some other container and was wondering what to do with the Container store cases. Thanks for the idea Ginger. I will have to try that if I buy any more Copics.
I was going to use the Pampered Chef holder too, but I knew that I'd be purchasing more. The photos that are within the link show all of the copics. Yes, I do have all of them. I was tired of not having the color I needed so when I ordered I ordered a few at a time.
My DH made me this last year and has since made me a bigger one... The one I have now holds over 200 Copics.. I should get a pic of the new one sometime... It looks the same as this one..just much bigger though.
I was using metal container - pen holders (like small coffee cans), but I wanted something more organized so I got 2 of the CTMH marker towers. They sit on my table right in front of me and I can see all my colours. I have the Caio markers, so I had to put a plug in the bottom of the hole so the marker would stick out a bit so I could see the cap/colour, but other than that they are perfect. They hold 76 pens in each tower, but the sketch markers are too big. I only have about 6 or 7 sketch and the rest caio. Here's the item I'm talking about:
Tracy, what exactly did he use to make that? I love it and it looks so sturdy!
Cat_Woman, those are really nice marker shelves! Does anyone know if SU! sells a marker holder for their markers (besides the plastic carrying case that the full set comes in)?

No SU doesnt. =( Wish they did but they are really missing a market there. I just got 2 of the CTMH marker storage units for all my SU markers and colored pencils. Love the idea bout putting something in the bottom for the Ciao copics because I had my meager Copics collection in there but it was bugging me that they kept slipping back and I couldnt grab them so I moved them out of there. I made a holder out of a piece of foam board I had and a piece of wood grain DSP! LOL
Paper Plus had this cs at a great price. They have local stores and an online store. I just paid $25 with tax for it at the store near me. It's $35 plus tax at Neenah online.
I found this at Michael's on clearance. I've seen them there recently, but I don't think they're on clearance any more. You can always use a coupon!! It had some photo boxes in it when I bought it. I just added acrylic sheets to separate the color families. I love that it's so portable. It also worked great on a recent long road trip in the car.
Love this! I don't travel with mine, but I'm always moving things around and this is a great idea!!!
