Default Adhesive case study

This card shows assembly attempt 2. the first one involved an old elmers dot runner & old, nameless adhesive foam that needed to be glued on both sides. with this attempt i used my scotch atg gun to try to tape down the flat layers (not too succesfully as you can see in the upper left corner) & to tape down the fun foam that i used for dimension. the only adhesive i liked was the for the center bit of spirelli, scotch permanent adhesive dots, except that they lose their shape as you lift them off the packaging paper & try to place them on the project. i like my xyron sticker maker but it seems wasteful to me to use it for every project that would fit in it. ditto for double-sided adhesive sheets. i have tried many different flat adhesives & dimensional adhesives & i dont want to spend more money to add more ineffective items to my collection. can you recommend adhesives that are relatively simple to apply, that stick long-term & dont need to be applied on every tiny scrap of the project in order to hold it together and/or provide even dimension? is there a product like fun tack (the blue sticky stuff my teachers used to hold up posters) that comes presized into little bits and/or will hold its shape when handled? are their dimensional dots that are really sticky on both ends & wont dry up within a few months? all ideas or user recommendations are greatly appreciated!

For dimension you can get sheets of pre-cut adhesive foam squares. But my favourite is Pinflair Glue Gel. I'm in the UK but I believe you can get it elsewhere. Do NOT be tempted to use ordinary silicon as it will cause greasy marks to seep through your card, maybe days after you have done it. Pinflair Glue Gel with a syringe is the way to go for dimension.

For flat sticking of card I usually use double sided tape. Again, for ease of use do not get the cheap brands, they do not work or peel so well, Sookwang is a good make.

My tip would be to make sure you go past the edges with any tape, and then trim back. I too agree about Pinflair Glue gel, it's extremely good, and with DST, along with the pre-made foam pads. They are all my go-to's. Regarding the glue dots- I find they stay flat if you press the tape with the dot on onto your project, then peel the tape off, leaving the dot behind, rather than trying to peel the dot off the tape first. They do tend to roll up then.

thank you for all the tips! do you recommend pinflair's adhesives in general or just their glue gel in particular? is there a specific brand of adhesive foam pads that you can reccomend for its long-term real stickiness? thanks!

I only have the Glue Gel from Pinflair so cannot comment on any other. For a 'wet' glue that is repositionable I use Collal foto glue, it also rubs off where h don't want it. Probably any photo glue would work ok?

I highly recommend getting this big roll of Scotch double sided foam tape. It is wonderful for attaching items to provide dimension. The roll is huge and is a great buy, compared to the cost of other foam-type dimensionals.

You can easily cut it to any size you need, and it holds very well. I recently got this roll and just love using it.

For general all-purpose adhesive, like layers on cards, I use my ATG gun, For tiny pieces that are too small to use the tape gun, I use Tombow Mono-Multi liquid in the green and white bottle. A few dots go a long way and it holds really well. For dimension, I use the Scotch tape above.

For adhering items like buttons, I use some clear adhesive squares that I got at Dollar Tree a long time ago. I bought every package they had, and I don't know what I will do when they run out, lol.

I use double sided tape similar to the sookwang tape that seems popular in the states (with the release backing).
I have to say for dimensional tape I use cheap pads from the shop, but also like the stick it 3d foam pads that docrafts sell.
I think the best cretions pads are popular in the states.

One of my biggest fears is sending a card or giving a 3D project that falls apart. I generally use my ATG gun for my card making, however a friend got me into Glossy Accents and that is always within close reach. I started using it when I started paper piecing and now I use it for the little pieces or larger pieces that need to stay put! I also use the glossy accents on eyes, glasses, wings ~ anything that you want to give it a little 3D effect. It also dries fairly quick unless your using it on eyes and such. I generally complete the card then add it on the eyes (or whatever) last and let it sit overnight then in the morning I put it in the envelope to send off.

OH! And if anyone tries the glossy accents I did see a video on YouTube that a lady used a baby bottle nipple, the silicone ones, and you never have to worry about using a pin to open the hole up again after use. Sorry I cant remember her name but it's what I use now and the glue is always ready to go!

Thanks, Joeknee - I had read the same advice about the silicone nipples and bought a package. Naturally by the time I got them home I'd forgotten the purpose for them! I'm so thankful I have the time to read the SCS forums - they always contain something of importance to me!

Just a word of warning about the baby bottle teat and glue. You have to be very careful with this idea. Once the glue dried a bit and I squeezed too hard to get it to flow -- result glue all over me and my craft table. Then another time I thought I had left a little bit of glue to seal the hole but I hadn't and my whole bottle of glue dried into one solid lump. When it worked it was great but just be careful !!!!

I like all of the glues by Glue Arts. They make a great adhesive gun but it's smaller than the big one by 3-M. I use the Perma tac and extreme tac. They make two sizes of glue dots. But glue dots will always warp if you try to take them off the paper. For best results, apply the item to the dot, THEN take it off the backing paper.

For liquid adhesive, I like Multi medium Matte and Glossy accents by Ranger. There isn't anything like blue tack stuff that's used on walls. That is temporary and for most of card making you want permanent and less bulky results.

Liquid glue: Zip Dry for everything. It rolls off with finger rub if it gets where it's not supposed to be. I tried Tombow Mono Multi, but it doesn't roll off. I have to use a glue eraser for that. Scotch Double Sided tape is always at hand, too.
I have used Scotch Foam Mounting Tape for a long time, but I noticed with my last purchase that the tape is more narrow than before...not really 1/2 inch wide. After watching Jennifer McGuire's video on Fun Foam I have been using it, and sticking to cards with Zip Dry. I hope it lasts...I just sent a huge box to Operation Write Home with lots of Foam on cards.
DON'T Use anything like Fun Tack...it is oil based and will leave grease on your paper.

Like Bugga, I too use my ATG gun, and for dimension, the 3M Scotch Double Sided Foam Tape. Recently, for large, full card attachments, I've been trying the fun foam, which works great. For a liquid glue need, it depends on the need..... If it's for glueing embellishments, etc., one I can really count on to hold is Best Glue Ever by Scraperfect. You can use it for everything, but I tend to be selective on what I use it on. It drys fast and works the best, even on those intricate cuts!!!! Love it!! If you want the glossy look on something, then it's Diamond Glaze or Glossy Accents.

I would never have guessed I'd have so many glues!!!!!!
