My Prismacolors I ordered just arrived today...that's the good news. The "bad" news is that they are not sharpened. What's the best Pencil Sharpener to use on these? :-) LM

Hmmm...not sure. I just used the one that came in my package. I ended up with a blister to show for my efforts, but it worked great.
I also use the sharpener that came with my set. I've seen posts on here where some have used an electric sharpener with good results as well.
The sharpening process didn't take all that long and was quite relaxing! I suggest sitting with a nice cup of coffee, tea or beverage of choice and sharpening away! : )
In high school my are treacher insisted we use an exacto knife to kind of whittle off the wood because in his opinion it leaves more of the color in tact. The main reason I still do this is force of habit. I also only sharpen as I need a color instead of sitting down and doing them all at once. The outsides match the insides so can can still see what I'm looking for.
I used a kind of expensive electric sharpener with lousy results. It was like the pencil didn't fit into the opening very well so it either shredded it or didn't do anything at all. I think the old fashioned kind are the best.
I used the one that came with them for the most part, but I purchased the travel one from prisma to take when we are traveling. It's black and looks kind of like a pointy egg plus it was fairly inexpensive.
Hmmm...I did NOT receive a sharpener with the set I bought. So do you think I need to buy a Prismacolor Pencil Sharpener, or will any work? TIA! :-) LM
If you have an art store nearby, prismacolors has a sharpener with their name on it. I assume that is the company endorsed one. I use a small metal sharpener. Key is to get a good sharp blade. The brand name on it is Staedtler. It was only a couple bucks. It's all metal and heavy compared to it's counterparts (those cheaper plastic dollar store items). For a couple bucks more I could have gotten the same metal sharpen inside a plastic case to catch the shavings. I didn't bother.
Even if you don't have an art store nearby, try a JoAnns or Michaels and go to the color pencil area and look for sharpeners in that area.
I was at a convention once and Terry Medaris was there (phenomenal artist with Priismacolor pencils NOT using the OMS technique). His Prisma's have a super sharp point so I asked him the specific kind of sharpener that he used. He uses this Panasonic...so worth the money! I used to get broken "lead" all the time with every other sharpener that I used...this one totally rocks!

Yup...that's the one I use, too, and it's awesome. No broken leads, which I used to get all the time with the Exacto sharpener I have. Panasonic has discontinued that model, though, so get them while you can!
