Hi all! Well my title says it all....but to explain further I want to make a window with foam and acetate that I can put beads behind as a shaker window. Is this foam already sticky? Where can I find it? Would walmart carry it? Also, is acetate just like an ovehead transparency? thanks in advance!
I just got done making a shaker card! I used scotch foam mounting tape (got it at Walmart). It comes in 1/2 and 1" sizes. I used the 1/2 inch. Acetate is like transparencies, which I don't have right now, so I used a plastic page protector! Worked great.
You can also use the leftover edges from your Stampin' Dimensionals!! It's the right thickness, sticky on both sides, and it's FREE!!!!

I guess I don't quite understand how to make a shaker card. I thought you used an exacto knife to cut the inside out, and then you have a nice square in which to put your beads or whatever inside. I would think you'd need alot of stampin dimensional scraps to fully enclose your beads. That probably didnt' make any sense. Is there a tutorial on here? Maybe I'll do a search, thanks!

After you punch out all of the SU Dimensionals, you are left with the frame of holes that have been punched out. The edges are intact as long strips. Me, I just use 'em just as if they were shaped like the dots, I don't care what they look like, lol! But you can cut the frame apart at the corners and you'll have two longer strips and two shorter strips. Perfect for making the shaker box.
In the framing department of your craft stores you will find double-sided mounting tape on the roll. I find that this is the easiest product to use in making shaker boxes.
The Angel Company had exactly what you are describing in last years catty. They were called "Shaker Shapes" and they came in circles and squares in black or white for $3.95. So sorry that I don't have any more left in my art box to share.

I do have a question, though -- do you have problems with the beads sticking to the sides of the tape that line the frame? It seems no matter what I use, the beads, cutout shapes, etc. get stuck in the sides. Is there a technique so the sticky part of the tape doesn't come in contact with the box contents?
This has been driving me crazy ever since I started making these cards a year ago!
Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, I use clear Loctite household silicone to make my shaker boxes. I just pool my "shakers" in the middle till the silicone sets ...not long. You can make the box as deep as you want.
go to a glass shop- batt your eyes and smile nice as you tell them what you need- I got a hug roll( Im talking enough for 5 years) for $30- My MIL and SIL have split it- that was 2 years ago and we all have lots left.

The same thing happens to me.
This helps:
BEFORE you peel off the paper backing on the foam tape, LIGHTLY dust the sides with talc or baby powder or even cornstarch. I use a cheapo paint brush. Make sure not to use a lot, just a tad works, just enough to take the "sticky" off the sides. Tap off the excess, then the beads won't stick to the sides.

Save the foam you cut from around your stamps. Pull the rubber piece off the foam and peel the paper off the sticky side. This works great and the price is right.
Foam Tape from Last Dollar Designs/Stampinktons a HUGE deal!!
I use the foam tape from Last Dollar Designs/Stampinktons Too! It is an awesome price and it does last forever. They have 2 sizes of foam tape and both work great for shaker cards. The thinner foam tape is great for popping things up or layering. I noticed they sell sticky tape on rolls of 36yards for only $8 - which is also a Huge value!

I understand how the square shaker box card seems to work but I have seen some really beautiful circle shaker box cards. How do you go about making a circle shaker box? Do you make a circle shape with the tape? Semms like this would be really time consuming??? I appreciate any and all help with this. God Bless. Sandra
Close To My Heart makes 3-D Foam that has adhesive on both sides. This is what I use when I make my shaker cards. In the package you get 3-D Foam Squares, strips, & Minis (which are little bitty squares.) The strips are what I use. They are super sticky and work great.

I made a shaker box using a snow globe shape -- with artificial snow in the box. Actually the box part was square -- I just cut out the globe part of the stamp to reveal the second stamped globe underneath. (Does that make any sense at all?)
I went through the SU catalog accessories pages and didn't see double sided foam tape. So I suppose art and hardware departments or some of the on-line sites may be best. I am dying to make a shaker card and just may have to get some supplies at Walmart soon. Or maybe the dollar spot at Target has confetti and little beads that can be used for shaker cards.

Think notches! You snip part-way through to make the straight tape more flexible (wish I was explaining this better - do you sew?) then put the un-cut edge inside to make a solid wall and prevent your beads from escaping.
I buy large rolls of tape at the office supply - but will check wallyworld to see if they are cheaper!

I haven't tried this, but I've seen a tutorial where instead of foam tape, they used Fun Foam. You can buy the thicker kind, cut your frame with an Xacto knife - any shape! - and I would imagine you could run it thru a die-cut machine as well; run it thru a xyron on both sides for the sticky and you should be good to go.
I think you can even buy the thicker Fun Foam with adhesive already on one side. It's been a while since I visited that aisle. It always makes me spend money I don't plan to spend on things I don't need until I see them there . . . calling to me . . .
