A wooden clothes pin works great! You can decorate it, personalize it or whatever you like

Ditto - I covered a magazine in foil (shiny side out), and attached it to a clipboard. Works great and you can do more than one at a time!

I use a very inexpensive reverse gripper tool that when you squeeze it, it opens and when you let go, it holds the paper. The opposite of tweezers. I just emboss, then use the "gripper" holding the heat tool and paper away from other paper and its done. Never had a moments problem doing it this way.

Default Ouch-burned fingers

As to what I use when embossing, a paintbrush works great (the pointed end of course, not the brush end). You know, one of those skinny, shaped kinda like a chopstick kind, like you get with kids paintbrush sets maybe?

Default Abby to the rescue!

I dont know if anyone suggested this - (I didnt read all the posts) but in one of my packages from my lovely DSS Abby, were a pair of small wooden tongs from the pampered chef! (I think they're for removing bagels from the toaster, or some other related ghastly task!) lol.. (I thought she was telling me to hit the kitchen :rolleyes, but thankfully she filled me in on their REAL use!! she says they work like a charm for embossing small pieces!! HTH..

Default don't laugh

I use this tool I found at good ole Wal MArt. I have no idea as to what it is called, and I think initially it had some use for holding cotton balls. ( becasue it came with teeny tiny cotton balls) It is about as long as a pencil and has some type of "roach clip" at the end for holding things. I use to use it for rubbing chalk, but it is too long for that, so I use it to hold cards when embossing and it works awesome. I bought it in the craft section, possibly the paint area, close to where they have the scrapbooking stuff.

Default Embossing withour fingers

Take some foil and fold it several times to make a makeshift boat to hold your piece of cardstock. This way it warms the entire piece of cardstock and your fingers are not even close.

Sorry, I just HAD to laugh when I read your post. I also have the same "roach clip" thingy. It is designed to use with chalks along with the tiny cotton balls but I can see how it would be perfect for the "ouch" factor while heat embossing. <still giggling>

my tweezers are about 7" long. You can get them at craft shows. Probably craft stores by now. I've had them for years. They are REALLY pointed on the end. LOVE them.
