I'm using the SU stamp set "Around the Block" and trying to ink the "G is for Genuine". I'm using a brand new Tuxedo Black Memento dew drop (and I also tried some SU stamp pads), and I can't seem to get the solid parts of the G or or the background of Genuine to be completely inked. When I stamp, it looks mottled, and I can see paper show through.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I usually use just outline stamps. Thanks for any input Lisa
Lisa, stamp images have silicon on them initially to help them release from their molds. Try sanding the surface lightly with a sanding block or the fine side of an emery board. Clean your stamp and then try inking again. HTH. - Kathy

Here is what I do:
1. Rub an eraser on the stamp to help remove any residue and then clean well.
2. If there is still an issue, I then lightly sand.
3. If there is still an issue, I coat the stamp in clear versamark and then the colored ink before stamping. The versamark helps the colored ink stick consistently.
For stamps with larger areas that need ink, I put my stamp on the table rubber side up, and then apply the ink with the pad. Seems to work better for me that way. If it looks like an area needs more coverage, use the corner of your pad to apply more ink to it.

The kind of cardstock you use is also important with those types of stamps. I normally use the Georgia-Pacific cardstock, but ALWAYS use SU Whisper White if I need solid coverage.

Excellent point! I just discovered this difference as well.
I'm a pink eraser fan. I've always had excellent results and it's cheap 'cause they sell packages of pink erasers at Wal-Mart for about $1. This also works for your older stamps that appear to be drying out. One of my favorite Christmas sets is the retired Silhouette set which was not accepting ink well at all so I erased the surface and voile - just like new! I do like the suggestion above to use VersaMark.
