Default Alternative cutting mat for Coluzzle

I have always used the cutting mat made for the Coluzle - white foamy mat. Mine is all cut up. Can anyone recommend an alternative? My self healing mat just does not work as well. I just can not find an original replacement locally.
THanks

I think you need the Coluzzel one to make it work. Try http://store.crazyscraps.com/index.html they have all kinds of templates and the replacement mats are reasonable.

Have you tried any type of flat, styrofoam? I know the Coluzzle mat is pretty unique, but I think whatever you use needs to be easy (soft) to cut in to.

I've heard that you HAVE to have the Coluzzle cutting mat to make it work properly ... yes, Michaels does have them ... good luck finding one soon! They are available online all over the place too.

There is a packing foam that is very similar to the Coluzzle cutting pad, but not as thick. I've never tried using it, but have always thought that in a pinch I would use two sheets of it stacked underneath the template. I'd be sure to use a self healing mat underneath that, just in case the knife blade went through (not to damage the surface below).

HTH!

I've wondered if you could use 2-3 sheets of fun foam, with a mat underneath as well. I haven't tried it myself, though.

Dang it, the site listed above was out of all but one of the coluzzle templates I wanted. And for one template it isn't worth the shipping. Saved it to my favorites for future browsing.

You do *have* to have the coluzzle mat to make it work, soemthing about it it helps makes the blade "slide".

I wouldn't consider it, myself. Fun foam is a very different texture and consistency from the Coluzzle mats. Considering they are so inexpensive and last forever before they need replacing, I will always stick with the brand name mats, and have two on hand for 'just in case.'

Another thing I do, since I don't have any of the bigger templates where I would need the whole cutting foam underneath, (the majority of the time I just use the circle/oval template) I cut the sheet in 1/2, so I could use one until I needed to replace, and then pull out the other half........

I have tried the underlay from our laminate flooring, it's the same kind of stuff but not as thick. The Coluzzle mat is fairly inexpensive and works the best.

I forgot in a pinch while waiting for my new mats to be delivered (I ordered two), I used a piece of styrofoam, the problem was it dulled my blade super quickly and I had to replace the blade. With the mat it is suppose to be used with, I had probably made over 100 cuts and not had to change the blade

Don't know if that would work, but it would certainly be worth a try. Especially since I almost always have some pieces of fun foam around.
