I have the adtech and a tombow The adtech seems to unstick after a day or so My tombow the new style I can't seem to find the refills local so thought about the pink atg. I was astonished at HL when I saw these are $40 is that the right price? I know I have a 40% coupon but really. so my question... is it worth it and what is the best price around?
There is a difference between the red ATG (Adhesive Transfer Gun) and the pink ATG (Advanced Tape Glider), and not just the names: the red one is geared toward industrial use and the pink one more for crafters. And there is a difference in the roller mechanisms.
I don't have the pink version, but I do have the red one, and that is one item I would NOT want to be without in my craft room.
Plus if you get the tape from The Tape Depot, you'll save even more. I've used both the 3M tape and the tape from The Tape Depot, and can't tell a difference except in price.

I have the Pink ATG - $40 sounds like the right place for Hobby Lobby/Michaels; when I got mine the regular price was $29.99 and I used a 50% off coupon. I know that Thanksgiving weekend Michaels had them on sale for $19.99 with an extra %off coupon where the final price came to about $14. So definitely shop around.
And I am so glad that I bought it! There is so much more tape on a refill roll than on any of the other runners I'd used and the tape holds better. I ordered a dozen rolls from Tape Depot and they were only a little over $2.00 a roll. Lots of cards can be made from a single refill!

I got mine @ Mike's with the 40% off coupon, so it was around $22.00. I might be the only person who is not a huge fan of ATG's. On top of NOT loving it my Mike's doesn't keep the tape stocked consistently. I use it because I invested in it.

Santa brought me a pink ATG (picked it up for the black friday price $12-14 after all coupons and discounts). He's so thrifty;)
I opened it a a month ago. I know, sad that I had a new toy that sat untouched for so long. I was hesitant, as the size of the dispenser was a bit daunting. And, I was intimidated by the coordination needed to squeeze and release the trigger I thought it was going to push the limits of my abilities. However, I like it. I am pleasantly surprised by that, too.
My Girl Scouts made displays for a 100th Anniversary celebration using those tri-fold science fair type boards using my gazillion Mono-adhesive applicators. After the girls completed their project, I noticed things kept falling off the boards. I thought they had not used enough mono. But no, if anything they applied plenty and then some. But, the Tombow wasn't up to the task. Did anybody know that there is some sort of coating on the boards? It is rather slick. So, I pulled out the pink ATG and crossed my fingers. It saved the day. Weeks later and the boards are still holding strong.
I did not know there was a difference between the red and pink version ATG. I thought the pink was just an Oct/breast cancer awareness thing. But, I did think it odd to see so many on the shelves in late Nov. I have a little more mono to use up, but I think I will switch to buying the ATG refills from now on. And I may have to look into whether or not I need a red one too.
It took me a long time to jump on the ATG wagon - too long, in fact. The first one I bought was an ATG50 from The Tape Depot. It was $25, and I loved it. Then I bought the pink one from Michael's. When they first came out, they were $19.99; and with a 40% off coupon, I paid only $12 for it. (Then they went up to $24.99, $29.99, and now $39.99!) I love my ATGs. I still use my small Tombow when I just need a little bit of adhesive in a very small area.
The pink gun and the red gun are essentially the same. I think the red one is made of plastic that is a little heavier than the pink one.
I love my Pink ATG and the really economical tape from The Tape Depot! In Canada, the regular price at Michaels is a whopping $54.99, so still expensive with a 40% off coupon. I ordered mine from Custom Crops when they first came out for well under $25. Shop around. As others said, you might be able to find it online cheaper than locally in store.

$40 is right, but worth it.
I use a lot more adheasive with the snail tape than the ATG. It really holds great, and I would die if something fell off a card after I gave it to someone!!
Good for you to get it! It is such a good price that I got one also even though I already own the red one (have had it for several years now and still love it). Now, however, I can keep the pink one loaded exclusively with acid-free tape. My red one has tape that is not acid-free and I use it on my cards. Well worth the expense! Have fun with it.
I love my Pink ATG! except for the fact my Mikes doesnt always have the refills. Actually they typically only stock the Acid Free, instead of General purpose. So I order my refills online. But I bought my ATG at Mikes with a 50% coup on one of those special days where you get the extra %% off as well.
Love love love my ATG! I only make cards so I buy the general purpose tape. After a visit to 2 Michaels and both out of refills, I ended up buying 10-2 packs for $30 w/ free shipping! I got tired of using my beloved coupons on it anyway. I am set for a while.
Also one of the people that know this was one of my BEST investments for my paper crafting hobby. I calculated that I had spent almost $60 on adhesive in the first few months of starting card making. Used one of these ATG guns in a class and vowed never to buy one but as they say 'never say never'. When I first saw it, I was intimated by its size but the way it is designed, you don't notice after you have used it awhile. There is a learning curve because you have to coordinate when to squeeze the trigger and when to lift up but eventually, it becomes automatic. I would be LOST without it!
I have one and have had nothing but trouble with it It is laying in a box taking up space. The tape is horrible on them.
This might be the particular tape roll you have. There was a batch of rolls that weren't wound properly or something. I've got one and it is a PITA sometimes.
But my first few rolls were fantastic so I know I just have some from the faulty batch.
They really aren't hard to use normally. My left handed 9 year old (8 when I got it) has made it her go to glue. It is always being stolen from my office.

I have the red 714, and I love it. I did have a backwards roll once, but I found out online how to fix it. (can't remember now!) Right now I have a roll that came unattached from its center- so it comes out regardless of if I have the trigger pushed. I pry will use it anyways. BUT. those two bad rolls are from 2 boxes from the tape depot- so 24 total. not too bad I thought.
I have the red one and the pink one and LOVE them! Can't do a card without them! My friend and I had issues with all of the refills we bulk bought from the Tape Depot so we will go back to the Scotch brand ordered from 3MATGTape
I spray painted my red 714 with Krylon Plastic paint in a color I liked. You have to cover the moving parts because you don't want to paint them so they don't move. It's been painted several years and still isn't showing the red plastic. I did spray it with several coats and lay it on a non-abrasive surface when not in use. It really wasn't hard and I like the color soo much better.
Myfriend said she saw a tutorial on decorating them. So far I have only personalized mine with stamping on it with Stazon so I know which one is mine when I go craft at a friends
I've seen a tutorial on decorating the cardboard insert that came with it, you can cut out the shape on any cardstock and put it in there. I found it to be a pain not being able to see how much tape is left on the roll without opening the gun. I do love the spray paint idea!
The absolute BEST thing for adhesive! The only time I use anything else is when the piece needing to be adhered is too small for the width of the tape, like small die cut letters. It's soooo economical compared to anything else out there and sticks like crazy.
This is one of my very favorite tools. I got to stamp shops and people look at me and say there is no way they could manage something that large. Wrong! It's really easy to use. So much more economical to restock the tape with. I used to have lots of problems with the other tape dispensers' tape ungluing a week or two after I put the card together. Never, never have that problem with this tape. It really sticks.
I buy my refills at either M's or J's, I just use the coupon or pick up 2 or 3 when they're on sale. A lot of time I go to the stores looking to buy something with the coupon and simply walk out with the tape.
I use my Pink ATG for scrap booking, cards, crafting and to seal envelopes. Yesterday, I used it to seal 125 wedding invitations for our son's upcoming wedding. Sure beats licking that many envelopes shut.
I did decorate mine. I added pretty paper and some bling.
Tamidolphin - where on Youtube is the video? I've only had my gun a short time, but I'm on the first refill that I put in myself. Tried to follow the steps/instructions that came with it, but must not have done it right as it seems to be rolling back on itself. Thanks for any help.

I have an ATG. I was not too crazy about it. I was able to align it. I am left handed. The tape, when it worked, was ok. Even though I followed all the instructions and practiced till I was blue in the face my tape still came out gunky. Off to the tool shed the ATG went. Then I had a big project to work on. All I am seeing are dollar bill signs as I use my double sided tape. The ATG came back in the home. More gunky tape and now it's all melty looking too.
Last night at Michael's I was telling my DH that some of the girls have posted the tape in the first ATG guns was bad. Asked my DH if that could be the problem? My DH said it wouldn't hurt to try new tape. I am thinking it quite would. I don't care if I have a 50% coupon and the tape is only $3.00. I can buy a tube of watercolor paint with my coupons. I used my coupon on the tape.
Wow, what a difference it made. My gun is behaving now. The tape is working wonderfully. I am one happy ATG user now. I wish when I bought the gun I wasn't so stubborn and didn't think it was the tape. I practically live behind 3M so you would think my area wouldn't get defective tape. I mean 3M has to live here, lol. Nope, we got defective tape. I think Michael's was the first store to feel the pain.
I've been using the Glue Glider Pro for several years-since AdTech changed their formula :(. I'm very happy with the results, but I still go thru refills like they're water. Even with coupons, I'm spending a fortune for adhesive. I know, maybe I should just slow down on my card crafting, right? But it's my THERAPY. And I feel like I have several months of crafting to make up for since I didn't make a thing while I was taking chemo treatments. I was looking at the Pink ATG at Joann's last week and am seriously considering getting it. I work at Js so with sales, coupons, & employee discounts, I'd never have to pay full price for refills. Any reason I shouldn't go for it?

This is exactly why I got the pink one as I do this too! I haven't really noticed any difference between the pink one and the red one though. Love them both

I love the Glue Glider Pro. I love how small it is. You just glide it across the paper. No handle to push. I also like you can buy the cartridges that turn when your applying the glue so you can get into hard corners. I like you can just use a tiny bit at a time. Also love how you can turn the cartridge around when not in use so your adhesive is not sticking on everything when you store the gun. The ATG is hard to store, least for me.
I understand what your saying. The cost is outrageous. It's double the amount of a regular glue runner for practically the same amount of tape. ATG is a lot more frugal and cost effective. Since you have the great discounts the ATG would even be more frugal. I say buy one and see if you love it. There is a learning curve with this gun, no matter what anyone says. I picked it right up because I know how to frame. If I didn't I would probably be covered in tape.
I did read over here that somebody was refilling their GGP with the ATG tape like from tape depot. You couldn't do it with the tape that is sold at JoAnn's or Michael's because it's more like double sided tape. The OP was rolling the tape manually on their GGP. I thought that was brilliant. I was going to try it. I am a big daredevil so I am not afraid, lol. I keep thinking I will muck it up horribly and have a glue mess that would scare me.
