I saw on a blog where a stamper (think it was Dawn) got her Card magazine in. I looked up the site and for 6 issues, 50 bucks US or 60 bucks Canadian.
Why so expensive? Is it more a 'book' than a magazine?
I love to have a few subscriptions to card magazines, as I like to take them with me on holidays, to work to read on breaks, etc. And they give me endless amounts of ideas.
But this magazine looks so expensive, I am wondering what it is all about?
I do agree with you about getting ideas on SCS, but for me, having some good magazines keeps me in the hobby when I am away from home. Piles of them go into my suitcase! Even when I go to my sister's place a few hours away, I always throw a few into my suitcase! Plus, it is great seeing SCS girls with their published cards!
So I am trying to figure out if Cards is more than a magazine for that price.
I have a subscription to Cards. It's a lovely magazine in that there are tons of beautiful cards to look at and they are well-photographed and presented.
Apart from that, it's AWFUL. There is almost no other content and what little content there is, well, it's atrocious! Badly written articles that provide almost no real information.
I expected a lot more from a magazine that has a per price issue of over $20.00 in Canada. I doubt very much that I will renew my subscription.
Papercrafts is far, far more informative and way cheaper.
I have learned way, way more from the blogs of the lovely and talented ladies who frequent SCS.
Personally, I consider CARDS more of a book than a magazine...there are very FEW advertisements (which is one of the reasons I liked it). When it first came out, I bought every single issue for almost two years (and most were before M's carried it so I could use a coupon), even got one of my cards published in it (and believe me, I sent a lot of submissions before getting one card picked up). After a while I just got sick of seeing the exact same people published month after month...great cards but they all started to look the same after a while.
Is this the one that is not the typical size of a magazine but more like an 8x6 size? I have looked through a book/magazine a few times and I thought it was CARDS but now I am confused
I love CARDS magazine. yes psychkim it is more like and 8x6 size.
I love that M's carries it so I can get it with my 40% off coupon.
I've been buying it for about 2 years and always find tons of samples I would like to CASE.
Cards is probably my favorite craft magazine. It's all cards and only cards. There are very few ads and articles.
It is very expensive. The cover price is $20, I think it's about $10 an issue if you get the annual subscription.
I finally broke down and subscribed because so many of my swap group members are being published in upcoming issues, including myself in July/Aug. (Great swaps- woot!)

I agree. They claim to be reader based, but it is always the same people published. I do like the magazine, but won't be renewing when my subscription is up. There is very little stamping. It is more like scrapbook type cards. (Does that make sense?)
I love it - I regularly go back to old issues for ideas and inspiration. I tear up all of my magazines when I am done. . .EXCEPT Cards!!! (And Paper Trends too - they are the same publishers as Scrapbook Trends) I love that the whole thing is about the CARDS .. ..hardly any ads or anything else - just gorgeous eye candy!! I think its a GREAT magazine for tossing into a suitcase, or the car when you want something to enjoy!

I completely agree - the vast majority of the cards are made with patterned paper, dimensional embellishments (flowers, chipboard, etc.) and perhaps a rub-on sentiment. They are beautifully photographed, and while I've gotten some nice ideas from them I've found that I just can't justify the cost (even with the coupon, they're pricey!) They also put out Paper Trends (which I like even better because it features non card projects, but offers VERY little in the way of directions) and a scrapbook one, too.
It is a very pretty magazine, but if it wasn't for the discount I got on a subscription, I doubt I'd have subscribed. I know I won't be renewing.
The cards are beautiful, and anything can be recreated using stamps, if I wanted to. I just get enough input from other sources that it's an extra expense that I'd rather allocate to something else.
If you want to try out just one or two issues and still get the discount you'd get with a subscription, check out their web site for back issues - they sell at $9.95 (US) each, not sure about shipping. The page is here
You could always buy one or two issues from eBay too. I know that's what my friend does. I saw the back issues that she bought and I just got a subscription for myself. For the price, I'll probably just be keeping it for one year, but we'll see. It is more like a book and I know I won't be cutting it up like I do my other magazines.
There are lots of these magazine on ebay if you do a search for cuttlebug,
and scrapbook trends card magazine, maybe a seller even has more then one to buy and combines shipping

I dislike Cards as well. At first, I was excited about it . . . but like someone else mentioned, the samples all started to look the same! And, I want to READ as well . . . articles about stampers and about stamping. It's a "pretty" magazine . . . but just not for me. I'll stick with SCS and Papercrafts.

I consider CARDS more of a book too. I got mine a coupon at a time from Michael's. I just have one for each month to get seasonal ideas and a couple special issue ones.
I saw a copy of the magazine and I was not impressed, looks pretty but that is it, so far the best for me, is Paper Crafts, I agree it is more Realistic and explains things better. But I have learned most of what I know from this site .

They send you 2 copies of the issue that you're published in, and $20 (or $25?) in free supplies provided by their sponsors.
I know it's $20 as I'm anxiously awaiting my very first time to receive the 2 free issues and merchandise for being published! I love Cards magazine! I think it's beautifully done and very professional. It is more expensive than other magazines, but well worth it IMO! ;) (and I'm not saying that because they published me! I wouldn't have submitted to them if I didn't love what they do!)
Congrads to everyone who has been pubbed in Cards!! I love the publication....I agree I feel it is more like a book than a magazine. I love PaperCrafts also but, I kinda like not having so many ads in Cards.
PaperCrafts is better for tutorials and Cards is better for lots of ideas.

I just bought two back issues and shipping was only $4.
Congratulations, Tammy! Do you know which issue? I'll watch for it!
Thanks Betsy! It's actually in the May issue which should be appearing at any time now! (I've been waiting since December for this moment to arrive!) My card uses Kitchen Sink Stamps, and I'm the first DT member for Kitchen Sink to be published using those stamps too, so it's exciting for Maria (the owner) as well!
I would say that Cards is more of a book than a magazine. I bought my one and only copy with a coupon from Michaels. I was very impressed with it the frist time I flipped through it but after that, not so much. Some of the cards were very pretty especially the ones on the cover but the others I probably would never case. Maybe I just got a dud issue or something, I don't know, either way I will never purchase another one at that price. I would rather find my ideas here and spend my $10 on a stamp or something. JMHO.
They are currently running a promotion where they will give you a gas card if you sign up for a subscription! I've been getting it at M's but with gas prices being so HIGH!!! it might be an offer I can't refuse!!

Cards is very pricey. I use the coupon and M's or HL to get mine too. I noticed though that you can order back issues from their website really cheap too. Lets just say that if I had to pay full price, I probably wouldn't get buy it.
