OH MY, HOW FABULOUS!
Just added "pick up candles" to my To Do list for tomorrow.
I'm playing with PhotoShop now. Where exactly is the "change to picture to black and white tool"?
MTIA,
~Gina
I did something similar, however I printed on regular computer paper, in color, and put the waxed paper over it, and it stuck just like the tissue paper. I love not having to use the tissue paper. Here's a link to my candle. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

Gina... you can change a photo to B&W a couple of ways...
The way I do it is....
Click Image > Adjustments > Channel Mixer...
In the window that pops up click the Monochrome box at the bottom. Then set Red to 40, Green to 30, and Blue to 30. Click OK.
Of course you can play with the setting until the photo looks the way you want it to.
Ok here is mine.... I took this photo over hte summer for my camp director that I work for and she had the photo made in to note cards... so I figured why not make her a candle with the same photograph. I think when she receives it she's gonna be amazed. I also figure by showing her how cool they look she'll let me teach the girls at camp how to do it also! I love this idea and the possibilities are totaly endless!!! I wish I had some awesome current photo's of my family to put on. For now I'm doing some of my photographs... that I have taken... the next one I'm making is with the statue of liberty as soon as I get more candles. Thanks for sharing this idea... tot he person who started this thread!!!
Hi does anybody have the problem were the candle winds up bump I am not sure if it not holding the wax paper tight enough or if I am doing something else wrong Thanks Gloria
I had one turn out a little wavy on one side. I was holding the wax paper tight and uneven. Just make sure it is wrapped around the candle nice and flat... you don't have to hold it tight.
I've also tried putting a straight pin at each end to hold the waxed paper so you don't have to spend all your energy holding and turning the paper. I lay the candle down and turn it slowly as I heat the waxed paper.

Wow Wow Wow. Your candles are so beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing the technique. I really want to try these and only wish I had more time before Christmas. Thanks!!!!!
These are fabulous. I used tissue and stamping on some small ones I did for work and they were alright for a first try . They appreciated the fact they were hand made and not store bought. Then I got really crazy.
I printed my 5 main animals pictures on vellum (in sepia tones) and put Merry Christmas from your Gleason grand-kids and then used the wax paper technique to adhere is to a 4 wick candle and gave it to my dad and Step mom. I then took a picture of their dog and made a smaller candle that said Merry Christmas mom and Dad - love Sheena.
Oh wait - that wasn't enough I had my neice and 2 nephews over Xmas eve so their mom and dad could wrap presents and asked what they had for their mom and dad. They didn't really have anything so I plopped them down in front of some of my Xmas decorations - used my digital camera snapped a couple pictures and Wal-la beautiful color candle phots.
If I can pry them out of their hands I will try to take pictures and post them . Should have done it before I wrapped them Silly me.

Thanks for the great idea
I was wondering if vellum would work. Did you use the thinner paper vellum or the cardstock vellum?
THANK YOU so much for posting this idea and simple instructions. I too created some last minute unplanned gifts for the grandmas and aunt. Let me tell you - they absolutely LOVED them! Very popular item! And right up my alley - QUICK'N'EASY!!!
Gina... I got my candles at the dollar store and they are 4" tall. They measure about 9½" around. HTH! I would think yours would work fine. Just be sure you size your photo appropriately and trin it so that no tissue paper sticks out over the edge anywhere.
Here's the candle we made to give to the two grandmas. They loved them!

OK well I have never tried to attach a picture here on SCS but I will give it a try. Here are two of the candles I did using the vellum. Not sure whether this was cardstock vellum or not - I got a 50 sheet pack of 8 1/2 x 11 of vellum at Ben Franklin and that is what I used. The small candle was color and the Big candle I did the pictures in Sepia tones.
Those are adorable, Kitty! The vellum seems to have worked well too. Might be something to try for those of you who had trouble getting your printer to print on tissue paper.
Thanks for sharing.
