Copic Craze: Have we improved this struggling economy?
The question of how many Copics SCSers have has come up on the Copic Chatter thread again...so I thought it would be interesting to re-do it, since the last one is quite outdated.
It will be interesting to see if we have helped out the economy at all...LOL
And if we have been spending on Copics like crazy, then certainly Japan must be getting a boost...
Yes, I justify spending money on crafting supplies by looking at it as doing my little part to improve cash flow in the US. Haha!
Here is the old poll if you want to compare results:
I'm just not *that* into coloring, personally. I have a good set of Derwent water color pencils (thanks mom!), so that should keep me busy. I'd rather spend my funds in other areas and jsut enjoy seeing what others make.
i admit I did fall into the craze, but after not being able to buy alot of colors at once, I got very frustrated and went back to my pencils and OMS. I own all 120 prismas and plan on buying the watercolor set one day too. Its just easier and more affordable for me.
I'm missing 29 colors, plus some of the neutrals and flourescents. Don't know that I'll ever get all the neutrals (many are way to similar) or flourescents (NMS).
But I just noticed that I'm missing 4 colors to complete the PTI shades, so I'll have to get those. And then you can't just buy 4; have to spend $50 to get the free shipping from oozak.com. So that'll be about 13 markers. Then I'll only have 16 more colors to go.
After coloring with Marianne last weekend, I feel much more confident in my blending skills...but still have a long way to go. I have quite a few (about 160 as of this morning) that I've purchased 10 or so at a time. I'm one of those people that feels like if I don't have a big enough selection I'll never have just the right color....it's a bad habit of mine, but they sure do look pretty on my shelf!
I have all of the Copic's and I am waiting for the new ones to come out so that I can get those as well. I do alot of coloring so I have several coloring mediums. I am contributing to both the US and Canadian economy, I have bought most of my Copic's from the Merri Artist in the US and I have purchased several from Curry's in Canada, so know one can say that I am not doing my part to help our economy.

Cher,
I justify my purchases that way also!
I really try to buy from US companies, at least Copic has a US distributor, and US stores make money from the sales. This is what bothers me about some of the stamp companies overseas that wont sell to US stores, I don't feel like I am helping our country out at all. I know it isn't much but every little bit counts.
I have all the colors except the flourescent ones. I'm not quite sure what I'ld do with those. But, this weekend Blick is having a huge sale I'm going to pick some up for a friend and I just might have to get myself those last few colors. And yes, I do use all of the neutrals, because I know people have asked why so many grays.
I finally own all of them. Well, until the new colors come out, lol. I gave in when the prices were gonna go up...just didn't want to have to pay more when I knew I would buy them all anyways.
I just add a couple here and there. usually when Hobby Lobby has a coupon/sale. I have a friend that is building her collection and when she orders, I will get one or two then too.
I forgot all about that price change. You know, we did not see them change here at all. Of course, the exchange rate stinks so it is costing me more in that respect. Doesn't seem to stop me though...
Well there are not nearly as many votes...but the trend of this new poll looks like a lot more people have begun to purchase Copics in the past few months!!

I have two sets but to be honest, I don't like them as much as I like Prismacolor markers. I have a smearing issue with copics and palette ink but never had the problem with prismacolor and palette ink. I do like the colors though, but do not have the desire to get more.
I own only 2 (a very pale pink and the blender), because I will buy only the colors I can't get in the Bic Mark Its. I needed a Caucasian flesh color, and I actually use the blender to do my shading, instead of all that work with the different shades of color.
I feel like my pocket should be full of cash since I have not bought a single one yet...but every time I put my hand in there it is empty...what is that all about...lol Anyway, when I get into something I have to have it all so this is what is keeping me from getting started right now..maybe someday but just not right now. I do have all the 132 prismas and have not mastered those yet either....some of you ladies do amazing work with the copics...blessings.
I originally bought 11 then added 44 2 weeks ago and just yesterday ordered 2 more. so I am up to 57, I will just add 2-3 markers at a time now. Because they are not cheap but I feel they are worth it and I enjoy coloring with markers over any other medium.
I have quite a few now (how did that happen!!), and I totally want more!! I even made myself a Copic Chart Book that I took with me on a recent vacation, just in case there was a store that sold them! I am glad I did because I found a great stamp store in New Hampshire and LOADED up on both Sketch and refills! Score!!!
I just got my set of 36 a couple of weeks ago, then saw on some videos on youtube that I really needed some more. So I have another order coming in. Sorry, I'm not going to count them - I don't want to know. My first two cards I did with them I just posted to my new gallery today and I really enjoyed using them. I'm a little depressed over what I spent on them - but I did shop around and made sure I was getting the absolute best deal!

Wow! I didn't know Hobby Lobby carries them! I checked Michael's because they're close by - I think the closest Hobby Lobby is about an hour away from me. May be worth the trip!:p

They don't have all the colors and they only carry the Sketch ones but I have gotten most of the ones I can there and when I order I get the colors that they don't have.
I have been trying bravely to resist the urge to buy some Copics. So far, I haven't bought any, but it's just a matter of time! ;)
That was then, this is now. I've voted! Carpe Diem is having an irresistible sale ($3.56 per sketch marker, free shipping with an $80 order, offer good through July 12th), so I've ordered my first 23 Copics. They'll be here tomorrow, and I still have time to place another order before the sale ends! Woo-Hoo! I'm helping the struggling economy!
