Default Making your own crocheted flowers

I've had some people request the pattern, so I'll post it here.

I love to crochet, so when I saw the Fleurettes in the new SU catty I wanted to make some. I studied the picture and wrote up my own instructions. This is the first time I've written crochet instructions for someone else to read - I hope they made sense!

Here are samples with 2 of the 3 styles of the flowers:
Mom's Birthday by stamping_KML at Splitcoaststampers
Raquel's Birthday by stamping_KML at Splitcoaststampers
Thank You by stamping_KML at Splitcoaststampers

Flower #1: size 3 hook

Round 1) With white - use magic ring method (http://www.crochetme.com/Dec_Jan_0405/reads_round.html), 15 sc in ring, join with sl st to first sc.

Round 2) Ch 2, sk 2 sc, sl st in next sc, repeat around. Join with sl st to base of first sl st. Finish off. (5 ch 2 sps)

Round 3) With pink in any ch 2 sp, join with sl st, ch 1. (sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc) in each ch 2 sp around. Join with sl st to first sc.

Round 4) Ch 2 (counts as hdc), dc in next st, (2 tr in next st) repeat 2 more times, dc in next st, hdc in next st, * hdc in next st, dc in next st, (2 tr in next st) repeat 2 more times, dc in next st, hdc in next st, repeat from * around. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. Finish off. Weave in all ends.

Flower #2: size 6 hook

Round 1) With white use magic ring method, 12 sc in ring, sl st in front loop of first sc. Finish off.

Round 2) With pink and working this round in front loops only join with sl st in first sc. * Sl st in next sc, and in same st: (ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, sl st), sl st in next sc, repeat from * around. Join with sl st to first sl st. Finish off.

Round 3) With burgundy and working this round in back loops only join with sl st in any sc in the middle of a petal from previous round (so your petals line up), in same st (ch 3, 3 tr, ch 3, sl st), * sl st in next sc, sl st in next sc and in same st (ch 3, 3 tr, ch 3, sl st), repeat from * around. Join with sl st to beginning sl st. Finish off. Weave in all ends.

Flower #3: size 7 hook

Round 1) With rose use magic ring method, 15 sc in ring, join with sl st to first sc.

Round 2) (Ch 2, sk 2 sc, sl st in next sc) repeat around. Join with sl st to base of first ch 2. Finish off.

Round 3) With white, sl st in any ch 2 sp, ch 2, 5 tr, ch 2, sl st in same sp. * Sl st in next ch 2 sp, ch 2, 5 tr, ch 2, sl st in same sp, repeat from * around. Join with sl st to first sl st. Finish off. Weave in all ends.

Did you use yarn or crochet thread to make your flowers? Thanks so much for sharing! I might give one a try with my very limited crochet skills

Default crochet flowers

I just got out my old crochet hooks- I am not sure how to convert to a size 3.... I may have to go buy a new one. Thanks for this info- cannot wait to try this

I have 1.3 mm =size 10
1.65mm=size 7
2.75 mm = sz 1

How do I convert the stitches to my crochet hook size and threat size 8? I imagine if I just play around with it I will figure it out.......

I will post if I can figure it out in the next few days

Thanks
Shelly

Hello!

Size 3 = 2.10 mm

Thread size 8 is close in size to the size 10 that I used. The flowers would be a little different size. You can try making the flowers in different sizes of hooks, to get the size of flower you'd like.

Default crocheted flowers

thank you so much for the pattern. tonight i made 10 of these while watching a one hour program on tv. the pattern was easy and the flowers quite beautiful (if i do say so myself!). i have quite a stash of colors and sizes of thread from the thicker #5 perl cotton to the thinnest #100 cotton thread (this size is thinner than sewing thread). i have picked up these various sizes and colors at garage and estate sales over the years. some of these colors are not manufactured any more, which is sad because they are beautiful colors. my mother's friends also have given me their stashes simply because they cannot see well enough anymore. i love that i am able to incorporate card making with my other passion--crocheting.

Kelly, thanks so much for your comment on my card! That prompted me to visit your gallery where I found your beautiful cards with crocheted flowers, and from there, this thread where you so generously shared your directions for making these flowers. I can hardly wait to get started! Your cards are beautiful! Thanks so much for sharing!

These flowers look great. I can't wait to try them. I just have one question. On your instructions you use the abbreviation "sk". I have never seen that before. What exactly does it mean? Thank you!

OMGosh! I am taking a crochet class on Wed this week!!!!!!!! I am thrilled to have this pattern. Now to figure out what hook sizes are....I have seen in the same display 1-2-3, A B C, and 1.5 - 2.5 mm...all I can say is I am confused. I am sure they will explain this on Wed and now I have a class project! yipppeeee!

Thanks so much for this information. I have patterns for flowers, but it is so helpful to see flowers on cards and know what size crochet hook was used to make them. Your samples are beautiful and inspiring.

I used one of the number 1 pattern on this card that I just uploaded. I think I actually used the backside of the flower, as it had a nice puff to it and worked well for a baby card. Thanks again, Kelly!
