I recently got into making some bows for my DD's hair and discovered a very cool way to treat ribbon so that it stays in a spiral curl...it's called korker ribbon and you can use just regular 100% polyester fabric ribbon to get this effect (i.e. grosgrain, satin, organza--do NOT use craft, floral, or waterproof ribbon).
Wrap your length of ribbon around a wooden dowel (1/4" or 5/16"), secure the ends with wooden clothespins, and bake in a 275 degree oven for 15-25 minutes. After 15 minutes, unwrap the end of one of the ribbons from the dowels to see if it's curly enough for your liking and, if not, put back on dowel and continue baking for up to 25 minutes total (15 minutes is long enough for my oven). Be sure to line your rack with aluminum foil for a clean surface and make sure your dowels are not too close to the "ceiling" of the oven--place your rack in the middle position.
Here are some samples that I made using this curly ribbon:
Thanks for the tip on this neat technique for ribbon. I went to your blog and looked at your projects. Cute, cute kids and the cards and bows are so impressive.

My sister had to make a ton of these for her daughters cheerleading team. I never thought about using it on cards though. What a cool idea, thanks for sharing

I have seen hair bows at craft shows and never knew how they made the ribbon so curly. I think you did a great job using the curly ribbon on your cards.
This is so totally wicked cool...I have always wondered how they do that and have often wanted to ask someone at the craft fairs I go to how they did it...I am a coach for a cheer squad and each year I shell out boo-koo $$ on bows for the squad...this year I will be making them...thanks again!!!
Love your blog also...very cute st. patty's photos...
My daughter is going to thank you for this one! I refuse to pay the price for those barrettes at Gymboree so now I can make her some of her own customized hair clips. Thanks soooo much for the tip!
Wow, I can't believe this thread was unearthed! I just happened to be on my blog changing a few things around and saw that I had a lot of traffic yesterday for some reason--checked to see where it was coming from and it pointed to this thread!
Glad to help you guys out! It's definitely a fun technique!
LOL, that would be me who unearthed it. I'm on a mission to surf through all 500+ technique forums, to bring forward some of the things that have been forgotten. I'm on page 150 now.

 That's quite an ambitious mission! I bet you (re)discover a LOT of cool techniques!

Yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to accomplish. For those that I think are really cool, I'm bringing them back to the forefront so that others can enjoy them as well.
