I just couldn't resist.
I ordered my Inktense pencils. I've been waiting for a good price and I got it. I paid only $75 for the full set of 72.
Even better? Right now they're down to $70...AND there's free shipping! :p Amazon.com: Derwent Inktense Pencils, 4mm Core, Metal Tin, 72 Count (2301843): Office Products
Suggested retail is $205...and Dick Blick gets $117 plus shipping right now.
So. Consider yourself enabled! ;)
You would think that a post entitled "Blatant enabling here..." would be warning enough to cause me NOT to read it. Au contraire. Read it anyway. Researched product. Now I've ordered it. 72 colors from Amazon $70 with free shipping. I should be committed to the nearest asylum.

Oh, no. That is definitely not a warning. It's an invitation! Hee Hee!
Thank you for "enabling," Diane. I saw the original post a little bit late . . . but at the time, the price was at $80, so I thought that was still a good enough deal for me (although I had no idea that the prices at Amazon could vary so quickly).
I had just purchased the blocks not that long ago. Oh my. Merry Christmas and Happy Birthday to me?! Now to have the time to use them all .
Arrrgh! I caved on Sunday and ordered these - I don't feel tooooo guilty, because they've been on a wish list for a while, and $70 is a really good price. The cause of my frustration? They are scheduled for delivery on Thursday, but they are in my town NOW! And it's killing me to wait! (My son told me last night that UPS considers today a holiday and they are only delivering air & urgent packages today, so I don't expect that I'll see them early.)
It's really unreasonable on my part, I know - I've been waiting to order these for months, and now it's killing me to wait for two extra days. And I remember back in the day, when you would order something from the Sears catalog, you were lucky if it arrived in a week - and then you had to drive to the catalog center to pick it up. An order placed on Sunday and arriving on Thursday, with a holiday in there, is really speedy shipping. But I want an oompa-loompa NOW!
I was waffling about do I need them and finally gave into the urge. I used a $25 gift card so they are a super bargain at $50. They'll be here on Friday - woo hoo
I forgot to post this picture back when the discussion was going on.
Enjoy
From the back/right to the front/left...Prismacolors, watercolor crayons, watercolor pencils, inktense pencils, distress markers, SU markers. My bins are 5 high and 9 wide. Each media takes up vertical rows, and they are all in color order. Bottom row is all pinks, reds, purples, next up oranges and yellows, next is greens, next is turquoises and blues, then the neutrals on top. I have lovely rainbow bins!
Oh, and the sharpies/bic markits are in the cans on top. In rainbow order, of course.
Ladies do any of you have the Prismas? I am wondering how these compare? I have the entire line of Prisma colored pencils but am tempted to buy these too.
Thanks for yoyr responses.
Blessings.
Just remember that odorless doesn't mean odor-free or safe. It means that it is less volatile than the other kind. It still gives off vapors that are harmful.
One of my colored pencil books lists several options for solvents to blend your oil-based (like polychromos, polycolor, Pablo) or wax-based (like prismacolor premier and verithin, colorsoft, luminance) pencils.
Bestine rubber cement thinner (stinky!)
Odorless turpentine substitutes
Isopropyl alcohol
Mineral oil
Bleach
Lighter fluid
Vodka or Gin
Rocket fuel
The author says any type of solvent works!
I never knew I could count this as a craft supply. sweet!
I went on a stamping cruise several years ago and the group leader had forgotten to bring alcohol to use in some alcohol ink techniques. One of the ladies had smuggled gin aboard ship disguised as mouthwash. She graciously donated (sacrificed) the "mouthwash" to the class to be for our artistic endeavors. LOL
Meg, have you ever tried using mineral oil or baby oil?
I remember one time someone using laundry detergent to blend something - that was a while ago.
Nope. I am just now beginning to experiment. I have some gamsol that I haven't tried... if that bothers me, I could certainly try baby oil, I know that doesn't bother my nose.

I bought them for water coloring and even though I new they dried permanent I didn't consider that you'll have limited blending abilities. I'm sorry that I bought the Inkense pencils since I have and love my Prismas and didn't need anymore.
The advantage to Inktense is for mixed media since they are permanent they don't bleed when adding mediums.
