For white - I've been really pleased with the GP paper from Wal-Mat (next to office supplies). I also have some PTI but have mainly hoarded it up until now.
For colored - I love the PTI Perfect Match cs. (and ribbons!)
I'm getting som SU cs with this month's order since I want to start participating in challenges and it seems like this is what is mainly used. But most everyone seems to like them too
Now my only problem is how to use all that cs from Michaels that was "such a great deal." Good luck!
I like SU and Papertrey because they're both a good weight, the colors are great, and they offer matching accessories like ribbons and ink. I think most people have recommended these two when others have asked, although some also like Bazzill. As far as white, both SU and Papertrey's white take ink beautifully, although Papertrey's is much heavier than SU's. In my opinion, you couldn't really use SU's white as a card base - it's too flimsy because it's not the same weight as their colored cardstock.
For a card base, if you are looking at stiffness, you only want Papertreyink, IMHO.
If you want premade cards in smaller sizes, you should look at Amuse Arts
For layers and other colored cardstock, you cannot go wrong with Stampin Up and Prism. However, if you want automatic color coordination, Stampin Up is tops. SU has the widest range of colors that coordinate with markers, embellishments, watercolor crayons, pastels, inks, and patterned papers, etc.
Papertreyink recently started a line of colored cardstock that also has coordinating Palette inks and ribbons and patterned paper. Luscious stuff, but at the moment its selection of colors is limited and the line doesn't include markers, pastels, brads, etc.
So much stuff!

Stampin up all the way except I do also use papertrey white. Would not use anything else. Gave all my Joanns and Michaels paper to the kids to have a hayday with and believe me it was tons. I learned my lesson the hard and expensive way.
These are the only two I use. I've been disappointed with the flimsiness of the other ones I've gotten. Granted, I haven't tried them all. SU and Bazzill are both 80# weight, so they are very comparable to each other. Try out the Bazzill Bling for your superspecial cards! Dianne

Really, because I got some GP once and absolutely hated it! The ink bled horribly, leaving my images with feathered edges. When I can't use the SU! Whisper White, I reach for Hammermill Color Copy in the 90-lb weight. I buy it at a chain distributor called Frank Parsons Express. It's the only non-SU! white cardstock I've found that even comes close as far as stamped image quality, and the slightly heavier weight easily holds up when I'm using lots of layers!

I also recently got some GP and thought it was VERY flimsy (I did get the 110# but it felt more like the 65# stuff by Worldwin that we carry in our store). I am awaiting some of the PTI white (plus other stuff  ) so hopefully i will like that better!
Almost all SU, though I want to try the Papertrey white. I have used GP and it is good for layers sometimes, but not for a card base. I also like Cryogen White (which is the same as SU Shimmery White) and Poison Ivory. They make great card bases. I gave all my Michael's paper to my 10-year-old little girl, but she got so good she got rid of it and bought her own SU paper!

Huh! What ink did you use? I have only used it with Palette hybrid inks. But it takes it well and there's little to no smearing with Copic coloring. I never would have thought to buy it except several posters mentioned it in a Copic remorse/smearing thread .... oh well
For people who like Prism - where do you buy it? TIA!
I must be the only card maker that does not like Papertrey White cardstock. It is too thick and resembles cardboard. I still like SU Wisper White, all their neutrals such as confetti white and kraft. I also love SUs line of coordinating cardstock, ribbon, brads etc., etc.
Marco's Paper for me. I love their Cougar brand white & cream, their glossy white and a lot of their other brands. They have a really large choice & must be felt, looked at and used before you can really appreciate them. I've purchased Bazzil, Stampin' Up, Close To My Heart & I always come back to Marco's.

I'm a major fan of Prism cardstock. It's what I use almost all the time. The texture is delicious and it's easy to stamp on (unlike Bazzill or that type.) The colors are contemporary. All around cool paper.

Naaaah. Of course you're not!
Everybody, and I mean *everybody*, has preferences; and that's why it's good there are a variety of companies that make papers so we can buy what we likes!
Choice! It's all good. ;)

I like Prism too. The colors are just so yummy.

Even tho they list the weight as the same, sometimes when you feel it, and you have both in your hand to compare right on the spot, one will feel like a certain weight, and the other not.
That drives me crazy, so I only buy paper if I can actually touch/handle it. I'm picky paper person, I guess!

Check out your school art department, kindergarten, etc. With all the cutbacks, those teacher will "LOVE" you for helping them out...
I'm with JoAnn...........SU forever! I just love the quality and the way it all coordinates. I'm not a bazzil kind of person. I like mine to be smooth and then I dry emboss some of it. Can't tear myself away from SU. I've tried others and back I go.
