I already have a cricut that I barely use. I am not really into die cut shapes, but I bought it for the alphabets so that I could do headlines for scrapbook pages. I love it for that! I just hate to spend the big $$ on the cartridges and don't want all of my pages to have the same look. That is why I don't use it very often.
Now, I have fallen in love with dry embossing! I am not too fond of the light table stylus method because I find it hard to do over large areas. So, anywho, would the big shot be worth it for the textures. It seems like a lot to spend on a machine to do embossing. I would not spend the $$ on the alphabets because I can use the cricut to make different sizes....
What are your thoughts. Anyone out there use it for texturizing only?
I have both the Cricut and the Bigshot and I use them daily. I recommend the Bigshot because I gave my regular Sizzix Machine to my niece and got the cuttlebug and then I also got the Bigkick. After using all 3, I sold them and bought the SU! Bigshot and I just love it. You can use any die with it and I recently bought the Texturz kit and love it. I found a video on youtube that you could check out for embossing. Just wait for it to load all the way through and skip to the 4 minute mark. HTH

The Big Shot is great for embossing - you can look for it on sale. (I got mine at Ritz Camera, for about $65).
For your Cricut, if you get the Sure Cuts a Lot software, you would be able to cut titles using all your TrueType fonts and dingbats. You can get a lot of fonts for free. The cost of the SCAL (Sure Cuts a Lot) is less than the regular price of one cartridge - and allows you to cut an infinite number of fonts. The program is very easy to use, and works on both Windows and Mac computers.
No info on Big Shot from me, but as for your cricut, you need to find a cricut buddy or two and share cartridges. Take it to your next crop and you will be swarmed with other cricut-ters who want to share or check with your LSS and see which cartridges they have for use in the store. Get that baby out and use it every day like those ladies on the infomercials!

The Big Shot is awesome. I have Cricut also and like you, I don't use it all that much. But I do use my Big Shot and I'm glad I got it. It's really versatile and you can use so many different things with it, even from other companies (Nestabilities, Cuttlebug, etc.). You can use it with other materials like chipboard. Love it!

I have the Original and the BigKick. I thought the BigKick and Bigshot were the same, just different colors. I see you sold your BigKick for the Bigshot. Is there is a difference?
There's no difference except for the style and color. I believe the Bigkick was manufactured by Sizzix and Bigshot by Ellison. I wanted the SU! black and white one that's why I sold the Bigkick.

But I am looking for something for my Birthday....And dh would be getting it for me.
I think I would use the Bigshot more than I would the Cricut. Cause I use one when I go to my friends house once amonth. And I usually made a few things using the dies or using the Cuttlebug embossing folders.
Could you please tell me what the Bigshot can do that the Cuddlebug can't? I get so confused with all these choices? I thought you could use all these dies in the Cuttlebug as well? Thanks for any info.
The Big Kick does not have as tall a handle sticking up, so you get a better spot for gripping while you crank with the Big Shot. The darker color of the Big Shot also doesn't show all the glitter/glue/mess as well as the white platform on the Big Kick! I know, I am a messy stamper, but I want my machine to look nice!
I believe I read that the Bug can not cut through thicker materials like the Big Shot can. The new folders for Big Shot will be larger than Bug folders.
Thanks so much for the info! I have the cuddlebug and use it a lot with the nesties and folders, but I was just wondering the Big Shot did something I didn't know, hate to be out of the loop on something big you know! I guess I never use anything thicker than cardstock so not too concerned about anything thicker!
Hi, I don't own a Cuttlebug and I don't know anything about it, but I have had the Big Shot for about 5 years since it was first released and I love it. It is very versatile and easy to use. All sizes of Sizzix products of course work as well as Spellbinders, Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders, Quikcutz, and BossCut. You can also cut your own chipboard shapes, fabric, felt, metal sheets, etc...
I hope this helps!
Thanks,
Mona

i hadn't thought about that...
staying tuned, SCS is THE information highway for stamping!
I have a Cricut and love it! It has made my sticker letters obsolete. I like that I can cut letters/titles in any paper and various sizes. I also have the software for it and only use it with the software. I love being able to weld the letters together. I am thinking of getting the Big Shot b/c I want to emboss with it.
I think the Cuttlebug will work with the majoriety of other dies. Except I've heard that the XL Bigz dies (the ones that are really long)--that the cutting plate that goes with those dies is a bit too wide to fit through the Cuttlebug. There is some jury-rigged method though of using double regular cutting plates or something that I read somewhere.
Well I bought the Big Kick about a year ago just for the reason you stated - I wanted to do the dryembossing backgrounds. However, not that I've fallen in love with felt, I'm using my stuff I had bought when the sizzix first came out and making felt flowers, leaves, tags etc. I bet if you look around at various websites market places you could find people that are sellling their dies now that they have the electronic machines.
I got a Cricut last year for a holiday gift. I originally like you only wanted to do the alphabets. I found a sale w/$29 cartridges last year and got several alphas that have the option of more than 1 font. I also go the solutions cartridge Home Accents and now am into making the shapes from it in vinyl.
My point is they are both great machines with differernt purposes and I like them both alot. I don't have the paitence to use the BigKick with the alphabets anymore. I don't feel like changing the die and rolling through etc..love the cricut for that.
I love my Bigshot, and use it most days, I have loads of dies ought for a few 's of ebay, i tend to watch the going now and buy in the last few mins that way i get it cheap. http://www.sizzix.com/campaigns/Clearance/12
After much researching between the cuttlebug and big shot I decided big shot was the machine for me - and lucky me got it for Christmas. I just LOVE it. Chose the big shot over the cuttlebug because of some reviews I had read that implied the big shot was much more durable.
I recommend going to youtube and watching videos of each of them. I found the big shot looked like it was much easier to operate and much smoother too.
I'm sure you will love either one though. Since I've gotten mine, I have used it for EVERY card I have made so far. Nesties and embossing folders are my favourite!
I had the cuttlebug and the big shot. I jsut sold my cuttlebug....hardly ever used it....however, I use my big shot all of the time. I love it. It is just so much eaiser to me. One multiuse platform with simple instructions....no guessing what plates to use with what dies. It is more stable and just overall easier to use in my opinion.
