This subject probably has been covered in the past but my daughter asked me to find out which is the best black ink that dries fast and won't bleed for watercoloring. Thanks.
My favorite black ink is Ranger's Archival Jet Black. It's waterproof, smearproof and fadeproof. And as a dye based ink, it dries instantly. I have been using this brand for at least 5 years and I wouldn't switch to another brand for any amount of money.
I love using my Palette Noir Black Ink Pad, I also use the Memento Tuxedo Black. They both work great, but I can get a crisper image with the Palette ink.

I think it's interesting you said that about Memento Ink because I always hear everyone saying how much they love it and yet it seems like whenever I use it I don't get a crisp image. I don't know, lol.

This is the brand I like best too for watercoloring. I have Stazon black too, but I find it will smear sometimes.
Archival Jet Black does not smear. Great ink.
I'm also an India ink lover. I bought it at a show about 8 years ago and love it. It's the only black that I use - I love the fact that it does not stain either.
I find it at Sunday Int'l.

Memories has Black India, too, but not sure if it really is india ink, or if it is a color name. Does anyone know! Shipping for inkpad and refill from Sunday Intl is $8.95, and don't need/want anything else. Found the Memories at a site that charges less shipping.'
I've used Memories and India Ink. Both work great. A retired art teacher, who now owns a stamping store, recommended the India Ink. It dries instantly, so no chance of smearing.
Inkerbelle, I'm with you and the Memories Black ink. It is the only black I use unless I want to emboss. I just love it and find it works well on all surfaces. Have been tempted to try the ranger archival, but can't find it at my LSS (ha! it's 70 miles away) or Michaels or anywhere. Anyone have any suggestions if I actually want to try something other than Memories?
I adore Versafine for watercoloring. It is my favorite ink. Its dark, opaque and inks rubber and clear stamps beautifully. I've been told its perfect for watercoloring because its oil based so the stamp lines repell the water slightly and this keeps the lines crisp and clear. I just know I love to use it
But it does not work with Copics because its oil base smears with the alcohol. For Copics I use Memento.
The don't make reinkers for Versafine pads. I've checked the manufacturer's website. That website, as well as many that sell the pads, state that the pads last 3 - 5 times longer and no reinkers are needed.

Wow that is so strange because I'm looking at my Versafine Inker, 82 Oynx Black refill bottle. It cost $8.00 for 0.5 fl. oz. I bought it this year but where I can't remember. Perhaps the refills have been discontinued.
Thanks for the info. I had searched the net, to no avail, so thought I'd ask the experts on SCS!! I just searched again, and so many sites say "no inkers needed." Guess I'll just buy a new ink pad - it didn't last 3 to 5 years, but maybe that's because I use it ALL the time!!

Weird. I had checked when I first bought my pad, because I'm ocd that way. So, I was kind of excited to see the post that said they had them now but as I said I looked all those places... So, I'll look again, 'cause I"d be happy to have one.

Subject: RE: Ink Questions - Versafine
Hello,
We now carry Versafine reinkers. Iam sorry to hear that you are having problems finding our reinkers.. Two companies that carry 80% of our product are as follows:
Help?! I've spotted this thread because I'm trying to use Memento Tuxedo black on watercolour paper with watercolour pencils and a blender pen. It's bleeding like crazy and yet some of you have said it's waterproof. Am I doing something wrong? Is it the watercolour paper that's the problem? Should I be letting it dry longer? What is the best cardstock for watercolouring? I really don't like the texture or colour of the watercolour paper anyway. Will do another search on that one, but any help would be much appreciated.

I tried it and memento ran until I heat set it. I don't use memento ink for watercoloring - I prefer India Ink Black.
Also, I use just a water and paintbrush, not a blender pen for watercoloring.
Cardstock doen't hold up well for watercoloring - you can buy smooth watercolor paper.
I'm attaching a link to a watercolor booklet for one of my classes - maybe it has some info that will help you.

Do you shake when you stamp? When I use Memento, it will give me a slightly fuzzy image if I wiggle at all, so I have to remind myself to not wiggle it! I think the ink is a bit juicier and maybe sits higher on top of the stamp than some others and that's why it'll sometimes cause a fuzzy line if you move.
