Just get it out and smoosh it around. Roll it out. Stamp on it. If you don't like the way it comes out, smoosh it again. Use your fingers to smooth out any rough edges.
I love it with Pearl Ex! Just dust over the top after you've stamped on it. Easy and really impressive looking.
I've taken to baking it on old cereal boxes so I don't have to worry about contaminating my bakeware...and I can roll it out right on the carboard so I don't get any distortion transferring it to a cookie sheet.
Besides, the weather's cooling down and you can turn on your oven again
I to have collected the clay for a couple years!! I bought a toaster oven a couple weeks ago for up in my craft room, I was tired of running downstairs all the time.. I was playing around with some last night and made these leaves.. They look much much better in real life..
I have this problem too. I bought Paperclay about a year ago, never opened the package and have noticed that it has expired (who would've thought it would expire?!). I saw some really neat things done with this stuff and am afraid to open it! I have yet to buy polymer clay as I know it will sit too! Same thing with my pearlex!
I am not alone in my silly aversion to clay! What a relief! I thought I was the only one like this!
On the other hand, to those of you who have Pearl Ex but not used - send it to me!!! LOL I love using shimmer spray (mixing 1/4 with cheap hairspray in travel containers and spraying for a nice background and sealant at the same time)...
Thanks so much for making me feel like it is OKAY not to do it all... If HRR is in the same situation, then maybe I can give myself a break and feel like at least I'm in excellent company!
All my best,
Nancy

I do like paperclay--and was so sad when they discontinued it from the catalog . . . :(
Polymer, however, is a different beast and totally intimidates me! Go figure!
Nancy, you are not just in excellent company--but ROYAL company!!! Not to worry, pet! Heh, heh, heh!
Seriously, tho, I can't understand for the life of me, why I buy the stuff when I refuse to even touch it!!!!!! Therefore, I must be a ROYAL MORON! Hah!

What's a girl to do?
If you want to get your feet wet, they sell individual cubes (slabs, blocks, whatever you call a piece of clay...LOL) at most craft store. You can try it out for $1-2. If you like it, then you can buy the whole kit...
Me too! Mee too! I have a problem with anything "messy". Polymer clay, Pearl EX, Polished stone, and the worst.....shaving cream technique!! ( I have to admit, it sure smells good though...ha!)
And the irony of it all......I am NOT in any way....a "Neatnik"!
Explain this one!
I have just decided to do my thing and admire and awe those of you brilliant people who can create those beautiful techniques which are my failing.....alas.

Polymer Clay Aversion
On the fateful day of 10/13/04, Her Royal Rubberness issued a subtly disguised challenge, which meant I felt I HAD to conquer my aversion to polymer clay…The game was afoot. Now that I know I’m not alone it feels more safe to explore possible reasons WHY some have this aversion. I did a google.com search and came up with a mind numbingly large number of results for “polymer clay.? My strategy? Understand and, if possible, conquer the aversion to polymer clay.
Taking the simplistic approach, I tried to go right to explanations of what polymer clay is and what each type is for.
I began to come to the conclusion that I COULD easily do some of these, but probably wouldn’t do most of them. I was beginning to understand my aversion. I looked at a number of the projects – for beginners. IF the instructions are too long and IF the ingredient list is over 4-5 items I don’t already have in my vast storehouse of a craft room, then FORGETTABOUTIT!
I want results. I want embellishments that I can do in less that 10 minutes. I am fickle and get bored with things after I learn them. SO, do I want to invest in a lot of new things just to conquer my aversion or do I recognize I can always wait to try something like this if and when my passion for making cards is assuaged. I still love just stamping and coloring my images.
Thanks for the challenge, Julie, HRR! I may not have conquered my aversion, but I think I understand my aversion to polymer clay a bit better now. As a result I am more comfortable with my choice not to pursue it at this juncture!
All my best,
Nancy

I must concur; now I understand the aversion. I can now ACCEPT my aversion (based on laziness and unwillingness to invest lots of $$$ in something I "may not" enjoy actually doing, i.e. scrapbooking!). And not feel guilty.
I used to go hog wild over fancy techniques and spend all kinds of $$$$. Then, laziness set in, hence my aversion to anything time-consuming. If I can't do it in 10 min. OR hafta buy all kinds of crap just to try it out, FOGETTABOUTIT! You are exactly right!
I'm still LOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOLLOL!
Nail on the head, girlfriend!

I was the same way...but I got brave and made these this weekend. My MIL and GIL and SIL are into pins, so I thought I would add these to their Christmas Gifts, I plan on making a few more different ones too!
Glad I could make you (and hopefully some others) laugh. We are alike in scrapbooking as well, it seems. I have hundreds and hundreds of dollars in scrapbooking expenditures all very neatly organized (and unused) in my craft room.
It has taken me 3 years and only 20 scrapbook pages completed to realize that I just don't like it very much. I'd rather make cards and put my photos in a regular photo album, leaving 1-2 slots open for journaling on a page. Focus on the photos and more $$ for my stamping (including my awesome Albrecht Durer Watercolor pencils from Dick Blick and my ever expanding collection of Twinkling H2Os).
I'm going to rephrase this more positively if I can. I am being more selective or focused in what I do and in my purchases. I will do what I really love and not succumb to pressure to engage in additional/competing activities right now. As cool as they are, I'm not going to buy the Melting Pot stuff either! So there! I now feel empowered!
All my best,
Nancy

I love making embellishments for cards and jewellry using stamps and polymer. Here are some pics of pendants and pins. They are quick and easy gifts too. The leaf one shows how stunning Pearlex looks on the black PC, don't you think?
Cheers
Tilly
I have sat in awe at our craft days ... just staring at everyone as they whipped up gorgeous works of art out of blobs of clay! Everything I tried looked like "Mr. Bill" from Saturday Night Live (back in the 70's)!
Until ... my demo, AEWEAVER (want to make sure I give credit where credit is due) .... Anne rolled out some clay ... got out the Wonderful Words set ... stamped "Love" onto burgudy clay. Using a flat clay knife, she cut around the word very neatly ... baked it in the oven and then used rub and buff! It was smashing! I thought ... I could do that! And one weekend, I made enough for an embellishment swap that I was in and even tried some leaves in the same weekend! Wasn't as impressed with the leaves (that I created, Susie's leaves ARE very impressive), but I really like the clay charms made from the Wonderful Words set.
